Anfield, Liverpool
Sunday 1 November, 4:30pm
Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday at 4:30pm, with the visitors looking to cement their place as favourites for the Premier League title, though they face an immense challenge at an unforgiving stadium.
The fifth-placed hosts have not lost a Premier League game at Anfield against the Gunners since September 2012, and a loss for the second-placed visitors would reduce their lead over their opponents to just three points.
Liverpool vs Arsenal preview and form guide
Andoni Iraola has overseen a fruitful period at Liverpool, with the head coach guiding the team to five consecutive wins, the latest of which was a win on penalties against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
The club have kept four clean sheets in their last six league fixtures, and their only loss this season in any competition came against Manchester City at Anfield in early October, though the Citizens only managed to score after Ryan Gravenberch had been sent off.
While Ronald Araujo has primarily played as a centre-back during his career, he has been exceptional from a defensive perspective as a right-back for the Merseysiders, and he will be needed this weekend.
Liverpool have not been flawless at home this term given they have won just once at Anfield in the league, though that triumph came against high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion on 25 October, and they have won each of their last three at the stadium in all competitions.
It will delight Iraola that striker Alexander Isak has already scored six goals in just seven Premier League appearances, but even more pleasing will be the form of Florian Wirtz, who has one goal and two assists in his past four starts for the Reds.
Arsenal boast the best defence in the Premier League having only conceded five goals in eight games, and their defensive foundation has been remarkable considering they have been without William Saliba all campaign.
However, it should be noted that they did concede three times away to Brighton in September, and their uncharacteristic frailties were exposed after the Seagulls pressed aggressively.
At the other end of the pitch, there are serious attacking concerns given the only player to score more than two league goals this season is Bukayo Saka, who is absent due to injury.
The Gunners were also eliminated from the EFL Cup on Tuesday, when they lost on penalties against Fleetwood Town, with the likes of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres failing to impress.
Mikel Arteta will not be particularly bothered by outside criticism of his team given he is a Premier League champion, and after grinding out a first-placed finish last term, there is no reason to think he cannot do so again.
Team news and probable lineups for Liverpool vs Arsenal
Liverpool team news
Liverpool know they will be without Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni due to long-term injuries, while Jeremie Frimpong is scheduled to return after the international break.
The biggest selection dilemma for Iraola is in midfield given there is a chance that Dominik Szoboszlai could feature, though it remains to be seen how ready he would be to start after a hamstring issue.
Liverpool could trust Gravenberch next to stalwart Alexis Mac Allister, but the Dutchman has performed poorly for much of the campaign, so there may be an opportunity for Trey Nyoni to come into the lineup.
Attacker Victor Munoz could also be in line for an appearance, though he would almost certainly have come on from the bench regardless, given he has been dealing with a knee injury in recent weeks, with Bradley Barcola and Cody Gakpo likely to be preferred on Sunday.
Liverpool probable lineup vs Arsenal
Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Nyoni, Mac Allister; Barcola, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak

Arsenal team news
Arteta has not confirmed which players will be fit, but Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice and Christos Tzolis all trained normally after knocks, though there are more concerns about the involvement of winger Noni Madueke.
His potential absence would be a blow given Saka is set for a considerable period on the sidelines due to a quad injury, as well as the three-match suspension Max Dowman must serve following his red card against Fleetwood.
Arteta may be forced to field a front three featuring Eberechi Eze and Tzolis either side of Havertz, though it would not be surprising if Gyokeres played a significant role on Sunday.
In defence, the selection of Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhaes as centre-backs is certain, while Jurrien Timber and Calafiori may be used as full-backs.
Arsenal probable lineup vs Liverpool
Raya; Timber, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Guimaraes; Tzolis, Odegaard, Eze; Havertz
Head-to-head record: Liverpool vs Arsenal
Arsenal's last Premier League win at Anfield came on 2 September 2012, with Arteta himself in the starting lineup, but his side have since failed to win in 13 league attempts at the ground, losing eight times.
Three of those draws came in their last four league visits, though Arsenal were beaten 1-0 thanks to a Szoboszlai free kick in the corresponding fixture last season in August 2025.
Liverpool are in fact unbeaten in their four most recent meetings with the Londoners, drawing twice at the Emirates Stadium and once at Anfield.
As for Iraola, he has won three of his past four encounters with Arteta, with all of those games coming when he was in charge of Bournemouth, and his outstanding record against the Arsenal boss will no doubt boost Liverpool fans' optimism.
