Shanghai Masters 2025: Judd Trump hammers Neil Robertson after Mark Selby whitewashes Shaun Murphy, Zhang Anda makes 147 break

Mark Selby whitewashed old foe Shaun Murphy 6-0 in the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters, boosted by two superb centuries. He will next face world No. 1 and defending champion Judd Trump, who thrashed Neil Robertson to move through in style. Elsewhere, Kyren Wilson will face Ronnie O'Sullivan or Barry Hawkins after edging Si Jiahui 6-5 in a six-century thriller.

New season, same old Judd Trump. The best player in the world began with a century, added a second in frame two and then made a third to clinch the match, as a smiling Neil Robertson forced to acknowledge there was little he could do against the onslaught.
Robertson actually played fairly well, and trailing 4-2, was well ensconced at the table and looking likely to reduce his arrears to just one frame.
But a bad miss – a red to right corner with the rest - offered the opportunity of a clear-up, and the defending champion, playing in his favourite Chinese city, did so with characteristic composure.
Trump meets Mark Selby next while, on the other table, Zhang Anda registered the second 147 of the season.

Judd Trump beats Neil Robertson 6-2

Neil didn't play badly, but not badly is nowhere near good enough to beat Judd in this form. He seals the deal with another ton and some naughty snooker, rocketing a brown to left corner, doing likewise with the blue - the crowd "Oooh!" their approval – and though his trick-shot on the black doesn't work out, a third century to clinch the match will leave him feeling pretty satisfied with his performance. Smiling, Neil pats him on the tummy, well aware of what he's faced. He'll take some stopping as the season unfolds.

Trump 5-2 Robertson (71-0)

Down it goes, and all that remains now is to find out whether Judd'll seal this with another ton.

Trump 5-2 Robertson (65-0)

Neil will be sore he missed that red in the last frame, though in this form, Judd is close to unbeatable. The champ needs the blue for the match and a last-eight meeting with Mark Selby, who whitewashed Shaun Murphy earlier today....

Trump 5-2 Robertson (56-0)

I seem to recall Zhang got close to the 167, $1m maxi in Saudi, a power-cut interrupting his break before it broke down, but he's completed one today. Meantime, Judd continues accumulating, and this could be the match.

Zhang Anda makes a 147!

The first of the season; it won't be the last, and the Shanghai crowd go wild! What a moment, a 147 at home, and imagine how he feels right now! Well done old mate, well done.

Trump 5-2 Robertson (25-0)

Down it goes, he's mooches up the table, and Judd stops playing to allow him his moment, black to right corner...

Trump 5-2 Robertson (25-0)

Zhang gets really nicely on to the blue, sinks it into right-middle, and now it's pink to the green bag.; COME ON ZHANG LAD!

Trump 5-2 Robertson (9-0)

Neil sends one long to the yellow bag ... and it stays out, leaving Judd one to right corner, which he caresses home; he'll want to seize f&m at this visit. Meantime, Zhang is on the green, with the key shot, blue to pink, imminent.

Trump 5-2 Robertson

The Shanghai crowd are cheering every ball and this is a really good chance, though the pink is just below the baulk-line, so not easy to get on, sink, and get off. He's playing the yellow, and looks as calm as you can under the circumstances.

Trump 5-2 Robertson

It should've been 4-3, but one miss and it's 5-2; a proper heel to the solar plexus for Neil. But on table two, Zhang is on 105m with a maxi on the agenda; come on!

On table two

Ding Junhui 4-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 5-2 Robertson

And there it is. A sadistic steal from the champ, and Neil wins four straight to progress. Good luck with that old mate.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (50-65)

Blue, pink and black for a vomit-inducing steal...

