My William Hill review consisted of more than six weeks of navigating the app, placing wagers, testing features, and evaluating things like live streaming, customer service and payments. Background and reputation: Is William Hill legit?

William Hill was founded in 1934 by the namesake, who started taking backdoor bets before becoming one of the UK’s most reputable legal bookies. The platform is licensed by the Gambling Commission. It is also licensed by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner and the Malta Gaming Authority.

William Hill has changed ownership multiple times over the last five decades, most recently being acquired by 888 Holdings in 2022 for £1.95 billion, and now operates under Evoke plc. If there’s one area where the bookmaker is no. 1, it’s security. They employ 256-bit SSL encryption, 2FA, and are registered with IBAS.

The bookmaker was ordered to pay a record £19.2 million fine by the UKGC in 2023 for KYC issues. In fact, the Gambling Commission seriously considered suspending William Hill’s licence before the bookmaker acknowledged its role in the failures and moved quickly to address them.

Reward Hub: Personalised price boosts and free bets

William Hill does loyalty rewards a bit differently than most bookmakers. Instead of static promotions offered to every player, the William Hill Reward Hub serves up personalised rewards based on your betting activity. Think free bets, profit boosts, and price enhancements that rotate on a rolling basis and are suited for the markets and teams you wager on.

Acca Club: Stake £20 or more on accas, get a £5 free bet every week

Acca Club gives customers a £5 free bet when they stake a cumulative total of £20 or more in cash on accumulator bets within a single week (Monday 00:01 to Sunday 23:59). Each acca must have 3 or more selections (trebles and up) with combined minimum odds of 3/1 (4.0) or greater. The £5 free bet is credited to your account the following Monday by 13:00.

The Acca Club promotion can be used every week.

Acca Boost: Up to 200% boost on football accas

William Hill’s Acca Boost offers players boosted winnings on football accas of up to 200% (each leg added increases the boost). A 2-leg acca is boosted 3%, a 3-leg acca is boosted 4%, a 5-fold acca is boosted 7.5%, a 10-fold acca is boosted 30%, all the way up to 20-fold+ accas, which are boosted 200%. Selections must be from qualifying markets, including both teams to score, 90-minute result, and over/under goals.

Each individual leg must have a minimum odds of 1/5 (1.2). The maximum win from an Acca Boost is £10,000.

Acca Freedom: Boost or insure an accumulator daily

Acca Freedom gives every existing customer a daily acca token. The token can be applied to an accumulator in your bet slip to either boost your potential payout or insure your stake against a losing leg (only one can be chosen each day).

If you choose to boost your acca bet with the token, it must have a minimum of 3 legs and the maximum stake is £20. On the other hand, the acca insurance option can only be applied to an accumulator consisting of 5 legs or more (each selection must have minimum odds of 1/5). If one leg loses and all others hit, you get a free bet equal to your losing stake up to £20.

Impact Sub: Rollover your player bet to a substitute

Impact Sub is similar to bet365’s popular Sub On Play On feature. If a player you’ve backed is substituted before the end of 90 minutes, your bet automatically transfers to the substitute at the original price. The coverage extends to bet builders, accumulators, and singles across player stat markets in most top football leagues, including the Premier League, EFL and Champions League.

Price boosts and specials: Increase your payouts

William Hill runs daily odds enhancements across football, horse racing, darts and other sports. Standard price boosts at the bookmaker typically increase the payout by 10-15% (£20 maximum stake). Outside of standard boosts, bettors can get:

• Epic Boosts: Increases your payout on selected football markets by 25-100%. Bettors typically receive one Epic Boost token per week per sports/market. It only applies to Singles bets and the maximum stake is £5.
• Bet Builder Winnings Boosts: Adds 25-50% to winning Bet Builders of three or more selections at minimum odds of 3/1. Bet Builder boosts are capped at £20 per stake and available once daily.

Best Odds Guaranteed: Get the best horse racing odds daily

William Hill offers BOG on UK and Irish horse racing from 10 am on raceday. Take an early price and if the starting price ends up higher, William Hill automatically settles your bet at the bigger odds. The daily cap on additional BOG winnings is £25,000.

