The final whistle goes and it finishes goalless at Anfield in a game that promised much but delivered very little. United set up to frustrate Liverpool and did exactly that for much of the game, although it still took two wonderful saves from David de Gea to deny the home side all three points. The result leaves the table unchanged, with Liverpool in fourth, two points off the top, and United still in seventh. Thanks very much for joining us tonight, make sure to tune in again tomorrow for the pick of the Champions League action.

Fellaini boots the ball away and picks up a booking. United are happy to settle for a point here - which in truth they were set up for right from the first minute.

There are just three minutes remaining for one of these teams to grab a winner. If there's going to be a match-winning moment it feels like it'll be Liverpool who will get it, but there's plenty of space for United to attack on the break if they can get hold of the ball.

And Milner, who's limping, is replaced by the peroxide-haired Moreno.

Wow. Firmino thinks he's clean through after a magic flick around the corner by Coutinho, but Valencia produces the moment of the match with a superb sliding challenge to deny the forward just as he's about to pull the trigger. Defensive moments rarely get the praise they deserve, but that is worthy of as much praise as it can get.

Rooney fails to track the run of Milner and the converted left-back whips a dangerous ball across the United area. Nobody manages to get a touch and it wriggles through to Clyne on the far side, whose shot is blocked.

Fellaini gets his head on a corner after being left unmarked by Liverpool at the set-piece, but he fails to get the direction on his effort and Karius watches the ball drift harmlessly wide.

Henderson tries to whip up the crowd, but the atmosphere has dipped slightly in the last few minutes thanks to an extended spell of United possession designed entirely to take the sting out of their rejuvenated opponents.

Liverpool are a team transformed since the departure of Sturridge. Their trademark zip is now on display and United are clinging on.

Firmino is played in and draws another fine save out of De Gea from close range, but the flag was up in any case.

Even the Liverpool manager was impressed with that stop by De Gea, with Klopp turning and applauding the opposition goalkeeper.

This is classic Coutinho. He's been largely anonymous today, once again struggling to dictate play as his manager would like, but out of nowhere he unleashes a phenomenal strike that appears destined for the top corner, only for De Gea to produce a world-class save to keep the score at 0-0.
