GOAL - MERTENS GIVES NAPOLI THE LEAD! Brilliant goal for Napoli, as Callejon plays in Higuain on the right, he fires over a low cross to the near post where Mertens turns it in with a very neat finish.

Mertens clips the ball over, but it's headed behind for a corner. That breaks to Callejon on the right side of the area, but his powerful strike from a tight angle flashes across the goal and wide.

Mertens is caught by Gastaldello, giving Napoli a dangerous free kick out on the right.

Nice ball over the top by Dzemalli, but it;s just too strong for the run of Higuain.

Early change for Napoli - Reveillere limps off, replaced by Pablo Armero.

Eder does well to work some space, but his left-footed shot goes straight at Rafael. A lively start to the second half from Sampdoria.

Soriano has the first attack of the second half down the right, but Fernandez defends brilliantly and clears.

The teams are back out, and Napoli get the second half underway.

And that's half-time. It's been an entertaining game with Napoli the better side, but Sampdoria have had the ball in the net. Should be a good second 45 minutes.

The half ends in a flurry of yellow cards, Mertens being the latest for a foul on Soriano.

Higuain goes into the book, seemingly for dissent.

Sloopy play from Napoli on the edge of their own area, and Gabbiadini puts in a low cross from the right, but Rafael does well to save.

Eder pulls out to the right and puts over a deep cross looking for Gabbiadini, but it's too long and goes out.

Regini becomes the second Sampdoria player to go into the book for a sliding foul on Dzemalli.

Kristicic looks for the run of Soriano, but Albiol does well to cut out the pass.

Napoli break down the left with Higuain, and his cross into the box is just too far in front of Callejon, and he can't control his sliding shot.

A deflected shot by Obiang breaks to Eder, who turns on the edge of the area but his shot goes straight at Rafael.

Napoli have dominated thus far, but may regret their failure to convert their chances.

Higuian pulls out to the right and puts in a low cross, but Insigne just can't get there.

Mertens wriggles his way past a couple of defenders and goes down under a challenge from De Silvestri, but that was shoulder-to-shoulder and nothing is given.
