It has been the greatest season in Scott McTominay's career by some distance after winning the Serie A title with Napoli. Antonio Conte's side emerged victorious following a final-day shootout with Inter Milan to reclaim the title they lost to Simone Inzaghi's side last season. The Scotland international has now set a record for the most goal involvements by a midfielder in his debut season.

Scott McTominay has been named Serie A’s Most Valuable Player after an incredible debut season in Italy.
The 28-year-old won the first league title of his career after scoring in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Cagliari on Friday, which secured the club’s fourth Scudetto crown.
McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United last summer and has enjoyed a debut season beyond his wildest dreams.
Napoli fans have taken McTominay to their hearts, with the club's passionate supporters lauding the midfielder for his gutsy, wholehearted displays.
Former Napoli director general Pierpaolo Marino also stated that McTominay "could become a future captain if he stays."
The midfielder ended the 2024/25 campaign with 12 goals and six assists in 34 league appearances with Antonio Conte’s side.

He finished with a bang when Cagliari visited the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, as the Scotland international unleashed an unstoppable acrobatic finish past Alex Meret from Matteo Politano’s cross.
That came shortly before half-time in the 42nd minute before Romelu Lukaku added a second for the hosts, powering his way towards goal and dispatching a clinical left-footed strike past Meret.
It was enough to secure Napoli a second title in the space of three seasons, reclaiming their top-flight crown from Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri were in action away at Como on the same night, needing to win and hope Napoli slipped up in order to leapfrog their rivals into top spot.

Inter managed to do their bit with a 2-0 win over Como, thanks to goals from Stefan de Vrij and Joaquin Correa.
It was a match which will also mark a sad ending to Pepe Reina’s glittering career, as the Spanish shot-stopper was sent off for a challenge on Mehdi Taremi.
That means McTominay ends the season with 18 goal involvements - a new league record for a midfielder in a debut season after surpassing Lazio's Hernanes, according to Transfermarkt.
To put that into context, Kaka managed 15 in his first season in Italy.
