Lyon 2-2 Manchester United: UEFA Europa League result as Andre Onana errors cost victory

They look comfortable enough but know they struggle to score, reticent to take risks and with little cohesion or imagination. They do, though win a throw deep inside the Lyon half...

How Onana felt secure enough to diss Lyon. His team are not good enough for that, nor is he, and yet. It is not at all clear why Erik ten Hag thought he was good enough.

We said it not because we're clever but because it was obvious. Almada curls well into the middle and Onana, unsure whether to come or not, does nothing as Niakhate, in the middle, leaps and gets nothing on the ball. Then, when it bounces in front of Onana by his far post, he reacts far too late to stop it riding his dive, catching his palm, and looping high into the net. He is not, I'm afraid, a good goalkeeper, and his public embarrassment after his public proclamations was extremely predictable.

Garnacho and Dalot combine and when the latter crosses, Bruno steps over but Hojlund isn't close enough to profit. No matter, United go again, Dalot crossing again and this time Bruno peels away, sweeping a decent shot goalwards that's deflected over the top.

As Amorim has previously lamented, it's unfortunate there aren't two of him because he is United's only player able to a) pass incivisively and b) do something decent upon receiving an incisive pass.

Dorgu steps up to trigger the press and Hojlund wins it high then feeds him. Down the left side of the box, the cut-back is a good one ... but Hojlund can only impart ankle to ball, sending his shot almost dead square, without even the power to get itself wide. Very poor behaviour and almost immediately, Lyon go down the other end and win a corner.

By and large, United are letting them, set in their shape then winning possession back when they get the chance. Which is to say that, so far, the teams are cancelling each other out.
