UK Championship snooker recap - Mark Selby beats Judd Trump 10-8 to win title

Judd Trump defends his UK Championship title in the best-of-19 frame final today in York against fellow Englishman Mark Selby. Selby is a two-time champion here, winning in 2012 and 2016. The two will be fighting for a £250,000 prize and the delight of lifting a Triple Crown trophy in front of the home crowd. They will return at 7pm GMT tonight for the second session at the Barbican.

SELBY EDGES TRUMP IN NERVY THRILLER
Mark Selby withstood an evening fightback from Judd Trump to win the UK Championship for the third time in his career.
Selby was dominant in the afternoon session in York, winning five frames on the bounce to open up a 6-2 lead.
He won the first of the evening to move five clear, only for Trump to run through three frames on the spin - including a hugely controversial 11th - to get within two at the final interval.
Selby came out after the interval at the Barbican to knock in a break of 91 to steady the ship and move 8-5 clear.
In what was only the third meeting in a final of their careers, Trump responded with his second century in three frames and then took an edgy 15th to get within one.
Selby seemed under pressure for the first time in the match, but crunched in a long red in the 16th and picked off a break of 77 to get within one frame of the title at 9-7.
Trump won a scrappy 17th and the 18th was edgy, but Selby crafted a stunning break of 69 to secure the title.
Failing to defend the title he won in 2024 has resulted in Trump going the whole of 2025 without winning a trophy.

"Amazing. To win another Triple Crown event, as Judd said, they're not easy to win. It took me nine years to get back here.
"He said he didn't play great, but he put me under pressure. Even from 5-0, if he pinches a frame at the interval to go 5-3 then it's a totally different.
"I managed to pinch that one, then at nine I was just all over the place towards the end.
"I set my targets out every year to try and win one of these three tournaments, it's not easy to do. But that's my goal now and if I pick up other tournaments along the way, then fantastic. The other tournaments are great but I think you're judged by these Triple Crown events."

"I could have done with him letting me win another frame to be honest. It wasn't me playing amazing, Mark let me back in.
"I was in a similar position last year and it's hard to get over the line in these finals. I think Mark was the best player all week and he played very, very well.
"It's been a good week, great crowd the whole tournament. Look forward to coming back next year.
"I'll go away now, regroup, put in the practice, and look forward to the rest of the season."

That's a very long time for a player this good, and it's great to see him back at this level. Work still to do, though...
