CASEMIRO SWEEPS OUT TO DORGU
Whose first touch is heavy. This is not the first time I've written or said that of him.
41'
UNITED PASS INDECISIVELY
Then a decent ball down the line from Yoro picks out Bruno ... who crosses straight to Mata.
39'
DALOT RUNS AT AKOUOKOU
Who stands his ground and the two clash knees, the Lyon man feeling the worst of it. It's sore, but he'll be fine.
38'
...AND PERRI PUNCHES CLEAR
Meantime, the Lyon players complain to Bruno for taking the corner with Mikautadze down.
36'
DALOT'S THROW IS CLEARED
Then Ugarte crosses straight to the nearest defender. He does, though, win it back, the ball is pumped into the box, and Dorgu leaps but, as it drops, he can't get his shot away. Through all of that, Mikautadze was down but the ref felt he was fine and the replay shows indeed he dived – or dove, depending on your bent. United win a corner...
35'
UNITED PASS IT ABOUT SLOWLY
They look comfortable enough but know they struggle to score, reticent to take risks and with little cohesion or imagination. They do, though win a throw deep inside the Lyon half...
33'
HOJLUND GETS THE BALL IN THE INSIDE-RIGHT POSITION
And he drives boxwards, men all around him, and eventually he scuffs a shot that's easily saved by Perri.
32'
AT SPURS
Pedro Porro has equalised against Frankfurt. Follow along here.
31'
DALOT SLIDES IN FROM MILES AWAY
And nails Tagliafico, studs introduced to metatarsus. He's booked and rightly so; United need to keep the head.
30'
THE GROUND IS BOUNCING
United need to keep their heads and make sure they stay in the tie.
28'
IT REALLY IS HARD TO FATHOM
How Onana felt secure enough to diss Lyon. His team are not good enough for that, nor is he, and yet. It is not at all clear why Erik ten Hag thought he was good enough.
26'
Olympique Lyonnais
GOAL! LYON 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (ALMADA)
We said it not because we're clever but because it was obvious. Almada curls well into the middle and Onana, unsure whether to come or not, does nothing as Niakhate, in the middle, leaps and gets nothing on the ball. Then, when it bounces in front of Onana by his far post, he reacts far too late to stop it riding his dive, catching his palm, and looping high into the net. He is not, I'm afraid, a good goalkeeper, and his public embarrassment after his public proclamations was extremely predictable.
25'
MAZRAOUI FOULS TAGLIAFICO UNNECESSARILY
And Lyon have a free-kick out on the left, 25 yards from goal.
24'
FROM THE CLEARED CORNER, UNITED RECYCLE
And Casemiro is in the middle, 12 yards out, trying a bicycle kick which is straight at Perris.
23'
GOOD WORK DOWN THE RIGHT FROM UNITED
Garnacho and Dalot combine and when the latter crosses, Bruno steps over but Hojlund isn't close enough to profit. No matter, United go again, Dalot crossing again and this time Bruno peels away, sweeping a decent shot goalwards that's deflected over the top.
22'
WE'VE BARELY SEEN BRUNO SO FAR
As Amorim has previously lamented, it's unfortunate there aren't two of him because he is United's only player able to a) pass incivisively and b) do something decent upon receiving an incisive pass.
21'
FINISH!

20'
THE CORNER YIELDS ANOTHER
Dalot heading behind. Cherki curls in, Casemiro heads heads out, and Almada shanks a volley to who knows here.
18'
AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!
Dorgu steps up to trigger the press and Hojlund wins it high then feeds him. Down the left side of the box, the cut-back is a good one ... but Hojlund can only impart ankle to ball, sending his shot almost dead square, without even the power to get itself wide. Very poor behaviour and almost immediately, Lyon go down the other end and win a corner.
16'
LYON ARE DOMINATING THE BALL NOW
By and large, United are letting them, set in their shape then winning possession back when they get the chance. Which is to say that, so far, the teams are cancelling each other out.
