Wednesday’s Le Mans 2026 qualifying session lasted 30 minutes and the fastest 15 cars in each class earned a place in Hyperpole 1.
The big shock of the night was that the defending champions who won Le Mans 2025,
the AF Corse 83, missed Hyperpole.
In Hyperpole 1 on Thursday, the top 10 fastest cars from a 20-minute session will advance to Hyperpole 2.
The remaining 10 contenders will then contest Hyperpole 2 over 15 minutes to see who gets top spot on the grid for Le Mans 2026.

Cadillac denied pole by disqualification as BMW make history
Cadillac Hertz Team Jota were disqualified after celebrating what they thought was pole in Le Mans 24 Hours, as BMW M Team WRT were awarded the honours.
Jack Aitken posted the quickest qualifying lap of the Hypercar era of 3:22.5 for Cadillac as they looked to have beaten BMW by just five hundreds of a second.

However, after Mark Cavendish had handed out the medals and the Champagne had been popped the result was changed.
Cadillac were relegated to 10th on the starting grid for what appeared to be a pit lane infringement and BMW were awarded pole for the first time at Le Mans.
Alpine went quickest in qualifying the previous day but only finished fourth, while the leading Ferrari car placed ninth.
Meanwhile, the LMGT3 class will be led by the Heart of Racing Team in their Aston Martin Vantage.
They beat Vista AF Corse car of Ferrari into second and two Lexus cars into third and fourth.
Meanwhile, in the LMP2 category Forestier Racing by Panis took the first pole of their history following a stellar drive from Esteban Masson.
They finished ahead of Idec Sport in second, driven by Job Van Uitert and the Nielsen Racing team of Jack Doohan in third.

History for BMW in controversial circumstances
Bamber ‘disgusted’
It is not a good image for Le Mans and Earl Bamber has said that it was "disgusting" what had just happened.
Cadillac were allowed to completely enjoy that pole position and now sit 10th.
Cadillac are disqualified from Hyperpole 2
Cadillac were celebrating their medals and are on the podium. However, it has just flashed up that Dries Vanthoor has won the Hyperpole 2.
Cadillac are relegated from pole position down to 10th. It is thought to be because the Cadillac were released early in the pit lane.

Bamber responds to sitting on pole
Cadillac Hertz Team Jota driver Earl Bamber has reacted to team-mate Jack Aitken putting the car on pole.
He said: ”I mean, what an amazing job the team did.
”We've been working since last year to come here at Le Mans.
”Jack just put an amazing lap in. But everyone in this garage, the Mighty 38, we've been working very hard.
”A huge thanks to everyone at Cadillac. We’re going to celebrate. But now there's a long 24-hour race. Now the big one.”

BMW left gutted
BMW thought they were heading towards a first pole in their history at Le Mans. However, Jack Aitken had other ideas and they were beaten to pole by the closest margin in history.
Aitken steals pole
There is bedlam in the Cadillac garage as Jake Aiken beats his own lap record to post a fastest time of 3:22.5 and five hundredths of a second quicker than the BMW.
Vanthoor miles ahead
The BMW car of Vanthoor has gone even quicker than his first benchmark time. His latest time of 3:22.5 is five tenths of a second faster than Stevens.
Cadilac find response
Will Stevens has moved into second position, but still five tenths of a second behind the leading car.
The Cadillac is the only car within a second of the BMW.
BMW set early pace
An aggressive first lap by Dries Vanthoor has resulted in a time of 3:22.4 which is one second faster than team-mate Rob Frijns in the number 20 car.
Early tyre changes
Three cars have decided to put a new set of tyres on their cars after just one lap. That will give them cleaner air. There are believes that teams are using older tyres to build their brake temperature before changing.
Hyperpole 2 underway
There was some confusion over who was starting this session. However, the session is now starting. Cars have 15 minutes to grab Le Mans pole.
Hyperpole 2 delay
We were just minutes from Hyperpole 2 getting underway. The 12 Cadillac is under investigation for an infringement in the previous session.
The other Cadillac was also released too quickly into the fast lane. The delay is just a single minute.
Giovinazzi saves Ferrari
Antonio Giovinazzi left it until the final lap to move his Ferrari up to eighth position and into Hyperpole 2. The 50 Ferrari is out, alongside both Toyota cars (7 & 8), an Alpine (36) and an Aston Martin (007).

Both cars by Toyota are out in Hyperpole 1. There evening was summed up by their last time being eliminated by track limits.
Aston Martin change fortunes
Both Aston Martin cars have came up with the good at a key moment and moved into sixth and seventh respectively.
Van der Linde moves out of danger
The BMW M Team car was in 11th position and faced missing out on Hyperpole 2. However, despite rattling through the final chicane he moved up the standings.
Nightmare for Ferrari
Antonio Giovinazzi in the 51 Ferrari has just five minutes to save his Hyperpole 1 session. However, first he over-runs his pit entrance and changes tyres.
He will do well to qualify from this position.
Ferrari and Aston Martin in trouble
Antonio Fuoco has just saved Ferrari’s blushes by moving them out of the bottom five and into sixth.
However, the number 51 Ferrari and both Aston Martin’s are in trouble in the bottom five and face heading out of Hyperpole.
Cadillac make good start
Earl Bamber has just posted the quickest time of 3:23.7 and his fellow Cadillac driver Ricky Taylor is in third.
The number 19 Genesis Magma Racing car is second.
Jaubert makes early mistake
The Genesis Magma Racing car went over a chicane and almost took flight. It certainly won’t have done his tyres much good.
However, his time is still good enough for fifth.
Soft tyres for Hyperpole 1
The lower temperature and need to set a quick time early in the session has seen teams elect for soft tyres in this session.
The garages are all looking on nervously as they await the early times to come in.
Hypercars start hyperpole
We are underway for 20 minutes of Hyperpole 1. The aim for each car is to sit inside the top 10 to make it into Hyperpole 2.