Trump 4-2 Robertson (25-65)

Off the black, Judd floats down to baulk, gets the perfect bounce off the cushion, and dispatches the difficult red. We've a new favorite for the frame, and Neil will be feeling exceedingly poorly; if he loses the frame, it'll feel like he's lost the match.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (25-65)

A very nice cut-back – more of a slice-back – keeps Judd in the hunt, and Neil will be fearing the worst.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (8-65)

Needing red-black for the frame, Neil jabs with the rest towards right corner ... and somehow, can't send it down! I didn't see that one coming and, though the table isn't easy, with a red on the baulk cushion send others blocking each other, you'd not back against him administering due punishment.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (0-44)

Neil removes balls and the frame should soon be his, reds laid out almost like a potting drill.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (0-29)

A thin cuts keeps the run going and fortune favors Neil's bravery, pink and black developed in the process; he raises a hand in apology, but his desire to take on a difficult shot and skill in nailing it are what caused that to happen, not luck.

Trump 4-2 Robertson (0-14)

Reds pretty open, Neil goes hard at one to right corner and gets pretty close, taking the white back to baulk, so leaving nowt. A few shots later, Judd has a go to left corner, misses, and cannons a stray red, offering an opportunity in the process.

On table two

Ding Junhui 3-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 4-2 Robertson

Left a red, Neil sees it away, and that's the frame; he's still in the match.

Trump 4-1 Robertson (32-69)

Judd clears until there's one red left, then tucks in behind the brown, both balls on the side rail and the object-ball in baulk; Neil hits well, and when he misses his next attempt at a pot, he flukes a snooker of his own, but the escape does the trick.

Trump 4-1 Robertson (1-69)

Neil sinks the blue but where's the white ball going?! Towards right corner is the answer and it's going to drop ... no, it stops on the lip. Gosh, he must've swallowed his insides there. He can't then send the next red across the table and in, so the champ returns to it needing a snooker.

Trump 4-1 Robertson (0-39)

I'm just about to say Neil's playing at a nice pace, then Angles gets there first, which is gratifying in the extreme: no one knows this game better. He looked in pretty good nick yesterday, he's just up against a genius today.

Trump 4-1 Robertson (0-11)

Judd goes at a longun to right corner, missing, and that lets Neil in, who knows he's got to make something out of every opportnity now. There are a few loose reds to get him going, but at soe point he'll need to do something with a pack that doesn't look that receptive to cracking.

On table two

Ding Junhui 3-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 4-1 Robertson

Playing this well, Judd is almost impossible to stop.

Trump 3-1 Robertson (72-8)

Oh! Judd misses red to left corner, so Neil returns to the table needing a snooker ... to finds that he's in one himself. His escape misses, leaves a free ball, and that's that.

Trump 3-1 Robertson (68-8)

The white has travelled a bit during this run but Judd's always been in control; now it's a cut-back black, across the table and from close to the side, for the frame ... and down it goes. Neil must win the next frame but really, he needed to take this one.

Trump 3-1 Robertson (37-8)

Judd wobbles a red into right corner which takes him down the table, returns to the business end off the yellow, and this is a performance of supreme confidence.

Trump 3-1 Robertson (4-8)

Eyeing up a longun to left corner, Neil sends it down beautifully, but off the black can't get on a second red so it's back to the baulk cushion. Then, going again to the same bag, steering slowly, he undercuts, leaves one to left-middle, and off Judd goes again. He's playing very nicely indeed.

We go again

On table two

Ding Junhui 2-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 3-1 Robertson

A run of 61 secures the frame and going to the interval, Neil has some thinking to do. How do you beat an amazing potter who thrives under pressure and plays safety as well as anyone? join me again in 15 minutes to find out.

Trump 2-1 Robertson (64-8)

Judd accumulates. His desire to keep winning is very serious, and the way he's developed his tactical game - which looks likely to win him this frame - reflects that.

Trump 2-1 Robertson (36-8)

Neil opts to take on a skinny one into left-centre, misses and for extra grief the white goes in-off. That's a triumph for Judd, who dangled the tempter deliberately, and it should win him the frame.

Trump 2-1 Robertson (26-8)

Looking at a nasty cut to right corner, Judd goes hard, splatters balls all over, misses the pot ... and somehow leaves nothing. That's an almighty stroke, but when Neil looks to plant along the baulk rail, he too misses and somehow leaves nothing.

