Accounts were funded at all 10, and streaming and cashier conditions were tested logged in on 8 September.

Three meetings carry the betting this week, and all of them fall on the same weekend.
- Betfred St Leger Festival, Doncaster, Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September. The final Classic of the Flat season, and the 250th running of the St Leger Stakes on Saturday 12 September. Big fields across the four days make it the best week of the year for extra-place terms.
- Irish Champions Festival, Leopardstown, Saturday 12 September. The Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes is the feature. Small, high-class fields, so this is a card for price rather than place terms.
- Irish Champions Festival, the Curragh, Sunday 13 September. The Comer Group International Irish St Leger heads the card. Irish coverage varies more between bookmakers than UK coverage, so it is worth checking market counts before you bet.

In our price test, Coral was joint-best about the favourite at 7/2, and still only third on the full field, with an overround of 121.37%. That gap is the whole argument for measuring the overround: a bookmaker can lead on the horse everyone looks at and take it back down the card. On the Saturday card I checked, LuckyMate priced the most international races at 10+ Australian courses, 3 in the US, alongside meetings in Chile, Germany, Spain, Italy, South Korea, South Africa, Malaysia, Poland and Mexico. That’s much wider than just 5 UK courses and 2 Irish racetracks. Rated 6.9.
Based on my LuckyMate review, the racecards run thin. I counted 2 to 3 market tabs per race, including Win, Forecast and Tricast. A Top Finish market (Top 2, 3 and 5) is available on Australian and international cards only.
There is no Best Odds Guaranteed on any race I checked. Horse racing is also carved out of most promotions, including the welcome offer and Acca Boost.
LuckyMate is one of only a few bookmakers on this list where the stream played on a £0 balance, but it spends that goodwill oddly. No UK race streamed at all, every one of the few Irish races did, yet meetings in Mexico, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Germany and Poland were available for live streaming.
In the control race, the site returned a 21.38% betting margin, in line with the 21.37% trio of BOYLE Sports, Coral and Ladbrokes. It paid 3 places at 1/5 on an 11-runner card, the standard term. It took 5 taps to get from launch to a placed bet, the same as bet365 and Sky Bet.

Ladbrokes and Coral came back identical on six separate checks: bet slips, market counts, Lucky bet rules, non-runner rules, streaming access and now every price in the control race, runner for runner. Rated 6.6, behind Coral on Best Odds Guaranteed alone.
Like Coral, its Entain stablemate, the Ladbrokes betting site posted a 121.37% overround and 11 market tabs. Its £5 racing Bet Builder free bet sits with the Ladbrokes sign up offer.
What separates them is the gate: BOG requires Club Ladbrokes, and the stake caps bite harder than the £10,000 headline at £50 on a win single and £5 on most multiples.

Place terms display on every selection and vary by race. Its overround on the Newmarket control race was 123.90%, third highest here. BOG is published from 9am with a £10,000 daily cap, but goes to selected players at BetMGM’s discretion and no badge appeared logged out.

Midnite is the only one of the top horse racing bookmakers with no forecast and no tricast, on the racecard or the bet slip. It counted 7 market tabs at Haydock and 4 on the Irish card, and took a smaller margin than six rivals at 122.23%. Rated 5.7.
It does not offer Best Odds Guaranteed, and its own guide names the industry convention of a Lucky bet consolation and an all-winners bonus, then states that Midnite pays neither. Four taps get you from launch to a placed bet.

On our control race, the Sky Bet sportsbook took the biggest margin of the top horse racing bookmakers here, with an overround of 130.14%, more than 10 points behind bet365. Rated 5.4.
It was shorter on nearly every runner: 11/4 about the favourite where five rivals offered 7/2, and 22/1 about the outsider where three offered 33/1. It does pay 4 places instead of 3 on 8 runners or more, advertised on the racecard, so an each-way punter loses less to the margin than a win-only one.
BOG runs from 9am behind Sky Bet Club, no badge appeared even logged in, and its Tote Placepot was suspended. The Club terms sit with the Sky Bet sign up offer.

