"Best League in the World"
The whistle goes to end a largely uneventful first half at a wet and windy Hawthorns. West Brom have had the two best chances, both missed by former Manchester United players (Evans and Fletcher), while Stoke have played some nice stuff at times but are struggling to cut through the Baggies' defence.
Pieters has been given the runaround by Sessegnon in the first half, but he gets his own back with a clattering challenge. The fact that no foul is given is a surprise and the winger takes his time before gingerly getting back on his feet.
West Brom are finishing the half strongly, but we're still waiting for the first goal... and in truth it looks some way off.
What a chance! Stoke fail to clear the free-kick and the ball is teed up for Fletcher to hit. He has time to line it up, but fails to even hit the target. That should have been 1-0.
West Brom win a free-kick out on the left, thanks again to the lively Sessegnon, so it's another chance to get the big guys forward.
Shawcross is reunited with his captain's armband, which was ripped off during the course of that flood of corners.
Finally West Brom manage to clear and they very nearly hit Stoke on the break, only for the final pass to fail to reach the onrushing Morrison.
A Bojan flick takes a deflection into the side-netting. It's corner number four...
We're on to corner number three now for Stoke. The Baggies just can't manage to clear their lines.
Shaqiri tries a deft flick to play in Johnson when a shooting chance appeared to be on, but he gets a corner out of it at least.
However the delivery is terrible and Shawcross clears at the front post. If crosses into the box are going to be the Baggies main tactic then they are going to have to be put in with more quality than that!
West Brom win themselves another corner down the right. Up go the centre-backs...
The midfield battle is extremely tight at the moment, with both teams dropping their attacking players deep to flood the central area. It's making for quite a stop-start game.
Stoke's attack are starting to find their rhythm in tricky conditions, but it's still that Evans chance for West Brom that's the best of the afternoon so far.