Trump 2-1 Robertson (6-8)

Neil looks to plant a red to right corner, almost a pool shot, but the ball won't drop and that is going to cost him. The table isn't easy, but there are plenty of loose reds for someone extremely adept at picking a route through them.

Trump 2-1 Robertson (0-8)

Excellent from Neil, white left behind green, and this match might just be developing into the classic for which we'd hoped – as we said at the start, these two almost guarantee something worth watching. Judd misses twicem then hits.

On table two

Ding Junhui 1-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 2-1 Robertson

The Thunder clears the balls and gets on the board.

Trump 2-0 Robertson (31-56)

Neil punishes the error, and he'll be a relieved boy.

Trump 2-0 Robertson (31-37)

Looking to nick a red near black cush, from on top and on the stretch, into left corner, Judd doesn't get especially close; a reprieve for Neil, and doesn't he need it?

Trump 2-0 Robertson (19-34)

Oh! Looking to slot to left corner, Neil catches a red he thinks – or hopes - his ball passes, and suddenly a frame that looked his is up for grabs. That's the pressure of playing Judd: you feel you can't pass up any scoring opportunity because they're so difficult to come by. The table is not a difficult one.

Trump 2-0 Robertson (11-28)

Neil breaks the pack and, as we saw yesterday, is in decent touch himself. The problem he has is he's playing Judd, not Pang Junxu, a decent player but one who'll tolerate more errors than the best player in the world, primed to punish each of them severely. For now, though, he's cueing nicely and should secure the frame at this visit.

Trump 2-0 Robertson (11-5)

Cannoning reds after slotting another middle, Judd leaves himself without a colour, looking to play safe on to the green ... but he misses it. Chance for Neil to settle into the match.

Trump 2-0 Robertson (6-0)

Judd opens the pack playing safe, leaving Neil a difficult riposte; he does his best with it, but there's a long clip to right corner and it's oozed down; with no colour available, it's in behind the green, with no obvious way of getting everything safe. The Thunder misses once, then lands on one near black cush ... leaving a cut-back. So off Judd goes again.

On table two

Ding Junhui 0-1 Zhang Anda

Trump 2-0 Robertson

A 103 and now a 127. Judd Trump is good at snooker.

Trump 1-0 Robertson (100-0)

There's the second ton, and this is glorious stuff.

Trump 1-0 Robertson (86-0)

Gasps from the crowd as Judd develops one red off another, and this is seriously impressive stuff. He apparently spent some of the close season knocking about Bali and South Korea; the break seems to have gone down well.

Trump 1-0 Robertson (51-0)

Judd breaks the pack off the black and reds fan out, but is he on one? Just about: he slides one past another into left corner, and this is ominous behaviour, all the more so when he sinks the blue, zips around the angles, and picks another narrow corridor to continue the break. This could well be another tom.

Trump 1-0 Robertson (19-0)

Rust? What rust? Off Neil's break, Judd smokes a starter long into left corner, adds blue to the green bag, and he's in again. There's work to do with the pack, but he looks in just the mood to sort it.

On table two

Ding Junhui 0-0 Zhang Anda

Trump 1-0 Robertson

A 103 and Judd's season is under way in the grand style.

Trump 0-0 Robertson (87-0)

Judd made 102 tons last season, and he'll fancy another here – he won £100,000 in the process. You'd not back against him.

Trump 0-0 Robertson (59-0)

He's sporting a decent tan, so Judd hasn't been spending all his time on the practice table, but he's in decent touch here. So, though, is Neil – but he can't be missing balls like the one that's cost him this frame.

Trump 0-0 Robertson (42-0)

Judd quickly opens the pack – his power is so effortless – and there's no sense he won't win the frame at this visit.

Trump 0-0 Robertson (12-0)

Mistake from Judd, but Neil misses to the green bag and leaves a sitter, tucked away, which is followed by a terrific cut-back yellow. That brings the white up the table, the black is quickly in play, and this is a chance for the champ.

