Off the woodwork! Messi lines up a freekick on the edge of the box after being brought down by Sevilla, but he crashes his shot off the top of the crossbar. The keeper was nowhere near that!

That was a chance for Espanyol! Once again Barcelona stand off the away side as they come forward on the break, with Garcia presented with the chance to shoot from inside the box. But the effort is tame.

Bailley is playing well at the moment. He is reading the Barcelona game and must be in double figures for clearances already. He has been solid at the heart of the Espanyol defence.

Messi threads a pass through to Alves, who in turn tries to find the run of Neymar in behind the Espanyol backline, but Suarez miscontrols the ball and Casilla can gather at ease.

It's Rakitic who is being asked to sit deep, with Xavi the midfielder who is playing higher up the pitch as something of a number 10. It's slightly jarring to see him play in this role.

Barcelona are getting closer and closer to the edge of the Espanyol box with every move. They are pretty much camped at the 18 yard mark, with the away side are holding out.

Caicedo has taken a knock after a challenge on Neymar, and is taking his time in getting back to his feet, much to the ire of the home support inside the Camp Nou. Time-wasting already?

Barcelona take a quick freekick, playing a clever pass to Xavi on the edge of the penalty area, but Xavi is always leaning back and he skies his effort well over the crossbar.

Barcelona's play has been a little repetitive in the opening 20 minutes of this game. They need a bit of unpredictability, which is something they should have with Messi, Suarez and Neymar on the pitch.

Messi slips deep to collect the ball and tries to find the run of Alba down the left after the pitch opens up, but the pass from the number 10 is too strong and the ball runs out of play.

The problem for Barcelona is that Espanyol now have something to hold on to. Now the away team can sit deep and attempt to soak up Barca pressure, making themselves hard to break down.

That would have been a well worked goal. Messi clips it in for the run of Xavi, who in turn nods the ball on to Neymar, but Alvaro is quick enough to recognise the danger and make the clearance.

That was simply too easy for Garcia. The defending from Pique was weak, allowing the Espanyol striker to come inside on to his right foot and get a shot away on goal. Really poor.

Espanyol are sinking deeper and deeper into their own half as Barcelona bring the game on to them. You just get the feeling that the feeling that the home side are beginning to find their feet.

What has been quite noticeable today is that Xavi is playing as something of a number 10. He's made a number of late runs into the penalty area, which is something you don't normally assume with his game.

That last move demonstrated the danger Espanyol have on the attack. This shouldn't be a walkover for Barcelona. Espanyol pose their own threat in the final third.
