Betfair offers live streaming of 70,000+ events a year, free for registered customers, across football, tennis, and several other sports. To watch most horse races, you need a qualifying bet of just £1 (50p each-way) on the sportsbook.

The live betting feature adds more streaming options, in-play markets, and in-game stats that are otherwise hard to follow during a broadcast. If you’re watching a Champions League, Serie A, or Premier League match on TNT, Betfair’s in-play section covers over 200 markets per game.

Across two months of testing, I deposited £20 and bet mostly on football. It works well for TNT Sports viewers, especially those who want to move between the sportsbook and the betting exchange.

Pros
  • 30 days to use £50 welcome free bets, over 4x longer than the standard 7 days
  • Live streaming of 70k+ events across 6+ sports, including football, tennis, and racing
  • Bet Builder covers up to 25 selections, more than double most rivals
Cons
  • Live chat wait times over 10 minutes during busy hours
  • Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) no longer available
  • E-wallet deposits excluded from the welcome offer

Can Betfair be trusted? Licensing and track record of 25+ years

Betfair went live in 2000 and still has British heritage as the first large-scale online betting exchange in the UK. It was also the first betting brand to sponsor an English football club (Fulham in 2002). Listed on the LSE at £1.4 billion in 2010, the company merged with Paddy Power to form Paddy Power Betfair in 2016. Now under the Flutter Entertainment plc umbrella, sister sites include trusted brands like Paddy Power, Sky Bet, and FanDuel.

The platform holds four licences from the Great Britain Gambling Commission. The bookmaker side is run by PPB Counterparty Services Ltd under UKGC licence 39439, and is also regulated by the Malta Gaming Authority. Betfair works with IBAS for independent dispute resolution and GB Group for identity verification. For responsible gambling, links to GamStop, GamCare, BeGambleAware, and Gordon Moody all sit in the site footer.

The UKGC has taken action against the operator more than once. In May 2023, it was fined £490,000 for sending promotional messages to self-excluded customers. In December 2025, the group agreed to pay £2 million in a settlement when, among other issues, a player staked £86,000 over 16 days with no manual account check.

These are common bookmaker failings, but they reminded me to set deposit and loss limits from day one. The Trustpilot rating is a modest 3.4/5, and most of the one-star reviews centre on customer support’s unhelpful responses and long wait times, which I confirmed in my own tests.

How the Betfair exchange works: back vs lay

On the sportsbook, you bet against Betfair at fixed odds, just like any bookmaker. On the exchange, you bet against other customers, which is where back and lay come in. To back a selection is to support it, exactly like a normal bet: you win if it happens. To lay a selection is to play the bookmaker’s role and bet that it won’t happen.

Say you lay Liverpool at evens (1/1) for a £10 backer’s stake. If Liverpool fail to win, you keep that £10 (minus Betfair’s commission, usually 2-5%). If they win, you pay out £10 of liability. Exchange odds are often better than the sportsbook because there’s no built-in bookmaker margin, only the commission on net winnings.

Betfair welcome offer and promotions: start with £50

Betfair earns strong marks for the range and quality of its bonuses and promotions for both new and existing customers. Here’s what caught my eye:

What is the Betfair bet £10 get £50 sportsbook offer?

The Betfair sign up offer gives five £10 acca, multiples, and bet builder free bets when you deposit £10 and place a £10 qualifying bet. Only deposits via Pay by Bank, debit cards, and Apple Pay count toward the offer.

Betfair new customer welcome offer: bet £10 get £50 in free bets on any multi, any sport
The bet £10, get £50 welcome offer, with 30 days to use the free bets. Screenshot taken 5 April 2026.

When I claimed the bonus, I found it a little hard to spot markets that met the 1/1 minimum odds. I settled on Liverpool to beat Chelsea in their 9 May 2026 EPL fixture, and I lost. I still received five £10 free bets and had a generous 30 days to use them.

  • Maximum bonus: £50
  • Bonus type: Free bets
  • Minimum deposit: £10
  • Excluded payment methods: Most e-wallets (Skrill, Neteller, PayPal, Paysafecard)
  • Qualifying bet: £10+ at minimum odds of 1/1
  • Wagering requirements: Must use the five £10 free bets on accas, bet builders, or multiples
  • Time to use free bets: 30 days

Betfair rewards, free bets and other promos for existing customers

Betfair has a few existing customer offers that rarely change, flanked by a busy lineup of short-stay promos around events like the 2026 World Cup, Cheltenham Festival, and UCL.

Take the World Cup 2026 Golden Boot free bet offer. With Harry Kane at 13/2 to win the FIFA Golden Boot, my tenner on him gets me a £1 free bet whenever he scores during the tournament. If he does finish top goalscorer, that’s a £75 payout into my balance.

How do the odds at Betfair compare to other UK bookies?