Here come our players

There's a buzz in the arena, and not just because of our match – on table two, it's Ding Junhui v Zhang Anda. Here we go!

Our contest

This isn't just two great players playing, but a classic matchup, featuring two of the most natural talents we've ever seen. I can't wait to see what they make of each other.

Hello there

Judd Trump v Neil Robertson, you say? Don't mind if we do!

Selby finds top gear to whitewash Murphy in last 16

Mark Selby gained a measure of revenge for his narrow defeat to Shaun Murphy in the semi-finals of last year's Shanghai Masters with a heavy-scoring 6-0 whitewash of his fellow world champion in the last 16 of the elite invitational event.
Murphy hit back from 8-5 behind to win five straight frames in a 10-8 victory over Selby a year ago, but it was a different story on Tuesday morning with Masters champion Murphy mustering only 52 points in crashing out.
2011 Shanghai winner Selby seemed to grow in confidence with Murphy missing five attempts at long reds in the opening frame, an emblem of a forgettable day for the world No 14.
After punishing the Murphy errors with an opening break of 66, the theme of the match was set as Murphy broke down on 41 in the second frame by missing blue with rest before Selby compiled 52 to the final four colours.
Murphy, who later appeared to describe Selby's performance as "phenomenal" when shaking hands, then crashed into the black trying to clip the brown in trying to run safe, enabling Selby to mop up brown, blue and pink for a 2-0 lead.
It was one-way traffic from that point onwards as four-time Crucible winner Selby added 115, 81, 73 and 137 to secure a quarter-final meeting with world No. 1 Judd Trump or Neil Robertson on Thursday.
Elsewhere, Kyren Wilson showed his mettle as he edged out Si Jiahui 6-5 in a fabulous match that saw both men produce three centuries each, equalling the record amount of tons for a best-of-11 frame encounter.
Si led 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4 boosted by breaks of 55, 124, 139, 95 and 127, but 2024 world champion Wilson would not be dissuaded as runs of 120, 82, 114, 114 and 83 saw him force the decider.
Si was first among the balls in the final frame, but a horrid positional shot and a loose safety effort enabled his opponent to mop up the win with a closing effort of 97.
His reward is a quarter-final meeting with Ronnie O'Sullivan or Barry Hawkins.
Meanwhile, Xiao Guodong hit the highest break of the tournament so far as a 143 helped him defeat Lei Peifan 6-3 to secure a meeting with John Higgins in the last 16 on Wednesday morning (7am BST).
2010 Shanghai winner Ali Carter will confront Mark Williams after easing past Chinese wildcard Qiu Lei 6-1.

Result: Wilson 6-5 Si (98-22)

Wilson heading through with a superb match-winning break. A 6-5 win of epic proportions. Wilson finishes with a break of 97 to complete the victory.

Wilson 5-5 Si (54-22)

Wilson on cusp of a quarter-final meeting with Ronnie O'Sullivan or Barry Hawkins.

Wilson 5-5 Si (40-22)

Down to the final six reds in this frame, and Wilson has the match in the palm of his hands. All about controlling the nerves and the white ball.

Wilson 5-5 Si (15-22)

Suddenly, Kyren has chance to get this match won when he looked to be tumbling out. Si forced to sit and suffer.

Wilson 5-5 Si (2-22)

Would fancy him to go a long way towards winning this match at this visit. Looks a very inviting table he puts away red and blue. But he ends up playing a horror positional shot off blue. Lands on pink and doesn't have a shot to next red. And he hasn't played a great safety shot either. Wilson drops in the red to right middle.

Wilson 5-5 Si (1-6)

Both men with chances in this decider, but Kyren can't sink brown trying to roll it slow down the table. Si straight into the reds off the brown that Wilson left over a top bag, and the reds have opened up nicely. Huge chance to get this match won here and now.

Wilson 4-5 Si

Looks like we are heading for a final-frame decider in what is an absorbing battle. Si in first with 33, but Kyren responds with a brilliant clearance of 83 to the black. We are all square at 5-5. One more frame to determine the winner of this last-16 encounter.

