UK Championship snooker recap - Mark Selby beats Judd Trump 10-8 to win title

Mark bumps reds off black, but will need to break a group of four to win the frame at this visit ... and he does.

Judd leaves one with the rest to the yellow pocket, and Mark should take a chunk out of the frame with this visit, given his pre-existing lead. He could use a nice settler of a run.

Mark will be gratified that, though he's won three in a row, Judd still isn't playing that well. He knows he'll get more than enough chances to win this match – it's just a matter of taking enough of them, and that's entirely on him. Meantime, an unfortunate kiss means end of break and to the top rail.

Judd flows a beautiful starter into right corner, but then massively overcuts a green so plays safe. And a fiendishly difficult red-to-middle then offers a man without a pot in 45 minutes a simple starter; he takes it out, adds blue to corner, and a solid visit here would restate his dominance in this match.

Bring it on. Right on.

Mark looks displeased as Judd clears balls, the brown raising his ton. A 7-5 interval score looked unlikely at 7-2, and a 105 takes him to the break in good heart. I can't wait to see what happens next; see you in 15.

Judd secures the frame. Is this match maturing into a classic?

A poor positional shot a blue with the rest to the green bag, not an easy slide to middle ... but it's there, then another red which just about drops off the jaw. Currently, the balls are going for Judd.

A nice black, cut to right corner, drops dead weight, and this is more confident play from the champ, though the same shot only just about struggles in second time. Still, he's still at the table potting.

If Judd takes this frame as well, the match will feel different, and a dreadful safety from Mark offers hi man opportunity to score. A blue just about wriggles into middle, then a red to corner, and this is a chance, Selbz not having potted a ball in half an hour.

In how many other sports do players refuse to accept a refereeing call that benefits them? Mark Selby is such a mensch. But I wonder how he's feeling now, all the more so when Judd steers in another nice starter, adds a taxing green with the rest, and returns to the business end ... but lands on nowt.

Is Judd on the charge? Er, not exactly, but he's winning frames, and if he can seize the last of the mini-sesh, we really will have a ball-game on our hands.

Mark escapes but leaves a tempter and Judd cuts yellow to right corner; feels a long time ago Mark missed that easy red, which it was. The green goes down next, and this is another one to Judd.

Judd doesn't agree, saying he can get at the red without feathering the yellow that's blocking the way, but the ref stands by his call, which Fouldsy backs; Mark has a look and backs Judd, so puts him back. Ahahaha! Just what the ref wants to hear: you're wrong, now sort the same position. So he does, Judd goes off two cushions ... AND POTS IT! THIS GAME! Could that be a turning point? The frame isn't over, given the positions of the remaining balls, and sure enough he can't get on the yellow off the pink ... but there's a snooker there for the taking, and he lays it.

Mark lays a fiendish snooker, the white tight to the brown and near these the side, The blue close by and the red near the baulk rail. It's a brute with no obvious escape route, and it takes some replacing when he misses ... the again. Has he left a free ball? The ref takes out another red to check, determines he has, and this might be the frame.

Nealf still can't believe it, calling it a "one in thousand ... just can't believe he'd ever miss the ball." He doesn't miss, though, when snookered, going in-off but still leaving the final red safe. Will Judd attempt to tickle it into middle? Or double it into the opposite bag? He opts for the latter option, gets close ... and doesn't leave it. He does, though, offer the opportunity to play a telling safety, but Mark doesn't quuite maange it and this is intense.

Oh my days! Mark can't sink red to middle, and Nealf can't believe what hes seen. "What a miss!" he exclaims. "I'm staggered by that ... an absolute sitter." He doesn't, though, leave it, so the chase is on.

Mark develops the red on the side and is now a strong favourite for the frame. Judd looks pretty peaky sat in his chair; rightly so. There are nae demons on this table.

Mark goes in-off but leaves a nasty one to right corner; Judd, of course, attack it, misses, and promotes two previously inaccessible reds. So Selbz gets away to middle, and though there's a difficult ball on the side rail, this is a chance to pilfer; if he takes it, he's nearly there.

Ooooh, Judd gets himself into a little bit of trouble, plays two recovery-pots, then misses blue to corner ... only for Mark to do likewise to the yellow bag, focusing on position. It's getting tense out there, all the more so when The Ace slides a beauty to middle before nuzzling into the black. There are 67 points left.

Even if Judd gets on a roll, you'd still expect Mark to win from here, but a quick kill here and he'll start to wonder.
