Alexander Isak exclusive: Newcastle star eyes Champions League return, credits supporters for goalscoring run

Alexander Isak is on a remarkable run of form ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League match against Bournemouth. The Swedish star has found the back of the net 11 times in his last eight matches and is now in with a chance of breaking Jamie Vardy's record for scoring in the most consecutive Premier League games. Isak spoke to TNT Sports expert Peter Crouch ahead of the clash with The Cherries.

Alexander Isak has set his sights on becoming the best striker in the world after going on a sensational scoring run for high-flying Newcastle United.
The Swedish star has found the back of the net in each of his last eight Premier League matches for The Magpies, taking his tally for the season up to 15 goals.
Isak spoke exclusively with TNT Sports expert Peter Crouch ahead of a crucial match against Bournemouth on Saturday, which will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
Isak's form has already inspired Eddie Howe's side into the UEFA Champions League places, but he says he wants more.
"I always aim as high as possible, I want to be the best," he told former Tottenham Hotspur and England forward Crouch.
"That is the ambition, and I will have to keep working hard and doing good things, which I am doing at the moment.
"It is hard to judge me and where I am at, but I am certainly happy with where I am at the moment."

'We want to get into the Champions League'

Newcastle's 3-0 triumph over Wolves on Wednesday saw them move above Chelsea into fourth place in the table.
The club are now on an impressive run of nine consecutive wins across all competitions.
Isak says he and his team-mates are hungry for Champions League football after competing against Europe's finest during the 2023/24 campaign.
"It is hard to set specific targets, obviously we want to get into the Champions League," he said.
"You can see where a good run can take you. If you look two months back, we were in a completely different place. Now we have had a good run and we are fourth.
"So yeah, we really just have to focus on our performances, but we can't hide from the fact that we want to be in the Champions League."
Isak suffered through a slow start to the season by his high standards, scoring just once across his opening six league games.
However, the Newcastle fanbase never doubted him, even going as far as to unveil a large tifo display in honour of the 25-year-old ahead of a Premier League match with West Ham United in November.
The former Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund forward revealed that scoring at St James' Park gives him a feeling unlike any other.

"It is amazing, [the fans] love their team and they love their striker," he said.
"Everywhere you go in this city everyone is loving Newcastle, which is special. It is the best feeling I have had in my career, scoring goals infront of these fans, it is special."
Newcastle will face a tough test against Bournemouth in Saturday's early kick-off.
The Cherries are unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions, and are currently four points behind The Magpies in eighth.
Isak believes Newcastle will need to be at their best against Andoni Iraola's side.
"They are also on a good run," he said. "I think they have not lost in 10 games, so it is also a team in form, and any game will be difficult if you are not on it and doing the right things.
"So, as I said, we need to focus on ourselves, but it is going to be a difficult one."

'I want to play free'

In Premier League history, only Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jamie Vardy have scored in more consecutive games than Isak ahead of the clash with Bournemouth.
The former Manchester United striker scored in 10 consecutive games during the early 2000s, before Vardy famously broke the record during Leicester City's iconic 2015/16 title-winning campaign.

Isak may only be three games away from potentially matching Vardy's record, but he insists that it is not something he has thought about up until now.
"No it is not [something I strive for], but I will be honest, looking back later in your career when you stop playing, those are nice things to have - the records and achievements," he added.
"I think now it is just about keep scoring for the team for myself. I am not really looking at the records because that would probably get in my head if I was thinking too much about that.
"I want to play free and play my game - that is how I will get the most out of myself."
