Some of the passing from Real Madrid has been atrocious so far. They have been really slack in keeping the ball, and Real Sociedad are using that to their advantage.

Real Madrid avoid what could have been a dangerous situation. Nacho's clearance inside his own box is charged down, but Navas comes off his line quickly to gather it.

That was fantastic play from Vazquez! He beat his man at the byline and sent a low pass across the six yard box looking for Benzema, but he couldn't find his teammate.

Real Madrid need Benzema to make a real impression this evening. He hasn't been in the best of form recently. He makes a big difference to the fortunes of Real Madrid when he's playing well.

Kovacic drives at the Real Sociedad defence, with a tackle ricocheting the ball into the path of Benzema. Rulli comes off his line to get to it before the French striker, can.

Real Sociedad have enjoyed a good start to the match at the Santiago Bernabeu. They are showing plenty of attacking intent, catching Real Madrid cold in these opening exchanges.

There's the first booking of the match and it's shown to Martinez for catching Ronaldo with an arm.

EARLY CHANCE! Ronaldo is knocked off the ball, allowing Zaldua to drive into the Real Madrid penalty area. He cuts it back but can't find a teammate and Ramos clears.

Barcelona caould only draw against Real Betis earlier today, meaning that Real Madrid can stretch their lead at the top of the Spanish Liga table with three points this evening.

Real Sociedad have also been in good form of late, but they suffered a damaging 5-2 defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Copa dep Rey during the week.

There's some pressure on Real Madrid this evening. They crashed out of the Copa del Rey against Celta Vigo during the week, and so they need a win to stop the rot here.
