Well then. Having been under pressure for most of the match, Bournemouth hit back with their first real chance.

GOAL! Man City 1-1- Bournemouth (Surridge). The visitors are level! Surridge scores, turning and firing past Steffen after Gosling slid him the ball, but that goal is all about Brooks. He carried the ball from his own half to the edge of the opposition box, almost swapping flanks in the process and beating several opponents before passing to Gosling.

GOAL! Man City 1-0 Bournemouth (Delap). The 17-year-old opens the scoring! After Bournemouth lose the ball, Foden finds Delap with a through ball, weighted perfectly. The youngster hits it first time, from just inside the Cherries' box, and sends the ball past Travers into the top corner. Lovely goal.

Another nice Foden pass tees up Mahrez, but he too is denied by Travers from a tight angle.

Foden lines up a shot from the edge of the box, but it is blocked.

A delightful Foden dink finds Torres, who had run behind the Bournemouth defence. The angle is tight, however, and Travers is out quickly to deny his poked effort.

Rico plays as excellent ball down the left channel which Surridge gets to, ahead of Harwood-Bellis, but the Cherries striker wastes the opening with a bad cross.

City are, roughly, playing 4-2-3-1 so far. Bernabe is at left-back, Walker right, and Diyle is holding with Rodri. Bernabe clearly has licence to attack, while Mahrez and Foden have already swapped positions.

Foden volleys well wide follows some head tennis.

A scrappy passage of play sees Bournemouth press the hosts and win the ball on the edge of their box, only to be unable to string two passes together. Surridge is offside when the ball inadvertently comes his way.

Delap penalised early on after a loose touch allows Smith to steal the ball.

Following a knee in unison, City get the game going.

The Cherries have conceded 30 goals in their last 10 games against City - all defeats - and not kept a single clean sheet.

With Claudio Bravo now at Real Betis - something that somewhat flew under the radar -Steffen is firmly Man City's second-choice keeper, so this is a huge night for him.

Including penalties, City have won 18 of the last 20 matches in this competition. Both defeats were 1-0 losses to Manchester United, although the second of those came in an aggregate victory in last season's semi-finals.

One interesting name on the City teamsheet is Eric Garcia. Said to be unwilling to sign a new deal at the club, and out of contract next summer, this could be one of his last appearances. He's still only 19, despite being among the more established members of tonight's line-up. If he does leave - most likely for Spain - could Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez come the other way?
