Premier League round-up: Mohamed Salah equals record as Liverpool draw, Champions League places settled on dramatic final day

There was plenty of drama on the final day of the Premier League season. All eyes were on the race for UEFA Champions League football but potential qualification for the UEFA Conference League was also up for grabs, while champions Liverpool played their final match of the season at Anfield against Crystal Palace, before lifting the Premier League trophy.

Spoils shared for victors at Anfield as Salah equals record

Both Liverpool and Crystal Palace fans were in buoyant moods having seen their sides win the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.
The match was a preamble for the Premier League trophy lift, but there was still a desire from the home supporters to mark the occasion with a win.
Palace intended to spoil the party, though, and took the lead through Ismaila Sarr after just nine minutes.
A low-key game looked to be going the way of the visitors when Ryan Gravenberch was sent off after 68 minutes, but Mohamed Salah scored his 29th league goal of the season with 84 minutes played to rescue a point and carve himself another piece of history as he pulled level with Andy Cole and Alan Shearer on 47 goals and assists.

Villa and Forest miss out in fight for Champions League places

The main drama on the final day came in the battle for the UEFA Champions League spots. Manchester City sealed theirs relatively comfortably, winning 2-0 at Fulham.
Chelsea were 1-0 winners at Nottingham Forest to secure fourth and leave Nuno Espirito Santo's side seventh.
Newcastle lost 1-0 at home to Everton, but were indebted to Manchester United, whose 2-0 victory over Aston Villa meant Eddie Howe's Magpies took the final Champions League place.

Brighton put four past Spurs

Brighton beat a Tottenham Hotspur side still celebrating their UEFA Europa League title to secure eighth place in the Premier League and potential qualification for the UEFA Conference League.
Should Chelsea beat Real Betis in Wednesday night's Conference League final - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - Brighton will feature in the competition next season.
The Seagulls went behind early on when Mathys Tel was fouled in the box and Dominic Solanke converted from the spot.
Spurs were on course to end a dismal league campaign on a high note, but Brighton fought back impressively after the break.
Jack Hinshelwood hit a well-taken, quick-fire brace to turn the game on its head and dampen the celebratory mood in north London.
Matt O'Riley scored a penalty a few minutes from time and Diego Gomez netted in injury time to seal an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Bees held at Molineux

Brighton's victory meant Brentford's hopes of finishing eighth and playing in Europe for the first time in their history were ended.
All seemed to be going to plan for Thomas Frank's side when Bryan Mbeumo struck his 20th league goal of the season in the 20th minute at Molineux. As it stood, Brentford were above Brighton, who trailed at Spurs.
But Brighton completed their comeback and Brentford could only hold their lead until the 75th minute, when Marshall Munetsi hit a ferocious shot from the edge of the box into the top right corner.

Cherries climb to ninth with win

Bournemouth took advantage of Brentford's dropped points to beat relegated Leicester 2-0 and jump to ninth.
It capped off a memorable season for Andoni Iraola's side, though they struggled to break down The Foxes for long periods at the Vitality Stadium.
The breakthrough eventually came after 74 minutes when Antoine Semenyo converted from close range.
And Semenyo was on hand again to finish well from the edge of the box and secure victory with his 12th goal of the league season.

Arsenal finish with late victory

Arsenal left it late to beat bottom side Southampton, requiring an 89th-minute Martin Odegaard effort from outside the box.
Saints, despite ending on a measly 12 points, had held Manchester City at St Mary's two weeks ago and almost did the same to Arsenal.
An unlikely goalscorer in Kieran Tierney put the Gunners in front just before half-time, but Southampton hit back through Ross Stewart just before the hour mark.
But Odegaard produced the moment of quality late on to give Arsenal victory and take them to 74 points, 10 behind champions Liverpool.

Hammers too strong for Ipswich

West Ham ended a disappointing season with a 3-1 win over relegated Ipswich.
James Ward-Prowse put the visitors in front just before half-time, but Ipswich levelled after the break through Nathan Broadhead.
Parity lasted just three minutes, though, as Jarrod Bowen marked his 200th Premier League appearance with a goal.
And Mohammed Kudus' excellent finish put the result beyond doubt after 87 minutes.
