Eze subject of tug of war
Bayern Munich will battle with Arsenal for the signature of Eberechi Eze, The Sun reports.
One year on from bringing Michael Olise to the Bundesliga from Crystal Palace, Bayern are plotting a reunion by targeting the FA Cup winners’ star player.
Eze is wanted by Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta viewing the England international as the final piece of the jigsaw.
The Sun adds: “Bayern have just lost Jamal Musiala to a broken leg and dislocated ankle and they have shortlisted Eze as they seek to strengthen their attack. The German giants missed out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool. They have also lost both Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller.
“As a result they are also said to be exploring a deal for out-of-favour Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku.
“Eze has a £68m release clause and is attracting interest this summer after a stellar season in which he scored the winner for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.”
Brentford’s Mbeumo replacement
Brentford are looking into the possibility of signing Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson if Manchester United eventually agree a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from the London club, the Standard reports.
United are said to be preparing a third bid for Mbeumo after their previous offers were turned down. The Cameroon forward scored 20 Premier League goals last season.
The Standard adds: “Mbeumo and Brentford have both grown frustrated by the slow progress of negotiations with United, but a deal, which would be a club-record sale for Brentford, is still expected to be finalised.
“Mbeumo's imminent departure has left Brentford looking for replacements, and they have now identified Hutchinson, who favours a move back to London, as an option on the right wing.
“Mbeumo was pictured returning to training with The Bees on Monday morning, with Brentford featuring the winger in a compilation video posted to their social media accounts that showed members of the first-team squad arriving at the training ground.”
Arsenal eye another deal
Arsenal are poised to complete the signing of defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia this week, the Guardian reports, with the transfer set to take their summer spending beyond the £200 million mark.
The 21-year-old is set to move for an initial £13m plus up to £3.5m in bonuses, and it could cap off a busy week for The Gunners.
The Guardian adds: “Mosquera was identified as Arsenal’s main target to provide competition for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes after establishing himself as a first choice for Valencia over the past two seasons.
“His deal means Arsenal have committed to spending potentially more than £200m on players since March’s appointment of the sporting director, Andrea Berta.
“They are also poised to announce the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea for up to £52m and have agreed a deal with Sporting for Viktor Gyokeres, with the total package for the Sweden striker potentially worth £64m.”
Newcastle step up Ekitike talks
Newcastle United are a step closer to agreeing a club-record fee for Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, the Daily Mail reports.
Talks are ongoing between the two clubs, and while Frankfurt want £86m and rejected an offer of £65m from Newcastle, an agreement is getting closer.
The Mail adds: “Newcastle's previous record outlay was the £63m paid to Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak.
“Liverpool have been monitoring developments with the Sweden international but Newcastle hope to convince him to stay for one more season at least and for Ekitike to play alongside him.
“Ekitike has been on Newcastle's radar since 2022 but has also attracted interest this window from Chelsea and Liverpool with Manchester United in the background.”
