HAWKINS SPARKLES TO SET UP FINAL WITH WILSON IN BERLIN

Barry Hawkins set up a German Masters final with world champion Kyren Wilson after reeling off six straight frames in a majestic 6-2 semi-final win over Yuan Sijun at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
Buoyed by wins over Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson, Yuan made a fast start to Saturday evening with breaks of 82 and 70 before former world finalist Hawkins assumed control with a flawless display of matchplay snooker.
Breaks of 89, 54 and a couple of 83s from the world No. 12 were well-supported by some stoic safety play and a fabulous long game as Yuan cut a deflated figure the longer the night progressed.
Wilson had earlier eased into the final with an equally dominant 6-2 semi-final win over Xiao Guodong in a one-sided semi-final.
The world champion raced 3-0 clear against the world No. 17 and never looked back with Xiao, who won his two frames with knocks of 72 and 55, struggling to find the consistent level of scoring form that had carried him to the last four.
Wilson produced breaks of 88, 100 and 57 to boost his hopes of becoming a double winner of the event after his 2019 victory in the German capital.
The winner will collect the Brandon Parker Trophy and £100,000 first prize in Sunday's best-of-19-frame final.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (83-22)

A delightful contribution from Hawkins. Has been utterly dominant since falling 2-0 behind. And he is going to get a huge ovation from the 2,500 fans inside the Tempodrom. Brown doesn't drop, but 83 gets the job done every day of the week.
"It is great to be in the final, great to be in this arena and to play in front of all these fans," said Hawkins. "I'm really looking forward to the final. Overall, I think I played pretty well. I think.
"Kyren is one of the players of the season, he is world champion and has been so consistent. I'm going to have to be at the top of my game, for sure."
Saturday's semi-final results (best of 11 frames)
Kyren Wilson 6-2 Xiao Guodong
Yuan Sijun 2-6 Barry Hawkins

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (52-22)

'The Hawk' not hanging around as break reaches 46. Not far from the winning line.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (33-22)

This should be food and drink for Barry the way he has been hitting the ball out there tonight. All about keeping concetration.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (8-22)

A superb long red by Hawkins and he holds for the black. What a sublime piece of cueing and holding for the black is quite brilliant. Chance here to get this match won.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (0-22)

Some fine pots by Yuan to reach 22. Every shot seems to be an adventure out there. Misses green and flies into the pack of reds, but somehow doesn't leave a red. Fortunate.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (0-5)

Yuan with a super pot on a long red to the yellow bag. Crowd loved that shot. Now then. What can he weigh in with here.

HAWKINS 5-2 YUAN (0-0)

Has Yuan got much left? Looking a bit forlorn in his chair. Has all ran away from him a bit in Berlin this evening.

HAWKINS 4-2 YUAN (89-34)

Hawkins is just catching fire in this semi-final. Never had much of a look in in the first two frames. But has assumed control since that juncture. A classy break of 83 from Barry. He is three up with a possible four to play.

HAWKINS 4-2 YUAN (39-34)

A big frame in the context of the match. Hawkins with a superb red to right middle. In goes the pink to left centre. And Barry then opens the pack of four reds off the pink. This looks like a fine chance to move 5-2 to the good.

HAWKINS 4-2 YUAN (13-34)

On goes Yuan to 29...fighting the good fight out there. But he can't cut in a tricky red to right centre as he returns to his seat. Probably a tad deflated with how this is working out.

HAWKINS 4-2 YUAN (13-8)

Another thumping long red is walloped down the yellow pocket by Hawkins. Simply glorious when those start going in. But Hawkins can't swerve in a red to left middle seconds later. Convinced himself it was on. It wasn't. And a really big chance presents itself to Yuan.

HAWKINS 4-2 YUAN (0-0)

A very tough matchplay battle has ensued and Hawkins has come to the fore since 2-0 behind. A bit like Selby out there tonight such has been his quality of mixing up his game. Little wonder Yuan looks a bit perturbed.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (74-31)

Simply too good from Hawkins as he lays another telling snooker. Yuan leaves a Hawkins a sighter on yellow, and he drills it home. Clears to the black, and that will do the former world finalist, who continues his recovery from 2-0 behind. Two away from the final. Very sharp in all aspects.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (54-31)

Yuan really struggling to make any break of any size. Opts for a snooker after adding five. Coming down to a yellow ball game on colours.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (54-26)

Another brilliant long red by Hawkins before he knocks the yellow safe. Two reds left up. Hawkins in a decent position to win a fourth straight frame. But he misses a red and leaves a red over a left middle.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (53-26)

Error by Hawkins presents Yuan with a chance, but difficult to win frame from here with three reds welded to cushions. Seems like he has to do quite a lot for not too much at the moment.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (53-16)

Hawkins inching towards another frame, but he makes a rare safety blunder as white comes back out from the bump of a middle jaw trying to run to baulk. Yuan can't cash in. So no major harm done.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (25-16)

Yuan not really advancing his case before Barry absolutely crushes a long red into a top bag. How well did he catch that? Opportunity for Hawkins to build a lead.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (12-11)

But he can't make good on his latest chance as a cut on a red sticks in the jaws. Bad miss. Yuan presented with his first decent chance in living memory in this match. Chances have been at a premium.

