Bologna boss Thiago Motta has been appointed as Juventus’ new manager, replacing Massimiliano Allegri.
The club confirmed the news on Wednesday evening in a statement.
Motta, who led Bologna to a shock third-placed finish in Serie A this season, took over I Rossoblu in 2022 and has attracted admirers for his attacking intent and his nurturing of some of Bologna’s young starlets.
The 41-year-old has signed a three-year deal with Juventus, which will run until 2027.
Motta told the club's website: “I am really happy to begin a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus.
"I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans.”
Reports claimed that Juve had sounded Motta out as Allegri’s successor six months prior to making their move for the former Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.
The Old Lady dismissed Allegri following their Coppa Italia win over Atalanta, with the club announcing his departure due to "certain behaviours deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus".
Motta won 18 of his 37 league games this term, helping Bologna to a first Champions League qualification, with the club having not played in Europe's elite competition since 1964-65, when they lost in the preliminary round to Anderlecht on penalties.
Before his success at Bologna, Motta began his managerial career at his old club in the Paris Saint-German youth set-up before he took over another former club Genoa in 2019 for his first senior role.
The Brazil-born former Italian international took over the reins at relegation-threatened Spezia in 2021 and guided them to Serie A safety with a game to spare, earning him a chance at Bologna.
Motta set a club record in his first season with La Grassa, finishing ninth in Serie A with 54 points, before beating his own effort the following season with 68 points.
As a player, Motta won eight league titles in spells with Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSG in a highly decorated career, while he is also a two-time UEFA Champions League winner.