How we rate horse racing betting sites
We tested 11 bookmakers with funded accounts between 1 and 8 September 2026, and re-tested prices on 25 September.
Market counts used the 15:40 Haydock card and the 19:00 Down Royal card on 4 September. Best Odds Guaranteed, each-way terms, streaming and app were tested in the September window.
Six criteria are scored out of 10, weighted equally.
- Price. The overround across the full field on one control race, taken logged out in a single pass.
- Best Odds Guaranteed. Start time, Irish and foreign coverage, the cap, and any gate.
- Each-way and place terms. Places paid and the fraction on the control race.
- Streaming. Course groups covered and the access condition, tested logged in.
- Market depth. Visible market tabs on each control race, and which forecast and tricast markets exist.
- App. Taps from launch to a placed bet, and whether place terms display per selection.
How the price test works
Price comes from the overround rather than a sample of runners. We took every price in the 13:22 at Newmarket on Saturday 26 September, a Class 2 nursery handicap over 7f with 11 declared runners, logged out, in one pass on 25 September.
The overround is what all the prices in a race add up to. Divide 1 by each decimal price to get the chance that price implies, add up all 11 runners, and a perfectly fair market reads 100%. Anything above that is the margin, so the lower the figure the better the value.
Take a two-horse race priced at evens each way round. One divided by 2.0, twice, adds up to exactly 100%. Shorten both horses to 5/6 and the same sum reads 109%, which means the bookmaker keeps 9p in every pound staked whatever wins.
This replaces the two-runner comparison used in September, which could not see what a bookmaker does across a whole field. BOYLE Sports, Coral and Ladbrokes all returned 7/2 about the favourite, the joint-best price in the race, and all three still finished third on the full field because the margin comes back further down the card.

bet365 took the smallest margin at 119.91%, keeping just under 20p in the pound. BetVictor was next at 120.27%. Three bookmakers came back on identical prices, runner for runner, at 121.37%.
Sky Bet was the widest by a distance at 130.14%, more than 5 points clear of the next bookmaker and over 10 points behind bet365. It was shorter on nearly every runner: 11/4 about the favourite where five rivals offered 7/2, and 22/1 about the outsider where three offered 33/1.
Sky Bet does give something back. It paid 4 places instead of 3, advertised on the racecard, which only bet365 and Midnite matched. An each-way punter may still do better there, but on the win half of the bet it is the dearest the top bookies here.
Price and BOG are scored separately because a bookmaker can price short and hand some back through the concession, and a combined score hides that. TNT Sports earns commission from operators on this page and it plays no part in the order.

What is Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) and why does it matter?
Best Odds Guaranteed means that if you take an early price and the starting price comes back bigger, the bookmaker pays you at the bigger one.
It only ever works in your favour. Take 10/1 and the horse goes off at 6/1, you keep your 10/1. Take 10/1 and it drifts to 14/1, you get paid at 14/1.
Back a horse at 10/1 with £10 at 8am and it goes off at 14/1. At a BOG bookmaker you collect £150, against £110 without it, a £40 difference on a tenner. BOG is not one product, and a yes or no column tells you almost nothing.
Start times differ. Five of the 8 bookmakers offering it open at 8am and three at 9am. Some bookmakers gate it: Sky Bet restricts it to Sky Bet Club members who qualify in the previous week, Ladbrokes requires Club Ladbrokes, and BetMGM offers it to selected players at its discretion.

The caps are further apart than the start times. Four bookmakers stop at £10,000 a day, BOYLE Sports at £50,000, and bet365 and Betfred publish no cap. Ante-post is excluded at all 8.
Each-way betting and place terms explained
An each-way bet is two bets. Half your stake goes on the horse to win, half on it to finish in the places, so a £10 each-way bet costs £20. If it wins, both halves pay.
If it places but does not win, the win half loses and the place half pays at a fraction of the win odds. Back a 16/1 shot £10 each-way in a 16-runner handicap, so £20 total. Standard terms are 4 places at 1/4, so the place half settles at 4/1.
The horse finishes third and returns £50. You staked £20 and got £50 back on a horse that never won.
The fractions are the proportion of the win odds paid on the place half. On a 10/1 shot, 1/4 settles at 5/2 and 1/5 at 2/1, a 25% difference.
Which applies depends on the field size and whether the race is a handicap, and the step up to 4 places at 1/4 needs a handicap with 16 or more declared runners.