HAWKINS 3-2 YUAN (7-6)

Red to left middle just eluding Yuan as white heads back to baulk. Hawkins slams in a long red with a pinpoint pot. Caught that flush. Drops in blue and suddenly chance for Barry to embark upon a few more points in this sixth frame.

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (73-28)

Yuan playing on for snookers and gets one back as Hawkins goes round the back of it. But another long red opportunity presents itself for Hawkins second later to finalise the deal for a 3-2 lead. Yuan heading out for a break. Maybe not the worst idea.

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (42-0)

Think this is what you would call doing a job on your opponent. Experience winning the day so far as Hawkins drains a red before rolling in behind green on baulk cushion. Two misses and Hawkins is presented with chance to lead 3-2.

‘That is outrageous!’ – Hawkins lands huge fluke against Yuan

Video credit: TNT Sports

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (32-0)

Gorgeous shot by Barry to drop in a red and land on the black amid a crowded area of reds. All Hawkins at the moment. Juan forced to watch his opponent.

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (14-0)

Terrific effort by Barry to leave Yuan tucked up behind a brown in baulk. Eventually gets out of snooker, but leaves Barry with an easy opener. Chance then to go to work in this fifth frame of the night.

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (5-0)

Barry with another superb pot on a red to left middle. Completely flushed that. Not sure how much is out there at the moment. Not the most appetising table, and a red doesn't drop seconds later.

HAWKINS 2-2 YUAN (1-0)

The dangers of leaving a pot from distance all too apparent in this match. Barry tries to thread a long red home, but it comes back out from inside the jaws. Leaves a tempter along top cush, but Yuan not interested.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (92-0)

Off go the players for a quick tea break at the Tempodrom. It is as you were. 2-2 in the race to six frames.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (71-0)

There guys are right on it tonight. Anybody's guess where this is going, but Barry is right in the mix now.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (54-0)

Another probing safety shot by Bazza prompts the error by Yuan and suddenly here is the chance for Barry to restore parity at 2-2. Which he will be very happy with.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (54-0)

A mini-session of two halves in progress here. Yuan quick out of the blocks for the the first two frames, but Hawkins showing his mettle to roar right back. Looks like 2-2 incoming until Barry misses a tricky red on 54. Frame not yet dead.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (32-0)

Fair to say Barry is getting a bit of run out there. Huge fluke to start this contribution as red flies down a green pocket after he butchered a long red before he plays a brown and ends up plum on the next red via a few nice nudges. Have to take the run when it goes for you. Does the luck always even out though over course of a match? Not sure about that statement. But anyway, on goes Bazza here to 32 and counting. Balls still need potting.

HAWKINS 1-2 YUAN (0-0)

Can clearly see how important safety is out there. Both men aren't holding back at the business end of the table. Vital to get a good white. Not sure Yuan has missed a ball he's tried to pot so far.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (121-0)

A quite superb clearance of 89 from Barry and he reduces the gap to one. One frame to come before the mid-sesh.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (71-0)

A clinical piece of break-building by 'The Hawk' and he is going to register his first frame of this semi-final. Both men are certainly scoring well here.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (50-0)

So unfortunate for Yuan to smash home a brilliant long red only for white to catch another red and disappear down left-middle pocket. Run of bad luck. Hawkins will not care as he returns looking to finalise his first frame of the night.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (28-0)

Makes his way to 28, but gets too much action on the white and sees the cue ball spin back down towards baulk. Refuses to be tempted by the brown to right middle and rolls up behind yellow.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (1-0)

Some fine safety being player early in the third frame of a possible 11. Yuan can certainly handle himself on the strategic side of matters too. But a blunder by Yuan trying to come back down the right presents Barry with first chance to score at close range.

