Tottenham Hotspur host Coventry City on Monday 19 October (kick-off 20:00 BST) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of a first Premier League win, having drawn three and lost three of their opening six games to sit bottom of the table.

Coventry arrive on the back of consecutive wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, and a third would stretch their lead over Tottenham to six points.

Tottenham have scored three goals in six league games, one each for Jan Paul van Hecke, Dominic Solanke and Conor Gallagher, and only once have they scored more than a single goal in a match.

That is not down to a lack of shots, with 83 taken, but fewer than one in 27 of them have found the net, so the shortfall is in the finishing rather than the creation.

Spurs have not found relief at home either, with a goalless draw against Everton and defeats by Newcastle United and Aston Villa producing two goals for and five against.

Even the most recent result carried a sting, as Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off at Old Trafford after coming on as a substitute, and it took Solanke's stoppage-time header to salvage a 1-1 draw with 10 men.

Coventry lost each of their first four league games, including a 5-0 home defeat by Brighton, before winning at Nottingham Forest and then shocking the division by hammering Newcastle United 4-1 at home.

That victory brought goals for Jack Rudoni, Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni, and it accounted for four of the five Coventry have scored in the league all season.

Away from home the picture has been bleaker, with a single goal across three trips, the 1-0 win at Forest coming after defeats at Arsenal and Manchester City in which they failed to score.

Frank Lampard has used a back four at times, but a return to three centre-backs is expected here, with Mfuni joining Bobby Thomas and Ethan Pinnock in the visiting defence, while Ephron Mason-Clark and Rudoni play behind striker Taiwo Awoniyi up top.

The wide areas are where the two shapes meet most directly, with Coventry's wing-backs Milan van Ewijk and Jay Dasilva facing Mohammed Kudus and Omar Marmoush, who will be supported by Archie Gray and Destiny Udogie.

At the other end of the pitch, Coventry have conceded 11 times in six league games, five of them against Brighton, and their only clean sheet of the season came at Forest.

Dejan Kulusevski is in the final phase of his recovery from a knee injury that has kept him out since May 2025, but he is not ready to start yet.

Andrew Robertson is a doubt and is not in the expected line-up, with Destiny Udogie retaining the left-back spot, while Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Mykhailo Mudryk remain sidelined due to long-term injuries.

Savio is also out, so Omar Marmoush is expected on the left of the attacking three, and Micky van de Ven returns from a wrist problem to replace Marcos Senesi in the backline.

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi returns after serving a three-match suspension and is expected to lead the line, supported in attack by Rudoni and Mason-Clark.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden is a doubt as he comes back from the hamstring problem that kept him out at the start of the season, although he has been training with the squad.

Joel Latibeaudiere is also available after recovering from a knock, which gives Lampard extra cover in defence.

The clubs have met 92 times in all competitions, with Tottenham winning 44, Coventry 26 and 22 finishing level.

The last league meeting between these sides came all the way back in March, 2001, when Tottenham won 3-0 at home, while Coventry's most recent league win in the fixture came on October 14, 2000, when they ran out 2-1 victors.

Tottenham won each of the last five meetings by an aggregate of 13-1, but the latest was in September 2024, which is too long ago to carry weight in judging this match.

Tottenham vs Coventry prediction and betting tips

Top Tip
Under 2.5 goals
Odds (69/50) 2.38 at bet365
Four of Tottenham's six league games have finished with two goals or fewer, and the three league matches Coventry have played away from home have produced five goals between them. With Tottenham struggling in front of goal and Coventry's output thin on their travels, a third goal looks hard to find.
Value Bet
Dominic Solanke to score anytime
Odds (6/5) 2.2 at bet365
Solanke scored Tottenham's stoppage-time equaliser at Old Trafford, while Coventry have conceded 11 times in six league games. As the lone striker in the expected 4-2-3-1, he should be first in line for whatever chances Tottenham create, and a defence leaking goals this regularly makes a return at 6/5 reasonable.
Longshot
Tottenham to win 2-0 (correct score)
Odds (8/1) 9.0 at bet365
Coventry failed to score in both of their league defeats away from home, and Tottenham have kept two clean sheets in six. A two-goal win would still be a step up for a side that has scored more than once in only one league game, though the 83 shots they have taken suggest the chances will keep arriving.
Free Choice
Both teams to score – No
Odds (21/20) 2.05 at bet365
Spurs and the Sky Blues have each scored in only two of their six league games, and just one of Coventry's top-flight matches has featured goals at both ends. With Tottenham and Coventry blanking so often, a clean sheet for at least one of them is a realistic outcome.

Odds correct as of Saturday, 17 October 2026, 14:04 BST.

Our prediction
Tottenham 2-0 Coventry
Tottenham are without Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Savio but expect to have Micky van de Ven back in defence, while Coventry have scored once in three away league games. The gap in quality between the squads could be enough for a first win of the season, even if the Londoners' finishing remains a concern.
  • Dominic Solanke to score first, as the lone striker who headed the equaliser at Old Trafford.
  • Conor Gallagher to add the second from the central attacking role, having scored two in his last three games across all competitions.