I sampled the match result (1X2) market for the ten opening World Cup group-stage fixtures across Betfair, William Hill, and Ladbrokes. From 30 sample prices, I calculated the overround and then the bookmaker margins.

Across the ten World Cup matches, Betfair effectively tied with Ladbrokes for the lowest betting margin at 6.44% (against Ladbrokes’ 6.43%), well below William Hill’s 9.15%. In practice, that means competitive 1X2 prices, though Ladbrokes shades it on average.

Betfair app review: faster market search and better live video quality

The Betfair app is available for iOS and Android. I tested the Android version on a Samsung Galaxy S25. The download and installation took around 30 seconds.

The app loads in around two seconds on average, and searches return results in under two seconds. The interface is still a touch busier than you’d expect from a modern app, but it is far smoother to browse, and faster than the desktop site. Live streaming, Bet Builder, in-play markets, and cash out all carry over well from desktop.

Both versions rate highly across the app stores:

Customer support: use live chat or X

There are three main customer service options:

ChannelCustomer support hoursDetails
Live chat24/7Button at the bottom of Help Centre pages. Chatbot is available without logging in. 25 mins average response time.
X (Twitter)Not specified@BetfairCS
Help Centre24/7Answers more common questions on topics like reopen a closed account, withdrawal queries, how to verify your account, etc.

Betfair’s customer support is organised almost entirely around live chat and the Help Centre, which covers most topics across its FAQs. When I browsed the Help Centre, I found the search function less helpful than Googling the same question with the bookmaker’s name. All FAQs have mini-FAQs inside them, and most are illustrated with screenshots.

I contacted support several times over the test period. In my most recent test, I deliberately used live chat to ask about the maximum PayPal deposit limit. The chatbot told me all agents were busy on the first attempt.

On the second try, the chatbot took three minutes to connect me to a live agent, Naresh. He took another four minutes to respond, despite the chatbot’s promise of an under-two-minute wait, then answered the query three minutes later, around 10 minutes from start to finish. Across my tests, the average response time was 25 minutes.

Betfair payments: more e-wallets than most rivals, including Skrill, Neteller, and PayPal

The cashier supports 9+ deposit methods and 8+ withdrawal methods. There are no fees, with a £5 minimum deposit for cards and Apple Pay and £30 for e-wallets.

When I asked customer support about the maximum deposit, they confirmed there was no set limit, but all deposits are ultimately subject to your payment provider’s limits.

Deposit methods: use Visa debit to qualify for the welcome offer and faster withdrawals

I made my first deposit of £20 on 4 April 2026 via Visa debit card, and the process was straightforward:

  1. Tapped “Deposit” under the Profile menu
  2. Clicked “Pay by Card” to enter my Visa debit details
  3. With my card added, I entered £20 as the deposit amount
  4. Finally, pressed “Deposit” to submit the request

In-play betting and live streaming: 70k+ events across 6+ sports

In-play betting here is built to work with the TNT Sports broadcast schedule. There are 200+ football in-play markets per fixture, including in preseason and international friendlies, all supported by Opta-powered live stats.

Betfair in-play betting on Indonesia v Oman friendly international
In-play markets on an Indonesia v Oman friendly, with Opta-powered live stats. Screenshot taken 20 May 2026.

The Live Video service covers 70,000+ events per year across 6+ sports, and for most sports, it’s free of charge. That includes select football, cricket, tennis, esports, snooker, and basketball (NBA) games. UK customers can stream Serie A, MLS, the Danish Superliga, and the Belgian Pro League, all free with a registered account.

For racing, a qualifying bet is all it takes. On the sportsbook, a £1 single bet qualifies you for UK and Irish horse racing; on the exchange, a £2 minimum matched bet is required.

Compared with our Betfred review, the streaming coverage here is bigger and better organised, with a Live Video tab listing every streamable event and linking directly to betting markets. I found the match dashboard a great place to follow score updates and stats for matches not currently on the TNT Sports channels.

How does Betfair’s cash out work?

Full and partial cash out are available across the sportsbook and betting exchange, with auto cash out on the exchange only. Enhanced specials and ante-post race bets are not eligible.

All pre-match and in-play bets still open for cashing out sit under the My Bets tab in the bottom navigation on the mobile site and app. On desktop, My Bets is found under the My Account icon.

Cash out is available on:

  • Singles, accas, bet builders, and multiples
  • Football, tennis, cricket, snooker, horse racing, greyhounds, ice hockey, basketball, and golf
  • Pre-match, in-play, and between selections

Betfair sportsbook & markets: bet on 29+ sports

I found a sportsbook covering 29+ sports, with particular strength in football, tennis, and horse racing. Popular leagues and events include:

  • The EPL, Bundesliga, MLS, Serie A, and Ligue 1 for football
  • The WTA, ATP, Davis Cup, and Grand Slams for tennis
  • NBA, WNBA, and Euroleague for basketball
  • A full cast of UK/Irish, UAE, US, Australian, and RSA racing fixtures

Football betting: the World Cup, EPL, Champions League and more

Football is Betfair’s deepest sport. Top-flight leagues such as the EPL, Bundesliga, and La Liga offer 200+ markets per match, and the World Cup and finals go upwards of 500.

