Switzerland are proving quite difficult to break down at the back. This time Oxlade-Chamberlain tries to slot through a pass for Rooney to run on to, but the ball is cut out before it can reach him.

There's not much tempo to this game. Both England and Switzerland have been quite timid so far. It's noticeable when Sterling gets on the ball that the speed of the play increases.

Do you what my favourite thing is about insipid England games that don't really mean anything? The England band. I live for the England band. I want them at my wedding.

HART HAD TO BE ALERT! Switzerland are so close to being through on goal, with Drmic slotting through Shaqiri but the England goalkeeper comes rushing off his line to smother the shot.

England are looking to play out from the back, but I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do against this opposition. Sterling and Oxlade-Chamberlain are begging for service into the channels.

Milner isn't happy about being shown a yellow card for that tackle. He was late in on Lichtsteiner, but the Liverpool man feels that his Juventus counterpart made the most of the contact.

YELLOW CARD: James Milner (England)

England have their hands full with Drmic. He's dropping deep to link up play with his midfielders, but then also spinning in behind Cahill and Smalling to provide an option.

He should have played the pass! Sterling drives inside off the left wing and has Shaw on the overlook. But the former Liverpool winger takes too long and is eventually caught on the ball.

Should that have been a freekick? Lichtsteiner was looking to get into the penalty area after driving down the right side, but Sterling stopped him with the sprawling tackle at the byline.

There's actually an advert for a gambling firm mowed into the grass at Wembley. Yup, mowed into the grass. I mean, it can't be that hallowed if they are literally selling it for advertising.

For once Rooney's touch was excellent when bringing down that high ball. Normally his first touch is as bouncy as a trampoline, but that was actually pretty decent. Fair play.

MILNER SHOT SAVED! Rooney plays in the Liverpool midfielder in behind the Switzerland bacline, he gets his low shot away but Sommer is behind the effort and makes the save.

That wasn't the best defending from England. Cahill and Smalling seemed to get caught under the cross, with Stocker taking the touch inside the box - but Oxlade-Chamberlain is there to mop up.

ROONEY SHOT ON GOAL! The Manchester United forward is played into the channel down the left side, and tries to curl a side-footed shot past Sommer - but it drifts past the far post.

Nice cross from Shaw! Rooney sets the ball back to his club teammate, with Shaw whipping the delivery into the box, but Oxlade-Chamberlain can't direct his shot on target.

Milner and Sterling seem to be interchanging quite nicely down the left side. That is where the majority of England's play is coming, although Switzerland are holding firm so far.

That was almost nonchalent from Smalling. Shaqiri attempted to take on the Manchester United centre back, but he simply stepped across the Stoke man and shrugged him off the ball.
