Chris Hughton: "When we came back into this division we knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we are where we are. We are a team that was relegated over a year ago which had a very good season last season - but we know there are going to be ups and downs when you look at the quality in this division."

One reason Wigan will win today - they are unbeaten in their last four PL visits to the north east, since a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland in February 2008.
14:45
One reason why Newcastle will win - they've lost their last two PL home matches. If they lose today it will be only the second time in PL history they have lost three in a row at St James’ Park. They also lost three consecutive home matches from March to April 2009. So surely we won't see that?
14:40
So that means Coloccini and Guthrie do make the line-up for Newcastle, while Cleverley is only on the bench (but Alcaraz starts)
14:35
Caldwell back in for Wigan for Gohouri, while Rodallega is left on the bench. For Newcastle Ben Arfa is of course missing from their last line-up after his horrific injury - Peter Lovenkrands steps in.

The bookmakers have Newcastle as favourites this afternoon, and so too it appears do you in the comments section. Lots of shouts for the Toon Army to win today - although d.doescher has his money on Wigan - remember you can leave a comment in the section below and get involved as we follow the game.
14:20
Who will find what it takes to win today? Will it be the home side who have have only won two of their last 13 Premier League home games and have lost three of the last four, or will it be Wigan who have only won one of their last 10 Premier League away matches?
14:15
Believe it or not, Wigan may be a point and a place above their hosts today, but their goal difference is 9 worse at -9 than Newcastle United.
14:10
Team news as soon as it comes in, but there are a few things to look out for. For Newcastle we are set to see the return of Fabricio Coloccini to the defence, though Guthrie and Simpson are slightly more doubtful. Wigan, meanwhile, could well field Tom Cleverly, their loan star, but Antolin Alcaraz is considerably more doubtful.
14:05
It's been a largely start to the season for the Magpies who are sitting 15th but have famous victories over Aston Villa and Chelsea in the League Cup to their name. Lurking just a single place and a single point above them are Roberto Martinez's Wigan, who have despite some thumping losses managed to shore things up a little of late.
