Saturday, October 31, 5:30pm UK time
Tottenham Hotspur head into Saturday's meeting with Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the back of back-to-back Premier League wins. Victories over Coventry City and Chelsea have lifted Roberto De Zerbi's side from the lower reaches of the table in the earlier rounds up to 14th, and a third straight win would extend their best run of the season so far.
Pierre Sage's side arrive in the opposite position, having lost three of their last five Premier League matches and conceded 19 goals in eight league games, the worst defensive record in the division. Four months into his first job in English football, his side need a response rather than more evidence of their early-season struggles.
Tottenham vs Crystal Palace form and preview
Tottenham were five Premier League games without a win and sat 18th by September 24, a run that ended in a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa and left De Zerbi facing real scrutiny. The manager admitted afterwards that his side could not afford to keep losing games in that manner, and club chief executive Vinai Venkatesham backed him publicly through the pressure that followed.
Since then, Spurs have won back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time this season, beating Coventry City 3-1 and Chelsea 2-0 off the back of a 1-1 draw at Manchester United. That draw came at a cost: Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for violent conduct and will serve the third and final match of his suspension against Palace.
James Maddison picked up a new groin problem in the win over Chelsea and needs to be assessed before kickoff, adding to a list of absentees that already includes four first-team attackers. Savio, Wilson Odobert and Mykhaylo Mudryk are all expected to return in early November, just after this match, while Xavi Simons remains out until February 2027 with a cruciate injury.
Dominic Solanke's one goal and one assist in eight Premier League appearances remains the north London club's leading individual return this season, with four other players on a single goal each. That lack of a standout scorer has not stopped the recent upturn in results, built instead on a defence that kept a clean sheet against Chelsea and has conceded only once across the two wins combined.
Sage is four months into the job at Crystal Palace, having replaced the trophy-winning Oliver Glasner in June and lost full-back Daniel Munoz to Glasner's new club Nottingham Forest in the same transfer window. Deadline day brought further disruption when Ismaila Sarr attempted to force a move to Galatasaray before the transfer collapsed and he remained at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles have lost three of their last five Premier League matches, including a 5-0 defeat away to Brighton and a 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United in their most recent top-flight outing. Their defence has conceded 19 goals in eight Premier League games this season, the worst record in the division, and they have failed to score in three of their last four Premier League matches.
Axel Disasi is available again having served a three-match ban for a red card against Ipswich Town, returning to the side for the home defeat to Newcastle United. Dean Henderson looks set to return in goal after a full 90 minutes in the midweek EFL Cup win over Fulham, with Walter Benitez, who started the Newcastle match, pushed back to the bench, while Jean-Philippe Mateta, restricted to three appearances and 154 minutes in the Premier League this season by a hamstring injury, is in line to lead the line again.
Tyrick Mitchell, a left wing-back rather than an orthodox forward, is Crystal Palace's joint-leading Premier League scorer with two goals from eight appearances, an unusual distribution for a side still searching for control in the final third. Daichi Kamada's three assists in all competitions give Sage's side their clearest creative outlet heading into a match where they will need more than defensive resilience to avoid a third straight defeat.
Team news: Tottenham vs Crystal Palace
Tottenham Hotspur
Bentancur serves the final match of his suspension after his red card at Manchester United, while four attackers remain sidelined. Savio, Odobert and Mudryk are all targeting an early-November return, and Simons is not expected back until February 2027 because of a cruciate injury.
Maddison's new groin problem from the Chelsea win leaves him a doubt, and De Zerbi will also have to assess Destiny Udogie's knee and Tosin Adarabioyo's calf before settling on his side. Lucas Bergvall is expected to miss out as he continues his recovery from a separate issue.
Pedro Porro is expected to start at right-back ahead of Archie Gray, with the rest of De Zerbi's back four and midfield pairing looking settled on current form.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace
Kinsky; Porro, van Hecke, van de Ven, Robertson; Fernandes, Tonali; Kudus, Gallagher, Tel; Marmoush.
Crystal Palace
Henderson looks to have put his foot issue behind him after playing a full 90 minutes in the midweek EFL Cup win over Fulham, and the latest predicted lineup has him starting in goal ahead of Benitez, who deputised in the previous league match. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also a fitness concern with a calf issue, and Chadi Riad remains out long-term with a knee injury that is not expected to clear until June 2027.
Sarr is being managed carefully after an injury-affected month that also included deadline-day transfer speculation, while Jorgen Strand Larsen and Quinten Timber are further doubts for Sage to assess. Disasi is available throughout, having served his suspension before the home match against Newcastle United.
Mateta's rebuilt fitness, after just 154 minutes across three appearances in the Premier League this season, is less of a gamble than it looks: with his main competition for the central striker's role, Strand Larsen, still a doubt, Mateta heads into the weekend as a near-certain starter after featuring in the south London club's most recent predicted lineup.
Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur
Henderson; Richards, Disasi, Canvot; Khalaili, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell; McNeil, Pino; Mateta.
Head-to-head: Tottenham vs Crystal Palace
Tottenham have won 34 of the 63 meetings between these two clubs, against 14 wins for Crystal Palace and 15 draws, a record that heavily favours the home side overall.
The recent picture is less one-sided. The Eagles have won three of the last five meetings, including a 3-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in March 2026 and a 2-0 win at the same ground in May 2025.
Tottenham's only wins across that span came away at Selhurst Park in December 2025 and at home in March 2024, meaning the home side has lost more of these recent meetings than it has won despite the lopsided all-time record. The reverse fixture this season is already scheduled for January 23, 2027, at Selhurst Park.
