Napoli win a free kick in a dangerous position down the left. Mertens lines it up.

A long ball over the top looks for Kristicic again, but Rafael comes out of his area and clears.

Sampdoria have the ball in the net after some neat passing, but as Kristicic slots the ball past Rafael from an Eder pass, the flag goes up for offside.

Napoli attack again, this time through Reveillere down the left, but he can't get a decent cross in and Samp manage to win a throw.

Big chance for Napoli. Mertens whips over a terrific cross that finds Higuain about eight yards out, but his first-time shot is more or less straight at Da Costa who nonetheless makes a solid save.

Napoli skipper Maggio powers down the right flank, but his shot is deflected behind for a corner.

Mertens is played in by a delightful pass by Dzemalli, the Belgian cuts in from the left and tries a low shot, but Da Costa saves at the near post.

Sampdoria seem to have some positive intent, and Soriano runs at the home defence before trying a shot, but it sails high and wide.

Napoli counter through Mertens, but despite having Higuain to his right and Insigne left, he tries a low shot that dribbles wide.

Samp's first effort of the game, but Kristicic's shot from the edge of the area is blocked.

Sampdoria have their first sustained spell of possession, knocking it around the back as they try to feel their way into the game.

Mertens tries to close down Da Costa, but the Sampdoria keeper manages to get the ball clear, just in time.

Neat work by Higuain puts Insigne in down the left, but his low cross aiming for Callejon in the middle is cut out by Da Costa.

Napoli keeper Rafael gets us off to a maverick start by dribbling the ball out of his penalty area, but does manage to pass the ball to a colleague before being swamped by Samp players. Lucky boy.

And Sampdoria get us underway.

Spot fact for you - Sampdoria haven't scored at the San Paolo in their last five visits.

And the players are out, remarkably not looking particularly confused to be playing football at lunchtime on a Monday. Although it is a public holiday in Italy today.
