Bellerin has been disappointing in this first half. While Tierney has given Arsenal a real outlet down the left side, the Spanish full back has been kept rather quiet down the right side.

Can either side take the lead before the half time interval? Arsenal are on top at the moment. They are the ones pressing for a second goal. Southampton need the break.

From the halfway line! Ward-Prowse got his head up and spotted Leno off his line. He has the ability to score from there, but this time the midfielder shoots high of the Arsenal target.

Great feet from Ozil! The German playmaker somehow managed to keep hold of the ball inside the Southampton penalty area, but instead of taking the shot played the pass! Wrong decision.

Ings shoots wide! That was a decent opportunity for the Southampton striker to at least test Leno, but he drags his effort well wide after being set up on the edge of the box by Obafemi.

This is at least better from Arsenal, but they are lacking that final product in the attacking third. They need more from Ozil. The German has been lively, but hasn't been able to produce.

There's a buzz among the Arsenal supporters inside the Emirates Stadium whenever Tierney gets on the ball. Much of the Gunners' best attacking play is coming through him.

Tierney once! And twice! The Scottish left back was twice given the time and space to get a delivery into the Southampton area, but twice it was Stephens who managed to make the block.

Was that a handball? Some of the Southampton players believed that Guendouzi handled the ball in the box. It may well have struck his arm, but he stood no chance of moving it out the way.

Arsenal are certainly seeing more of the ball now. There is also an intensity to their passing, although they still look very vulnerable at the back whenever the away team attack.

Tierney has been one of Arsenal's best players in this first half. The Scottish full back has given the Gunners an attacking outlet down the left side throughout. Good crosser too.

As predicted before kick off, there has been a real lack of quality from these two teams, but that is producing an entertaining encounter. Plenty on the line for Arsenal and Southampton.
