Fulham 0-2 Manchester City result – Erling Haaland penalty secures Champions League qualification for City on final day of Premier League season

It was a nail-biting afternoon for the likes of Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, but over at Craven Cottage, Manchester City sauntered to UEFA Champions League security and said goodbye to what has been Pep Guardiola's most difficult season.

They only needed a point but left with three. Goal No. 1 came courtesy of Ilkay Gundogan with a beautifully improvised overhead kick that rattled off the underside of the bar and past Bernd Leno.

The goal capped a wholly dominant 20-minute period for The Citizens, after which Fulham managed to find chances on the transition as City eased back.

Adama Traore and Harry Wilson were constant threats whenever Fulham could escape from under the thumb of City's midfield, but either the accuracy was off or Ederson was on.

Traore had a run through to goal but a poor first touch when bringing down a high ball allowed Ederson to collect the ball. Kenny Tete also forced the Brazilian into a fine save right before half-time.

In the second half, still only a goal up, City looked to restrain Fulham and settled down offensively for large parts of the game. Jeremy Doku was forever there on the right-hand side waiting to punish a lax Fulham defence.

In the 72nd minute Haaland stepped up to take his penalty with a confident and smirking Leno staring at him. He buried it and clinched European football for City and managed to end a frustrating season on a positive note.

Five minutes from time, Kevin De Bruyne stepped onto a Premier League pitch for perhaps the last time, and was serenaded one final time by Man City fans as his illustrious time in Manchester came to an end. As his time at the club finishes, so too does a once seemingly impregnable dynasty.

It is all over and City have qualified for the Champions League. No trophies or silverware or honours but they have come through a tough period and finish third in the league.

The home fans are screaming for a penalty over a handball. Tete's flick seemed like it hit a hand, but the referee and VAR wave it away.

One final Premier League moment for Kevin De Bruyne, who comes on in place of Ilkay Gundogan.

Claudio Echeverri is also on for Erling Haaland.

Maybe a little bit of a confidence booster for Haaland that penalty - he's been quiet today.

He takes another powerful shot but it's clear of the goal.

Cairney makes way for Josh King and Ryan Sessegnon comes on for Traore for Fulham.

Whilst City send on Savinho in place of Doku.

No De Bruyne yet.

That will seal it for City! The striker sends Leno the wrong way and it should be the win and Champions League football wrapped up for Guardiola's side.

Fulham are still hunting their equaliser. Jimenez is primed to pounce but Traore delivers a poor ball and Ederson sweeps up to shut down another attack.

Raul Jimenez saw Ederson running at him from outside of the box and goes for a huge volley from long range... only for it to go wildly wrong and far wide.

Harry Wilson and Andreas Pereira make way for Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe for some fresh legs in attack.

Wilson has been Fulham's biggest threat. Maybe he picked up a knock?

Haaland has been a bit quiet, but he only needs one chance. He gets one as a free-kick finds him in the six-yard box, but his header travels across goal instead.

Wilson has perhaps been Fulham's liveliest player today and he even comes close to winning a penalty after a tangle with Matheus Nunes, but the referee waves it away. There wasn't much in it anyway.

Serious let-off for City as Fulham really threaten them.

Wilson bursts forward and squares it for Pereira but he scuffs his chance and City deal with the clearance.

Leno inadvertently saved a Gvardiol header with his face. He's a bit stunned and play is stopped briefly, but he's fine to continue.

Fulham get us back underway here.

It's 1-0 in City's favour at half-time after a completely dominant opening 20 minutes. But Fulham are starting to make inroads on the transition and find chances. They just have to find the net with one of them.

Once again Fulham spear forward and almost find the net.

Wilson forces a good save out of Ederson and Pereira follows it up by smashing his shot into the side netting.

Doku races down the left and pulls back inside for Marmoush, who hesitates just long enough for Robinson to block the ball away.

It falls to Bernardo Silva, but his shot is unfortunately tame and Leno deals with it easily.