Four things stand out for football bettors:

  • Live streaming with in-play betting – Many pre-match football markets are brought in-play, and live streaming is available on Serie A, MLS, and the Danish Superliga, among other leagues, free of charge.
  • Opta integration – Betfair uses Opta data for player stats markets, the same source TNT Sports uses for its match analysis and stats pages.
  • Bigger, better Bet Builder – You can add up to 25 selections, more than double the limit at bet365 (12), William Hill (10), and NetBet (6). Partial and full cash out is available on most bet builder selections.
  • 90 Minute Guarantee – A full market in place of the traditional 2-Up early payout you’d find at William Hill, bet365, or Paddy Power. Bets on the Match Odds 90 market pay out if your selection is winning at exactly 90:00, whatever happens in stoppage time.

In my test, the 90 Minute Guarantee odds for the England vs Croatia World Cup fixture were slightly lower than regular Match Odds, but still worth it to remove last-minute upsets.

Horse racing: watch live & bet on UK, Irish, UAE, AU, and RSA races

I found massive horse racing coverage, including all UK and Irish races, from Aintree, Brighton, and Fakenham to Wincanton, Yarmouth, and York. Betfair also covers UAE, Australian, US, and South African meetings.

Live streaming is available across all of these. For UK, Irish, and Australian racing on the Sportsbook, a minimum £1 stake (or 50p each-way) qualifies you for that race’s stream. US and South African racing just requires a funded account with no minimum bet.

The Timeform-integrated racecards add useful insights, including expert tips on trainers, jockeys, and form for all UK and Irish races. Unfortunately, the site no longer offers Best Odds Guaranteed. Expect money back if 2nd or 3rd offers.

Extra Place races are available at mostly 1/4 each-way terms during Cheltenham, the Grand National, and even regular cards. For instance, they pay five places instead of four at 1/4 odds in 20.30 Leopardstown races with a field of 16+ runners.

Niche markets and specials: politics and novelty options outside top sports

Esports markets cover FIFA esports, CS2, League of Legends, Dota 2, and Call of Duty, with in-play streaming on most events. Cricket covers Test matches, ODIs, and T20 internationals, including the IPL and Big Bash.

Politics is well covered too, with a full next UK Prime Minister market live. When I checked, Andy Burnham led at 4/9 alongside nine other candidates.

How I tested Betfair

I tested Betfair from 4 April to 3 June 2026 using a real account, starting with a £20 Visa deposit. I’m a sports betting writer with more than eight years of experience reviewing UK bookmakers.

Over the test period, I placed bets across football, horse racing, and tennis on both the desktop site and the Android app (Samsung Galaxy S25, app version 43896). Features I tested include the Bet Builder, Safe Sub, 90 Minute Guarantee, live streaming, cash out, the exchange, and the full payment and withdrawal process.

I assessed Betfair across nine criteria: odds quality, market range, in-play features, live streaming, app performance, promotions, payments, customer support, and responsible gambling tools.

Updated monthly, or sooner if offers change. We receive a commission for referrals via our links, which does not influence our ratings.

Betfair review: FAQs

Yes, Betfair is a legal and safe bookmaker that has been the leading betting exchange in the UK for the past 25+ years. It is regulated under UKGC licence accounts 39439, 39435, 39561, and 39426, and the operator is affiliated with IBAS for resolving disputes. It is also a sister betting site to reputable brands like Paddy Power and FanDuel under Flutter Entertainment plc.

The sportsbook works like a traditional bookmaker: you bet against Betfair at fixed odds. The exchange lets you bet against other customers, backing or laying a selection, often at better odds, with Betfair taking a commission on your net winnings.

Betfair covers 29+ sports across pre-match, bet builder, and in-play betting. You can also live stream most UK and Irish horse racing and select football, tennis, cricket, and basketball matches while betting in-play.

Betfair does not offer live streaming of the FIFA World Cup 2026, but all 104 matches are free to air in the UK on ITV and the BBC. UK customers can still follow live scores and bet in-play on the World Cup on Betfair’s sportsbook and exchange throughout the tournament.

Visa (with the Fast Funds feature) is the quickest way to get your winnings out. In my test, a £23 Visa withdrawal cleared into my account in under 15 minutes.

The 90 Minute Guarantee is a special football match odds market where winning bets are paid out if your selection is winning at exactly 90:00. Your bet wins no matter the final result after stoppage time.
