Nice link up by Khedira and Benzema, but Bergara takes it off the latter's boot just as he's about to take aim.

Mikel Gonzalez intercepts with Ronaldo set to burst clear - but it doesn't matter, as he's offside.

Real Madrid yet to get started in this half, and Vela brings the ball forward following a decent spell of possession before Khedira intercepts.

Vela nearly gives them cause for a little discomfort though - curling a shot not far wide. Easily Sociedad's best effort so far.

Sociedad, who have started the half brightly, win two successive corners but waste both.

Looks as if we'll see Vela in a more central role this half. No big surprise - Seferovic didn't get a kick in the first period.

Zurutuza is immediately in on the action, but crosses beyond Diego Lopez's back post.

Double substitution at half time by Real Sociedad - David Zurutuza replaces Gorka Elustondo, while Haris Seferovic makes way for Alberto de la Bella.

Half-time here. After a slow start, Real Madrid cranked fully into gear against a Sociedad side that just unravelled. Hard not to see the home side adding more here - they're running riot down the right, in particular.

So close from Bale! Arbeloa crosses from the left and the Welshman's Ronaldo-like header is powered just wide.

But again, the defending on the left flank verged on the cursory. Jose Angel and, ahead of him, Griezmann just can't cope.

Khedira, with all the time in the world, chips a cross in. Ronaldo attacks it, but heads straight at Bravo.

Carvajal bursts forward but the move breaks down. Notable there was that Griezmann completely failed to track him. Sociedad getting very little defensively from their wide men here. Each Madrid switch completely takes them out.

Ronaldo is allowed to carry the ball 50 yards and, after innumerable stepovers, goes to ground in the box under Carlos Martinez's attentions. Nothing doing. He knows it, as his wry smile indicates.

Vela, comfortably the biggest threat for Sociedad since the opening minutes, thinks he is bundled over by Khedira on the edge of the box - but nothing is given. He had a case.

You have to praise Madrid's hunger and energy though. They've won the ball back in and around the Sociedad half on countless occasions. Modric and Khedira superb.