Drudi feeling ‘really confident’ after taking pole
Aston Martin driver Mattia Drudi says that he’s feeling ‘really confident’ after sitting on LMGT3 pole.
He said: ”I feels really great. It's nice to be again here on pole in the Hyperpole after last year.
”The car has been behaving really well. The car is quick, we are feeling really confident.
”Of course, the race is another thing. It's not a story, but it's always a good starting point for sure.”

Drudi and Mason sit on pole
Esteban Masson has given Forestier Racing By Panis a first pole position for the team in the LMP2 category.
Meanwhile, it’s a familiar feeling for Mattia Drudi in the 27 Heart of Racing Team who sits on pole for the second time in the LMGT3 class in the Aston Martin.
Jack Doohan third on grid
The Nielsen Racing driver can’t beat Masson but will start third on the LMP2 grid. The British driver is moved down at the final moment by the Idec Sport who snatches second place and a front row start.
Aston Martin blast away opposition
It’s a stellar time for Mattia Drudi in the 27 Heart of Racing Team car. His time of 3:52.4 is over a second faster than the Ferrari of Rovera.
Masson sets blistering time
Esteban Masson has posted a stunning time of 3:33.1 in the LMP2 category. There are cheers from his garage as he tops the leaderboard.

The Vista AF Corse car driven by Alessio Rovera is five tenths quicker than their nearest challenger is LMGT3
Duqueine Team quickest in LMP2
The number 30 team of Duqueine are the quickest of the early times as their 3:34.5 is seven tenths quicker.
Julien Andlauer is the driver of the 30.
Hyperpole 2 underway
Now drivers will be fighting for pole position in the LMGT3 and LMP2 categories. However, the Lexus 78 car has had drama in the pit lane with the car's door coming off.
The door then fails to close resulting in them losing key time in the 15-minute window. Eventually enough pushing and brute force sees the door eventually close.

Mercedes and Porsche outside top 10
The 61 Mercedes car has failed to make the top 10 of the LMGT3 cars driven by Rui Andrade.
The Porsche 92 car are also disappointed after missing out on Hyperpole 2 in the category. The 92 has won the LMGT3 for the last two years, but was slowest in Hyperpole 1.
Oliver Jarvis misses out
Too many mistakes for the 222 of Oliver Jarvis has resulted in the LMP2 car exiting Hyperpole 1, after missing a top 10 spot.
Last laps for cars in danger
Those not in inside the current top 10 are still out on track with two minutes of Hyperpole 1 remaining. Others are happy with their time and are in the pits.
Drama out on course
The yellow flags are out at the second chicane as the 37 car of Theo Jensen has crashed into the barrier.
That could end their Hyperpole 1 session as the LMGT3 car has yet to set a time.
Pace setters in Hyperpole 1
The word from the garages is to get a ‘banker’ lap early in this Hyperpole 1 session.
Team WRT in the BMW M4 has set a benchmark time of 3:53.3 in the LMGT3 spot and might have secured his team’s Hyperpole 2 position already with that.
The Crowdstrike Racing by APR car driven by Laurin Heinrich has set two of the quickest laps in the LMP2 category.
Oliver Gray driving the number 20, Forestier Racing by Panis car has the best LMP2 car is struggling in the final sector and two tenths behind.
Hyperpole underway
We are underway in Hyperpole for the LMP2 and LMGT3 cars.
However, one car who is missing is Racing Team Turkey By If car who qualified quickest in the LMGT3 category yesterday under Peter Dempsey before being disqualified.

How Hyperpole works
The 15 qualified LMP2 and LMGT3 cars will take to the track shortly. They will have 20 minutes to make the top 10 positions.
The top 10 then return to the track to battle for pole position over 15 minutes.
The Hypercar sessions will run the same following the conclusion of the LMP2 and LMGT3 Hyperpole.

How qualifying went for LMP2 and LMGT3 cars
It was a great day yesterday for talented driver Doriane Pin who was quickest in practice and in qualifying fastest in the LMP2 category for the Duqueine Team.
However, it might be a different story tonight with different drivers in both Hyperpole sessions.
AF Corisica miss Hyperpole
Last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours winners, AF Corisica will start toward the back of the Hypercar grid after failing to make it through qualifying.
The number 83 car won a third consecutive Le Mans title for Ferrari’s Hypercar programme in 2025.
However, they struggled for pace and clean track during the opening qualifying session and finished 17th of 18 cars to miss tonight’s Hyperpole.
Yifei Ye of the AF Corse team was not too deterred by the result, with 24 hours of racing ahead of the car.

Hyperpole session tonight
The top 15 cars from yesterday’s qualifying will compete for pole position tonight in Saturday’s Le Mans 24 Hours.
First we will have the LMP2 and LMGT3 classes at 19:00 BST. They will be followed by the Hypercar class at 20:05 BST.
Teams have to field a different driver in each of the qualifying and two Hyperpole sessions.