Extra Places: Expanded payout zone for each-way bets

William Hill runs extra places on selected horse races daily, giving each-way bettors more chances to land a return. Qualifying races with a sufficient number of runners have enhanced place terms applied at 1/5 odds, with the number of paid places occasionally doubled on the biggest festival contests like Cheltenham or the Grand National.

The Extra Places icon appears on relevant races throughout the site.

Non-Runner Money Back: Get a free bet if your horse is a scratch

On selected ante-post and race-day markets, William Hill offers your stake back as a free bet if your selection is declared a non-runner. Applicable races are flagged with an “NRMB” tag. This is particularly useful around the major festivals, such as Cheltenham, Aintree and Ascot, where there are many withdrawals in the weeks beforehand.

Bonus Drop: Free-to-play casino game offering prizes

Bonus Drop is a free daily game giving existing customers a chance to win free spins, casino credits, cash, or a free bet. Players drop a disc down a pegboard, and it can lead to one of three spots: Win, No-Win, or Retry. Prizes are awarded randomly, and Friday prizes can be multiplied depending on how many times you’ve played Bonus Drop throughout the week.

Play three days a week, your prize is doubled if you win. Play all six days (Saturday to Thursday from 8 am), and your prize triples if you win.

Greyhound Trap Challenge Money Back: Get cash back if you don’t have a winner

Available on every Combined Trap Challenge race, William Hill refunds punters’ bets as cash if their selected trap doesn’t win a race across an entire card. This is a very niche offer, but worth knowing about if you’re an avid greyhound betting fan. At least 20 races must take place for the offer to trigger. The refund is paid in cash rather than as a free bet.

2 Up early payout: Instant payout if your backed team goes up by 2 goals

If your selected team goes ahead by two goals at any point during a football match, William Hill pays out your winnings immediately, regardless of the final score. It applies to match-result wagers, including those in accumulator bets. However, the offer only applies to the dedicated “90 Minutes – 2 Up” market, not the standard 90-minute match odds.

The 2 Up promotion is available for prominent European football leagues like the Premier League, EFL, Bundesliga, La Liga and Champions League.

Sports and betting markets at William Hill

My William Hill review found a football specialist with a knack for horse racing. The bookmaker covers 30+ sports, and offers upwards of 400 markets for pre-match and in-play betting across top football leagues like EPL, La Liga, Champions League, Europa League, Serie A and the World Cup.

William Hill also does some niche sports really well, especially boxing and darts, where they offer numerous price boosts and up to 120 markets for Premier League and PDC darts fixtures. It is also among the top UK bookies for snooker, cricket, motorsports (especially F1) and greyhounds.

How is football betting at William Hill?

William Hill mostly does a solid job with football betting, ranking among our best football betting sites. It posts prices for 400+ football markets daily across top European leagues, and Opta data powers player bet settlement. That’s the same provider used by TNT Sports for in-broadcast stats and analysis.

William Hill also has several great features that will please football bettors, including partial and full cash-out across singles and accas, low-latency in-play betting and regular boosts for popular football markets. They also offer 2 Up early payouts, Impact Sub protection and Acca Boost specifically for football markets.

We love that their in-play football pages load xG data and Opta Points side by side with live markets.

William Hill horse racing betting

Horse racing has always been this bookmaker’s strongest specialty, and my William Hill review confirmed it’s still the case. They cover pretty much all UK and Irish racing, with BOG available daily from 10 am. When it comes to each-way terms, they trail only Betfred and bet365 for the most extra places paid, especially during the Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot, and the Grand National.

Live streams are available for 20+ UK/Irish racecourses via WHTV, with audio commentary through William Hill Racing Radio for meetings not on stream. Customers must have at least £1 staked on race bets to access live streams.

Along with a Pick Your Places feature that helps adjust each-way terms on UK and Irish races, the race card presentation uses Racing Post form, trainer and jockey stats, and going information.

