Great save by Abbiati! A cross from Van Rhjn in the right back position finds Klaasen 16 yards out from goal. But despite the distance he judges his flicked header perfectly, with hi back to goal, forcing the Milan keeper to push the ball round the post.

Blind gets down the left side and whips a wicked ball into the box. However none of his teammates read it and it drifts out the other side of the box. Gamble!

One thing I've noted is how quickly Milan are getting the ball back into play. They're keeping the play deliberately high. Do they feel they're fitter than Ajax?
16'
El Shaarawy displays a nice bit of trickery, juggling the ball over the head of an Ajax player. However when it comes to making a pass it gets stuck under his feet and Ajax recover possession. Kind of sums up his night so far.

This has been an excellent game so far. Really good contest. I predict goals.

Milan are coming forward in waves now, with El Shaarawy released through on goal after a wonderful flicked touch by Balotelli. But the striker's first touch lets him down, taking him away from goal, and his shot is blocked by Denswil.
13'
Balotelli pokes the ball through to Muntari on the left hand side but he doesn't quite get the purchase on his shot he would have liked, dragging it across the box. However, nobody can sort their feet out in time to take advantage.
12'
Ajax work a move well on the edge of the box but Bojan grows a little impatient and slashes a wild effort well over the bar.
11'
Ajax are certainly settling into the contest. They look more comfortable on the ball and are toying with Milan in the midfield area. But can they turn that into final third creativity?
10'
The cumulative tally of AC Milan's shirt numbers tonight add up to 159. To be fair, that's mainly down to El Shaarawy's 92.

Great start to this game. Let that be a warning to the home side. Ajax haven't come here to sit in deep and hit on the counter. They're looking to attack from the off!

Ajax hit the woodwork! From the resulting corner kick Poulsen gets his side on the end of the delivery, glancing his effort to the far post where it looks destined to find the net. But it hits off the inside of the post and bounces into the arms of Abbiati!

Huge challenge by Zapata! Ajax fizz the ball around the box, moving the Milan back line all over the place, but when Fischer frees up some space eight yards out for a shot Zapata comes out of nowhere to put in a great last ditch tackle!

Balotelli strikes a freekick from 30 yards, dropping his shot just in front of the keeper, but Cillessen deals with it well, taking into account the bounce.
5'
Montolivo is brought down by Poulsen and Howard Webb has a word with the Ajax midfielder. Get the feeling that had that fouled been committed later in the game he would have seen yellow.
4'
Milan have started the brighter of the two teams, with Constant whipping a dangerous ball into the box from a deep position looking for Muntari. However, Cillessen comes off his line to claim the ball.
3'
Although AC Milan are in poor form in the league at the moment this is still a mammoth task for Ajax tonight. Milan have only lost two of their last 23 Champions League games at home. Formidable.
2'
Does anyone else get the feeling Bojan might have a say on the game tonight? He returns to face the team he played for last season on loan from Barcelona.

We're under way at the San Siro. It's AC Milan v Ajax!
19:40
AC Milan have made the knockout stage of this competition in their last 10 attempts, meaning they can make that progression for the 11th consecutive time. They've also conceded just once in their last three home Champions League games.
