UK Championship snooker recap - Mark Selby beats Judd Trump 10-8 to win title

Judd Trump defends his UK Championship title in the best-of-19 frame final today in York against fellow Englishman Mark Selby. Selby is a two-time champion here, winning in 2012 and 2016. The two will be fighting for a £250,000 prize and the delight of lifting a Triple Crown trophy in front of the home crowd. They will return at 7pm GMT tonight for the second session at the Barbican.

TRUMP 3-7 SELBY (27-0)
Even if Judd gets on a roll, you'd still expect Mark to win from here, but a quick kill here and he'll start to wonder.
19:50
TRUMP 3-7 SELBY (18-0)
Now then: Judd rams in a dead straight diag, beautiful shot, hitting it so well he's not on a colour, so it's in behind the green; Mark comes off the side and into the pack. Oh, but he then plays a miserable safety, leaving a dolly to middle, so off goes The Ace again.
19:47
TRUMP 3-7 SELBY
Judd needed this frame, almost forsook it, then seized it once more. He must also win the next, and the next.
19:46
TRUMP 2-7 SELBY (68-32)
A poor safety from Mark allows Judd to lay a snooker; the escape leaves an opener, and this is 7-3.
19:43
TRUMP 2-7 SELBY (62-32)
A very nice black gets Mark in behind a red that goes across the table to right-centre, but can he get down to baulk to clear the final ball? He doesn't try, leaving himself a longun to the green bag but can he get to the potting angle? He cannot, playing safe, so the chase is on.
19:39
TRUMP 2-7 SELBY (62-8)
A sorely needed quick kill ... or not? Judd misses a cut-back black off its spot, and with 67 remaining, Mark has a chance for another steal! A dish here wold be an absolute killer, riddled with E coli and salmonella.

19:33
TRUMP 2-7 SELBY (24-0)
Judd needed a solid start and didn't make one. It'll take a massive turnaround for him to win from here and currently, neither he nor Mark are playing at a standard that could allow it to happen. But Selbz misses to left corner, leaving plenty of potable balls, and Judd quickly starts taking advantage. He daren't miss.
19:32
TRUMP 2-7 SELBY
Some chasing, then Judd fouls and concedes. He's in terrible trouble; Mark needs three to win, he needs eight.
19:23
TRUMP 2-6 SELBY (7-63)
A red with the rest then a blue to left corner ... stays out! That was frame-ball but Judd'll have to go some to snaffle the frame from here.
19:20
TRUMP 2-6 SELBY (7-39)
Mark accumulates. Contemporary him misses balls he shouldn't when in, but he looks seriously solid out there
19:16
TRUMP 2-6 SELBY (7-8)
Judd goes at one to left corner, doesn't get close, and follows through into the bag, opening balls at the same time. But he doesn't leave anything, somehow, so Mark plays a double as a shot to nothing... and it's there. A cut-back yellow comes next, taking him up the business end, and this is a chance to take control of this frame.
19:11
TRUMP 2-6 SELBY (7-0)
Clunk! Judd sends a gorgeous starter into left corner, adds a blue to the green bag ... then flicks a red getting on to the black; end of break. But when Mark gets close but not close enough to a starter, he has a shy at one to right corner ... and he's nowhere near.

AAAAAND OFF WE GO!

OUR BOYZ BAIZE
Rob Walker is such a character.
19:04
I CAN'T RECALL IF I WROTE IT OR NOT
But I fancied Mark at the outset – he was so good in winning the Champion of Champions and I didn't see anyone else hitting that level if he was at it again – which he is. It's so good to see him playing brilliantly, enjoying his snooker.
18:57
MARK AND JUDD
Are, according to discourse, two of our most easily classified players, Judd's a dasher and Mark's a grinder. The reality, though, is a long way from that: Judd's safety game is sensational and his competitive instinct bears comparison with anyone's; Mark's an amazing tactician, but he can pot and break-build with the best of them. They are both almost perfect, how well they do contingent on how they play on any given day.
18:44
EVENING ALL!
There's aren't many players I'd least want to trail by four frames going into the final session of a triple crown final than Mark Selby ... but there aren't many I'd deem more likely to catch him than Judd Trump. I'm looking forward to this...
A SHARP AFTERNOON FOR THE JESTER
Mark Selby ran to a fantastic four-frame lead at the UK Championship final against Judd Trump to end the first session at 6-2.
It was complete dominance out of the gates from the Jester as he took five straight frames from the start. Trump looked to be in good position as the first scorer, but the Jester nailed a three-ball plant to steal the opening frame.
He continued to be in fine form, and luck was firmly on his side as he made some remarkable pots and notched his fifth ton of the tournament with a 105 break.
Trump found some drive after the interval, and punished some uncharacteristic errors from Selby to give himself some breathing room.
The last frame of the session was tense, and an overcut black saw Trump lose his small lead to Selby, who jumped on the opportunity.
Trump needed two snookers to take the frame by a single point and was able to force a foul, but a mistake of his own saw him concede the eighth frame.
Trump will bid to defend his title tonight, while a win for Selby will see him reclaim the title after nine years.
We'll be back at 7PM tonight for the second session of the final, where we finish off the rest of the best-of-19 and celebrate the first Triple Crown winner of the season.

FATES SMILING DOWN ON SELBY

TRUMP 2-6 SELBY
Trump pots the green, but it decelerates and he loses any spin he wanted on the ball. He then goes for a snooker behind the respotted green, but he falls short of pace!
Trump concedes the frame after the foul and he will have a tough second session on his hands as Mark Selby goes four ahead.
