Si Jiahui all but cost himself a place in the 2025 Shanghai Masters second round in what was a "horrid" moment for the home player.
Despite leading by two frames early on, Wilson fought back to clinch a 6-5 victory in the deciding frame, which went all wrong for Si.
The decisive moment came in that 11th frame when Si played a "dreadful" shot, which prompted TNT Sports commentator Neal Foulds to ask the question: "How can you finish there?!"
Locked at 5-5 with the 2024 World Champion, Si led 22-1 and looked to be building a break which could win him the frame and, in turn, the match.
But after putting away red to blue, he played an awful positional shot off the latter, which left him tucked up against the pink just off its spot.
With 10 reds remaining on the table and plenty of options wasted, the 23-year-old was forced to play a poor safety shot back up the table.
Wilson capitalised with a fine match-winning break of 83, sending Si tumbling.
"What has he done?! What has he done?" Foulds cried out on TNT Sports.
"That was a dreadful shot. How can you finish there? It is one place on the table that is no good. He can't even comfortably get to the red up the table.
"He got into the cue ball too much. How has he played that shot? There were so many other options there. I cannot believe that's happened, and neither can he.
"He almost had too many things on his mind there, too many different ways to get on reds. What he's done is absolutely the worst thing. Just a horrid place to finish. Completely self-inflicted.
"That's going to hurt him."
Philip Studd added: "A tortured expression on Si's face tells the story."