Wilson 4-5 Si

Si set to move one frame up with a possible two to play. Both players revelling in the conditions in Shanghai. Ideal for scoring. Both men now with three centuries apiece in this contest. Which says it all. 127 from Si in the ninth frame is inspired.

Wilson 4-4 Si

The heavy scoring confronatation between Wilson and Si continues in the other last-16 match as 114, the third century of the match from Kyren, sees him level up at 4-4. Both men seeking six to reach the last eight. Going right down to the wire.

Wilson 3-4 Si

Si halts the Wilson charge as a break of 95 sees him edge clear by the odd frame in seven. Winner will take on Ronnie O'Sullivan or Barry Hawkins in the last eight on Thursday.

  • 07.00: Mark Selby 6-0 Shaun Murphy
  • 12.30: Ding Junhui v Zhang Anda
  • 12.30: Judd Trump v Neil Robertson

Result: Selby 6-0 Murphy

Selby 5-0 Murphy (137-0)

White ball is on a piece of string out there. A blistering total clearance of 137. Murphy describes Selby as "phenomenal" as they shake hands. Which is just about right. Selby will face Judd Trump or Neil Robertson in the quarter-finals.

Selby 5-0 Murphy (81-0)

Selby closing in on a second century of the match. High level of quality from the four-time Crucible winner. Has proved to be a strong front-runner against a weakened opponent.

Selby 5-0 Murphy (66-0)

Looks like Murphy will be happy to get himself back to Blighty ASAP. Nothing to see here for him. Unless he fancies a spot of sightseeing to soothe the senses. When it is not your day...

Selby 5-0 Murphy (33-0)

Lovely shot by Selby. Gets plenty of movement on the black to bring the white into the pack of reds. And opens a few more reds to continue the break. Textbook stuff from Mark.

Selby 5-0 Murphy (19-0)

Looks like we might be heading for the final moments of this contest with Selby first to the punch in the sixth frame. Meanwhile, Shaun Murphy has been left punch-drunk in his chair.

Selby 4-0 Murphy (110-10)

73 clearance from Mark on this occasion, and he moves five to the good. One more required to advance.

Selby 4-0 Murphy (76-10)

A miserable few hours for Murphy continues as Selby returns to finalise a 5-0 lead. Poor safety by Murphy is going to cost him the fifth frame. Selby looking for one more frame to secure a quarter-final meeting with Judd Trump or Neil Robertson on Thursday. In goes a corking double on red too. All going his way.

Selby 4-0 Murphy (37-10)

Well, a mistake from Selby as he breaks down on 37 in missing a pink. A reprieve for Murphy that he probably didn't see coming. But he then misses another blue to right middle. Really is struggling.

Selby 4-0 Murphy (28-9)

Mark must be sensing a weakened opponent out there. Murphy has missed far too many balls to be competitive in this contest.

Selby 4-0 Murphy (9-9)

Fine opening red by Shaun, but he continues to toil for momentum as a blue across table to left centre stays out. Gasps of disbelief from the crowd, but really has been the story of this match so far. Selby back at the baize, looking to move one from the winning post.

Wilson 1-3 Si

139 from Si is supreme in the fourth frame. Work to be done by Kyren Wilson in the second half of this match.

Wilson 1-3 Si

Si moves 3-1 clear of Wilson on the other main table. Wilson produced 120 in the third frame, but Si set to seal the deal with another century in the fourth frame.

Selby 3-0 Murphy (81-0)

No century this time for Selby, but 81 gets the job done every day of the week. A rueful smile from Selby as he comes up short of the century, but he must be thrilled with how this is working out. Murphy not at the races in Shanghai. Simple as that. 42 points in four frames tells its own story. Mark with breaks of 66, 52, 115 and 81. An enjoyable Tuesday so far.

Selby 3-0 Murphy (15-0)

Murphy fails with a red to right centre. Selby then drains a long red down table to green pocket. What a chance he has given himself here. Plum on the black too. Could really do some damage among the balls.

