Ruben Amorim addressed the Old Trafford crowd following Manchester United's 2-0 win over Aston Villa to end the Premier League season, telling supporters that "good days are coming."
Goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen secured a deserved three points over 10-man Villa in a match United dominated.
Despite their control, United wasted plenty of chances before and after the red card shown to Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
The result meant that Villa missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification, but for Amorim it represented a chance to further forge a connection with a disenfranchised fan base.
"First of all, I want to apologise for this season," he said. "I am really disappointed with the team.
"Secondly, I want to say thank you. We are very grateful for your support during the season. I know it was very hard in many games."
He continued: "Now we have to make a choice. Do we stay stuck in the past? This season is in the past, it's over.
"We fight each other, or we stick together and move forward.
"Six months ago, in my first three games in charge with two victories and one draw, I said to you, the storm is coming. Today, after this disaster season, I want to tell you, the good days are coming.
"If there is one club in the world that has proved in the past that they can overcome any situation or disaster, it is our club. It is Manchester United football club.
"Thank you very much - see you next season."

Since joining the club in November following Erik ten Hag's departure, Amorim has presided over a dismal season that included supporters' protests against the club's owners and player exiles.
He will hope that a new-look United side will fare far better than their 15th-placed finish this campaign.
The club have already confirmed the departure of three names following the Villa win.
Christian Eriksen, who confirmed his exit post-match, said: "I wish Man Utd and the fans all the best. Incredible stadium and club, they will be back at the top at some point I’m sure."
Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, both of whom featured against Villa, will also depart.