William Hill niche markets and specials

While William Hill does a bang-up job with football betting and horse racing, in particular, the legacy bookmaker also pays special attention to the following niche markets:

Live streaming and in-play betting at William Hill

William Hill TV is also one of the platform’s main draws. WHTV streams over 140,000 live events each year, and covers 20+ UK and Irish horse racing and greyhound courses, alongside selected matches across football, NBA, tennis, cricket, and table tennis. To watch live streams, you must be logged in and have your account funded.

For live horse racing, a minimum £1 race bet is all you need to unlock live streams of top UK & Irish meets. WHTV also uses Opta live stats and has radio commentary for most races.

William Hill betting odds comparison

For an established betting brand, William Hill’s odds aren’t its strong suit. Bookmakers like bet365 regularly provide better margins for football betting, while Coral is sharper for horse racing.

Our testing found that William Hill averaged a 8.29% match-result margin across Premier League Matchday 38, which is among the higher figures we recorded. Our bet365 review found a match-result margin for those same fixtures of 5.54% and our Betfred review found a 6.00% margin.

For casual bettors, a margin gap like this won’t make much difference. But for punters chasing every bit of value, sharper-priced books like bet365 will leave more in your pocket over a season.

William Hill mobile app: User experience, live streaming & ratings

From my experience, William Hill delivers one of the better mobile apps available to UK bettors. The sports betting and casino are siloed in separate apps on iOS and Android: William Hill Sports Betting and William Hill Vegas Casino.

This split is meant to prevent the sports app from becoming bogged down by heavy casino graphics, resulting in a much faster and more optimised betting experience than the cluttered desktop site. That said, it’s sometimes nice to have both the casino and sportsbook housed under one roof, especially for bettors who often switch between both.

User interface & navigation

Once opening the William Hill app, it’s pretty simple to get where you need to go. The top of the app home screen features a handy search bar, profile icon (deposits, settings and account balance) and an icon for the Reward Hub, which houses your personalised promos. Featured promotions are also prominently displayed via a hero banner, directly under a scrollable sports category bar.

Below that is the main feed with high-profile matches or races features, along with current in-play betting opportunities. At the bottom is a nav bar that can quickly take you between in-play betting, your betslip and the homepage. It also functions smoothly.

• Betting slip: The app features a sticky, collapsible bet slip that pops up from the bottom of the screen only when a selection is tapped, so it doesn’t congest the rest of the app’s features.
• Reward Hub: Punters can open their personalised Reward Hub with a single tap on the crown icon located at the top right of the homepage to play Bonus Drop, access boosts, and see Acca Club progress.
• Search functionality: A persistent search bar sits at the top, allowing users to quickly find teams or players, as well as specific player markets.

William Hill app ratings

While both iOS and Android versions perform well, user reviews show that Apple users experience slightly fewer crashes during high-traffic betting windows (such as a Saturday Premier League kickoff) and fewer issues after updates.

William Hill offers separate sports and casino apps on the app stores. In my opinion, the sports app felt much less cluttered than the desktop site. The WHTV and radio streams are crisp and buffer-free.

Payments at William Hill: Deposits and withdrawals

William Hill offers 6+ payment methods, with some of the highest max deposits of up to £99,000. The minimums are low, £5 almost across the board, but most e-wallets do not qualify for the sign-up offer.

William Hill offers both traditional methods and e-wallets for deposits. I used Visa to deposit £100 after signing up. The funds cleared instantly.

Withdrawal methods

My Visa Fast Funds withdrawal cleared in less than four minutes. Other withdrawal methods at William Hill can take up to three days to arrive.

William Hill casino review

The William Hill casino offers over 700 games, including slots, live casino tables, jackpots, and instant games, powered by Playtech, Evolution Gaming, and NetEnt. Popular titles include Age of the Gods, Book of Dead, and Big Bass Splash, with most top slots offering RTPs between 95% and 97%.

The William Hill Vegas Casino app scores slightly lower, with App Store and Google Play ratings of 4.5/5 and 3.9/5, respectively. However, I used both with almost no issues. The only problem was that the casino app is much more cluttered than the sports betting app, which is typical.

Account verification at William Hill follows a standard KYC process. Many users are verified automatically during registration, but some will be asked to upload a passport, driving licence, or national ID for identity, and a bank statement, utility bill, or council tax letter for proof of address.