HAWKINS 0-2 YUAN (0-0)

Barry not really been seen yet as an attacking force in this match, but we know he is scoring well after his 5-3 win over Wu Yize last night. Yuan trying to keep his forward momentum before the mid-session break. And they agree on a re-rack for the third frame with the frame going nowhere.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (31-102)

A bit of a relief for Yuan as Hawkins finally sticks up a red over the yellow bag. And that is good night to this frame. Yuan with a 2-0 lead in the race to six. 70 to go with the 82 from Yuan illustrates the mood he is in.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (31-70)

Big questions being asked of Yuan, but he continues to come up with some fine escapes. Up to three now.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (31-70)

Barry showing his fighting qualities as he runs in 31 before laying Yuan in a snooker. But a fine escape using a touch of side off the baulk cushion by the Chinese player. Very fine escape.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (0-70)

Yuan looking for two more reds and colours to put this frame to bed. Talk about putting a marker down. Hawkins has played two shots in both frames and sat the rest out. A break of 70 before Yuan ties him up in a snooker.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (0-44)

Yuan continues to press on here. Not much Hawkins can do when your opponent is seeing the balls as well as this. Doesn't look like missing at moment.

HAWKINS 0-1 YUAN (0-12)

Early error by Barry as he tries to slot a long red, but ends up catching it on way back down table. And sticks up the red for Yuan to have first go at these balls.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-82)

A mid-range red eludes him on 82, but that won't do Yuan's confidence any harm. Superb start to the night from him.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-70)

What an effort this has been from Yuan. Looks like it could be a quite magical century from the talented youngster.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-51)

White ball seeing some mileage in this break. Up and down the table, but balls continue to disappear with seven reds left above board.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-42)

Yuan pulling out plenty of difficult shots in this break. Some amazing pots to keep the break going. Never really been in prime position, but doesn't matter if you don't miss when you are in.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-11)

Barry fails to prod in a long red from distance. Red comes back out, and first real chance of night falls to Yuan, who is certainly not lacking desire to score a few points at this event.

HAWKINS 0-0 YUAN (0-0)

Hawkins with the break-off shot and it is a solid one too with white clamped to the baulk cushion.

HAWKINS: BEST FANS IN WORLD in berlin

Barry Hawkins has described Berlin's snooker devotees as the "best fans in the world" following his run to the German Masters semi-finals at the 2,500-capacity Tempodrom. Hawkins produced a scoring masterclass in a 5-3 quarter-final win over Wu Yize on Friday night to set up a meeting with Yuan Sijun on Saturday evening at the celebrated event. Yuan stunned Neil Robertson 5-4 to advance. Read more here

WELCOME BACK TO THE SECOND SEMI-FINAL

A 6-2 win for world champion Kyren Wilson over Xiao Guodong that was probably as easy as it sounds earlier today at the Tempodrom. Next it is Barry Hawkins against giant-killer Yuan Sijun, who has dumped out Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson by the same 5-4 scoreline over the past two nights. Hawkins will be favourite this evening, but Yuan has not been lacking self-belief at this event. Boys on baize at 7.

WILSON STAYS ON COURSE FOR DOUBLE TITLE GLORY IN BERLIN

Kyren Wilson eased into the final of the German Masters with a dominant 6-2 semi-final win over Xiao Guodong in a one-sided semi-final at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
The world champion raced 3-0 clear against the world No. 17 and never looked back with Xiao, who won his two frames with knocks of 72 and 55, struggling to find the consistent level of scoring form that had carried him to the last four.
Wilson produced breaks of 88, 100 and 57 in a dominant display that boosted his hopes of becoming a double winner of the event after his 2019 victory in the German capital.
He will face Barry Hawkins or Yuan Sijun for the Brandon Parker Trophy and £100,000 first prize in Sunday's best-of-19 frame final.
The second semi-final gets underway at 7pm (GMT).

RESULT: WILSON 6-2 XIAO

"I've experienced this amazing crowd, this amazing atmosphere with the one table," said Wilson. "It is one of my favourite venues.
"It is my fourth time on the one-table set-up. I knew what to expect.
"I knew I could maybe put pressure on Xiao, and I knew he might be a little bit nervous as there is nowhere like this.
"It is job done and I'm into the final. That's the main thing."

Wilson pulls off lightning-quick double to 'raise the decibel level' at Tempodrom

Video credit: TNT Sports

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (59-26)

In goes the red Wilson needs to leave Xiao needing two snookers on the colours. Almost over the winning line as blue stays out. Xiao sticks up the yellow seconds later. And the concession comes. A 6-2 win for world champion Wilson. He is through to the final to face Barry Hawkins or Yuan Sijun on Sunday.

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (58-26)

Kyren playing the snooker on the final red. And it is a tough snooker. Xiao hits blue off two cushions. Free ball and Kyren knocks the black safe. Xiao hits red on his next shot.