Selby 3-0 Murphy (0-0)

One more frame before the mid-session interval, and you suspect it is a big one for Murphy's future health in this tournament.

Selby 2-0 Murphy (115-1)

115 is the magic number for Mark, who is halfway up the hill holding a 3-0 lead. Murphy forced to digest a tough old first few frames.

Selby 2-0 Murphy (103-1)

And there it is from Selby as pink is downed with some conviction. Just the colours to come then.

Selby 2-0 Murphy (86-1)

Are we going to witness a Selby century here? 73 tons last season. Could be second of new campaign right here.

Selby 2-0 Murphy (64-1)

The Murphy malady continues as Selby splits open the pack of reds with some delight. All Selby at the moment as he continues to swarm all over the Murphy mistakes like a bee at the jam jar. Very good moments these for the Jester.

Selby 2-0 Murphy (37-1)

Murphy's vital signs in this match are not looking great at the moment. A long red is followed by a bad miss on a black off the spot. Wasn't easy, but expect a man of his stature to make those. Selby off and running again here. On a break of 37 as we speak.

Wilson 0-2 Si

Like Selby, Si holding a 2-0 lead on the other main table. 124 from the former Crucible semi-finalist in the second frame.

Selby 1-0 Murphy (79-41)

In goes brown, blue and pink from Selby, who is 2-0 ahead in the chase for the six frames he requires. Murphy in a whole world of pain there. Vital he finds a rapid response you suspect.

Selby 1-0 Murphy (68-41)

Break reaches 52, but key ball now is brown along baulk cushion for the blue. Tries to nudge out the brown, but not sure he is on it. A late error by Selby. Just safety to follow with four balls left up. But Murphy then clips the black from distance instead of brown. And leaves a free ball. Disaster for Murphy, who is going to lose the second frame.

Selby 1-0 Murphy (48-41)

Selby into the lead then heading for the final red. Taking these balls very nicely in this counter punch. Colours far from a given.

Selby 1-0 Murphy (10-41)

Murphy pouncing on a rare Selby error in sticking up a red, and continues this visit to the table with a corking long blue to the yellow bag. How good is that? Very impressive. And in goes a tricky red to right centre. But he then breaks down on 41 by missing mid-range blue with rest. That won't please his outlook. Selby back at the table.

Wilson 0-1 Si

Si Jiahui claiming the first frame of the day against Kyren Wilson on the other main table in Shanghai. A break of 55 from Si helping him along.

Selby 0-0 Murphy (80-0)

Selby 17-14 ahead on the career head-to-heads. Which tells you enough about the rivalry between the two men. Selby settling down here quicker here in the chase for six frames. 66 from the Leicester man, and he moves 1-0 ahead.

Selby 0-0 Murphy (48-0)

Murphy long game coming up short. Five attempts at reds all off the target for the Masters champion, and Selby is set to pick up the scraps. Looks like a 1-0 lead for the four-time world champion.

Selby 0-0 Murphy (14-0)

Murphy with three attempts at long reds, but three times he can't can one. Which is unusual for him. Make that four as another red down a side rail eludes him.

Selby 0-0 Murphy (14-0)

Selby slots a long red to get his day up and running. Crowd enjoyed that one. Now then. What is he going to make here. The 2011 Shanghai Masters champion straight into reds off the blue. Nice crisp shot, and he can make some progress at this visit. But can't get white out of reds in looking for next colour. Safety to follow.

Selby 0-0 Murphy (0-0)

Off we go then with the first frame of a possible 11 for a quarter-final spot. Selby with the break-off shot. Murphy goes for a long red, but nothing doing.

Five of the best from Murphy

Shaun Murphy, who lost 11-5 to Judd Trump in the 2024 final, trailed Selby 8-5 in last year's semi-final, but reeled off five straight frames to complete a rousing 10-8 victory with breaks of 134, 67, 104 and 116. He will happily accept a repeat performance this morning. Boys on baize at 7am BST this morning. Here is how he finished it off last year.