On the 16:35 at Ascot on 5 September, a handicap with 15 declared, the standard term was 3 places at 1/4. BetWright and BetVictor paid that, seven bookmakers paid 4 places at 1/5, and Sky Bet paid 5 at 1/5.
Not one of the betting sites here paid 4 places at 1/4. Every extra place was funded by cutting the fraction, so the boosted terms are worse on three of the four possible placings.
Work it through on a 12/1 shot, £10 each-way. At 3 places and 1/4, a horse placing third returns £40. At 4 places and 1/5, the same horse returns £34.
Terms also move race to race. On the Newmarket control race in September, an 11-runner handicap where the standard term is 3 places at 1/5, only bet365, Sky Bet and Midnite went to 4 places.
The boost only pays if your horse finishes exactly fourth, where standard terms return nothing. Places are set by the declared runners at the off, so a withdrawal can change the terms after you have bet, and Rule 4 deductions apply to the place half as well as the win half.
Horse racing bet types explained: Lucky 15s, accumulators and Tote betting
Racing has more bet types than any other sport, and most of them exist because punters wanted a way to back several horses without needing all of them to win. Here is what each one actually does.
What is a Lucky 15 (and Lucky 31/63)?
A Lucky 15 is 4 selections combined into 15 bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 fourfold. A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15.
A Lucky 31 is 5 selections across 31 bets, a Lucky 63 is 6 across 63. All bookies here offer all three, so availability is not a differentiator. What separates them is the bonus on top.
Betfred pays 3, 4 or 5 times the odds on a single winner, BOYLE Sports and BetWright pay double, and BetWright alone adds an all-winners bonus at 10, 15 and 20%.
Coral, Ladbrokes, Midnite and BetVictor pay nothing and say so. Two conditions catch people: at BOYLE Sports the bonus voids Best Odds Guaranteed, and at both BOYLE Sports and BetWright a single non-runner kills the bonus while the bet carries on.
How does ante-post betting work?
Ante-post means backing a horse before the final declarations, sometimes months out, for a bigger price than you will get on the day. The trade is unforgiving: in most cases, if your horse does not run you lose your stake.
The exception is non-runner no bet. Sky Bet runs it on named Cheltenham Festival races and states that if it is not flagged on the card it does not apply. No other bookmaker here publishes a standing non-runner no bet rule.
Ante-post is excluded from Best Odds Guaranteed at all 8 bookmakers offering it, and a withdrawal after declarations triggers Tattersalls Rule 4 deductions.
What is Tote betting and pool betting?
Tote betting is pari-mutuel. Every stake goes into a pool, the operator takes a cut, and what is left is divided between the winning tickets.
You do not know your price when you bet, so pools tend to beat fixed odds on long-priced runners in big fields and lose on short-priced favourites in small ones. The Placepot needs a placed horse in each of the first six races at a meeting.
Only 4 of the top bookmakers here offer pool betting: bet365, Betfred, Coral and Ladbrokes. Three more hold the licence without running a pool product, so a register check tells you nothing useful. Sky Bet had its Placepot suspended, and BOYLE Sports and Midnite hold the licence with no pool product on site.
How does the Betfair Exchange work for horse racing?
On an exchange you bet against other punters rather than a bookmaker, so you can lay a horse and win if it loses. There is no bookmaker margin in the price, so exchange odds are often bigger, and what replaces it is commission on your net winnings.
Back a horse at 12.0 on the Betfair Exchange with commission at 5%. If it wins, your £10 stake returns £120, of which £110 is profit, and £5.50 goes in commission.
Your effective price is 11.45. Against a bookmaker showing 11.0 the exchange is still ahead, but by less than the screen suggests. That margin is what the overround measures: on the Newmarket control race it ran from 119.91% to 130.14%, so between 20p and 30p in every pound was margin before a horse had run.
Exchange value arrives close to the off when liquidity is deepest, so the exchange rewards betting late and BOG rewards betting early.