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (36-26)

Xiao doesn't look like he can mount this recovery though as a red to right middle is flushed with too much pace. Out it pops. Once again, Wilson with chance to win frame and match.

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (29-18)

More concerned looks from Xiao as he sticks a red over a top hole. That wasn't in the plan. Is this the chance for Wilson to finally get himself into the final? And the answer is no as he misses a blue to yellow pocket. Surely he isn't feeling the tension..

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (28-18)

Another chance then for Kyren to see out this match in his favour. Would dearly love to get the job done now, but he is out of position after bagging a black along top cush. The final frame is the hardest to win. Just a safety from Kyren.

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (16-17)

Kyren back at table after Xiao tries and fails to slot a long red. Wasn't far off, but sets up the world champion. Only 16 though as a thin cutback red is caught too thin. Another chance for Xiao, but he quickly loses the white ball in tapping home a long red over a top pocket.

WILSON 5-2 XIAO (0-17)

A 55 break from Xiao is very nice indeed. Took those balls very well. On we go to an eighth frame. And a sublime long red by Xiao is just what he was looking for. Lands ideally on black. So chance to score straight off the bat. But only 17 as he quickly loses the white.

WILSON 5-1 XIAO (13-55)

Xiao battling to extend this semi-final to another frame despite being well off it so far. Kyren will be frustrated at not putting this match away already. You really don't want your opponent to be hanging about out there. Funny things can happen. In goes the red Xiao needs to win his second frame of the match.

WILSON 5-1 XIAO (13-17)

Chances for both men early in the seventh frame, but Kyren back at table. Alan McManus unsure about the future prospects for Xiao. "I think his race is run in this match. That is the vibe I'm getting," said the former Masters holder on comms. Despite that, Wilson has only made 13 points from three visits to the table. That is a bit shoddy from the world champion and he knows it. And Xiao plucks out a fine red to regain access.

WILSON 5-1 XIAO (0-0)

Not sure if there is any way back for Xiao in this semi-final on today's form. Hasn't really been at it so far.

WILSON 4-1 XIAO (72-8)

A stunning cross double on a red to finalise the deal for Kyren. Crowd loving that, and it is a 5-1 advantage for the world champion in Berlin. Needs one more frame to reach Sunday's showpiece final.

WILSON 4-1 XIAO (62-8)

Looks like Kyren is set to move four up with a possible five to play. Another frame-winning break in the bank. 57 as he misses a red. Xiao 54 behind with a possible 51 remaining.

WILSON 4-1 XIAO (26-8)

This is an obvious chance for Wilson to press home his advantage and punish the Xiao error. Nothing really safe to trip Kyren up here after Xiao splashed the pack.

WILSON 4-1 XIAO (10-8)

Superb plant by Xiao to the right middle. Not sure Kyren planned to leave that, but Xiao picked it out and tweaked it home. First chance of the sixth frame falls to the world No. 17. But he then unearths another unwanted plant as a red disappears from slotting blue. A rueful look from Xiao and Kyren is back at the baize.

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (69-41)

A concluding break of 48 is enough for Kyren to punish the missed pink by Xiao with the rest. Suddenly the lead is back at three. Wilson two frames away from a spot in the final.

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (46-41)

Xiao with a missed pink using the rest. That could be a key moment in this match. Kyren returns to table aiming to produce the winning thrust to regain his three-frame advantage. In goes black and the final red. Looks like a 4-1 incoming with just colours to come.

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (21-34)

Xiao almost sees a blue stay out to right middle. Thought about staying out before dropping and white into the reds too. Big visit to the table for Xiao in the context of this contest.

'No look, no problem' - Wilson delights Berlin crowd with no-look black

Video credit: TNT Sports

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (21-11)

Kyren being slowed down here a bit somewhat after his early charge. Misses a black along top cushion to hand his opponent more hope in Berlin.

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (17-10)

A bit of tension in the arena as Xiao is forced to escape from a snooker on the third occasion after being warned he can hit a red full ball by the referee. He doesn't seem to agree, but regroups to make a good connection after two misses. Kyren on top tactically as he then drains a fine red from distance.

