England burst into life at Euro 2025 with a thumping 4-0 win over the Netherlands in their second match at the tournament, and they followed that up with a win over Wales to reach the quarter-finals.
Having lost their opener to France, the defending champions would have been eliminated if they had lost to the Dutch.
After another slow start in the quarter-finals, England found themselves 2-0 down against Sweden, but fought back to progress on penalties.

How did England reach the semi-finals?
England made a losing start to Group D - losing to France 2-1.
However, a 4-0 win against Netherlands saw them bounce back, before they demolished Wales 6-1 to progress to the knockout stages.

Sarina Wiegman's side then faced Sweden in the quarter-finals.
A poor first-half showing saw them go 2-0 down, but goals from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang pulled the game level.
There were no further goals in extra time, leading the tie to penalties.
In a shoot-out dominated by missed spot-kicks, it was England who eventually progressed 3-2 after Smilla Holmberg missed the crucial kick for Sweden.

Italy were the first team through to the semi-finals, with a 2-1 win against Norway.
