One interesting name on the City teamsheet is Eric Garcia. Said to be unwilling to sign a new deal at the club, and out of contract next summer, this could be one of his last appearances. He's still only 19, despite being among the more established members of tonight's line-up. If he does leave - most likely for Spain - could Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez come the other way?
Bournemouth have never beaten Man City in a competitive fixture.
"Tonight, we begin our Carabao Cup campaign and we want to make it four in a row," Guardiola wrote in his programme notes, somewhat stating the obvious. "We love this competition and it has provided us with some great memories in recent seasons." It provided the Cherries with a great memory in the last round as they beat Crystal Palace 11-10 on penalties. Every Bournemouth outfield player scored from the spot.
The average age of this Man City team is just 22. Doyle, Delap, Harwood-Bellis, Garcia and Bernabe are all teenagers - Foden and Torres are only 20.
Liam Delap is indeed the son of Rory, if you were unsure.
Bournemouth also mix things up, making seven changes from the team who drew with Middlesbrough last time out. Sam Surridge is the man up top, Lloyd Kelly figures to be the most experienced member of a young trio in central defence and David Brooks - linked with a move to the red half of Manchester not long ago - is the man on whom Bournemouth's hopes may be pinned most.
BOURNEMOUTH: Travers, Smith, Ofoborh, Simpson, Kelly, Rico, Billing, Gosling, L. Cook, Brooks, Surridge. Subs: Begovic, Stacey S. Cook, Zemura, Lerma, Kilkenny, Anthony.
Pep Guardiola promised changes and he has delivered, with just three players who started City's first game of the league season doing so tonight - Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Rodri. American goalkeeper Zack Steffen makes his debut, while summer signing Ferran Torres is handed a chance to impress from the off too. Liam Delap, 17, is poised to lead the line. It's a young team.
MANCHESTER CITY: Steffen, Walker, Garcia, Harwood-Bellis, Rodrigo, Doyle, Foden, Torres, Bernabe, Mahrez, Delap. Subs: Carson, Ake, Mendy, Palmer, Sterling, De Bruyne, Nmecha.
First though, here's some transfer gossip from the continent to whet your appetite.