WILSON 3-1 XIAO (8-10)

Boys back on the baize as Wilson has a go at a long red, but well off the potting angle. Hit right across the white there. Also picks up another nail from the floor. Xiao cans a red with the rest. But can only make 10 before running safe.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-119)

A 72 clearance from Xiao is just what was needed, and that will give him a skip in his step as he heads for a cuppa at the half-time break. 15-minute breather for the players.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-59)

Another blunder by Kyren leaves Xiao chance of a mid-range red. And this is surely going to be the first frame on the scoreboard from the Chinese player. Won it in three scoring visits, but all that matters is winning it.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-47)

"This is a bit more like it," says Alan McManus in comms as Xiao splashes open the reds with blue, but not ideal on the next red. So just the safety to follow as he takes his medicine and rolls in behind the pink.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-25)

A second visit to the table for Xiao is opened with a cracking pot on a red to left centre. Stuns the white to hold for the black. Very nice from Xiao. Looking to move further ahead here in this crunch fourth frame.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-24)

Xiao trying to open the reds off the brown, but misses the pack on way down the table. Looks to the skies. Just the safety to follow from the Wuhan Open champion.

WILSON 3-0 XIAO (0-19)

Finally, a chance for Xiao to get hand on table and piece together a few points. Has largely been shut out for the first three frames, but here is a definite chance after Wilson fails to hole a cut on a red across to green bag. Far from easy. Xiao is also a heavy scorer when the mood takes him.

WILSON 2-0 XIAO (128-5)

An even 100 from Kyren Wilson. Looks away as the black disappears. Wilson all over this match like a rash. And full of smiles too. Sixth century of the week from the world champion.

WILSON 2-0 XIAO (86-5)

Chance of a century for Kyren in this third frame. Xiao just left as a spectator really alongside the other 2,500 fans enjoying the action at the Tempodrom. Vital frame coming up you suspect in this fourth frame for Xiao's future health in this semi-final.

WILSON 2-0 XIAO (49-5)

Xiao not enjoying the run of the ball in this semi-final so far. Sees a red come back down the table and stick near the green bag. Kyren drops in the red before slotting a tough cut on pink to left centre. "Kyren is super aggressive out there," says 1994 Masters champion Alan McManus on comms. He is dominating the scoring, but also the mood of this match so far.

WILSON 2-0 XIAO (28-5)

Kyren is bang on the money here so far. Xiao misses a tough red to a yellow pocket and Kyren drops one in across the table from mid-range. Looks to be moving through the gears nicely until he slips up in missing a tough red along a top cushion on 28. Xiao picks out a plant on red before rolling up behind the green.

'A new one on me' - Nail under carpet stops play between Wilson and Xiao

Video credit: TNT Sports

WILSON 1-0 XIAO (88-1)

Kyren hardly putting a foot wrong with a very, very attractive scoring game taking great shape in Berlin. Lovely 88 from 'The Warrior' and Xiao has a bit to digest here. Early days, but Wilson is in stroke at the Tempodrom.

WILSON 1-0 XIAO (26-1)

Not sure Xiao has fully settled out there yet. Takes on a tough pink to right middle. Which looked as tough as it was. Nowhere near the pot. Wilson wasting no time in getting on with his business here. Really is a much faster player these days, and very aggressive too. Which makes him a dangerous animal.

WILSON 1-0 XIAO (0-1)

Kyren is 7-2 clear on the career head-to-heads, but Xiao did win their previous meeting with a 5-4 victory in the last 32 of the Wuhan Open earlier this season, an event he would progress to win.

WILSON 0-0 XIAO (68-1)

Very unfortunate for Xiao as a red dives down a middle bag heading back to baulk. Not sure how that has dropped at that pace. But frame is put to bed as Kyren drops in a long red. A 1-0 lead for the world champion in Berlin.

WILSON 0-0 XIAO (48-7)

But missing a pink along top cush isn't good news for Xiao. Great long red, but can only add five more points as Kyren returns to table looking to tie matters up. Lead extending to 41 with two reds left up.

WILSON 0-0 XIAO (38-1)

Think you have seen it all in snooker, and then something else happens. Scoreboard isn't working in the arena and now Kyren has called in the carpet fitters after feeling a nail under the carpet on his shot. Quite right too. Anyway, panic over, brief delay and he can continue this break. Golden chance by his standards to weigh in with a big break here. But he somehow misses a pink using the rest on 38. So not fatal for Xiao.

WILSON 0-0 XIAO (2-1)

Cries of 'Come on Kyren' from the Berlin crowd. They like a winner in Germany, and there is no bigger winner than the world champion. Chance for Wilson to make a few after Xiao sticks a red over a top pocket.

WILSON 0-0 XIAO (0-1)

Welcome to a teeming Temopdrom. Over 2,000 fans inside this wonderful venue in Berlin with world champion Kyren Wilson up against Wuhan Open champion Xiao in the opening semi-final. This could be a corker of a match between two players who in top form this season.
