Hatton holds off Rahm to win at Valderrama

Legion XIII's Tyrrell Hatton held off a run from home favourite Jon Rahm to win LIV Golf Andalucia by two strokes.
After dominating the first three rounds, bogeys on 10 and 12 saw him briefly lie level with Sergio Garcia and Abraham Ancer.
He recovered to produce a fine iron shot to set up a birdie on the next hole and two more back-to-back on 16 and 17.
Even more impressive, this was achieved playing in the group behind Rahm who had the crowd roaring, first with an eagle on the fourth, and then after leaving his tee shot on 15 less than a foot from the hole - before also birdieing the 17th.
The two Legion XIII players produced fine recovery shots on the 18th to save pars which was enough for Hatton to win with something to spare.
The challenge of Garcia fell away with a bogey on the 16th which saw Ancer move ahead of him into third.
Thomas Detry was second overnight but his three-over round left him in joint-fifth, which sees him miss qualification for the Open Championship.
Unsurprisingly, Legion XIII topped the Teams leaderboard with a collective 7-under par, six ahead of 4Aces.

Shot of a champion!

Rahm chips to a few feet which should set up a par - and even if he misses that, he'll win today.

Good recovery

Hatton's low shot flew through the green but it was stopped by the thick rough.

Hatton in the woods

It's not over, as Peter Alliss might have said.

Rahm puts huge birdie within inches of hole

It deserved a birdie, but now Hatton only needs a bogey on the 18th to secure victory.

Hatton sinks birdie to surely seal win

He had the same bunker shot as Rahm and though didn't hit it quite as well, he sunk a six-footer to go two clear.

Rahm hits through gap in trees

It is a good recovery on the second to the edge of the green, but it is unlikely to provide the birdie he needs to put pressure on Hatton.

Ancer has the clubhouse lead

His eight-under currently has him in third place, but will not be enough to get victory.

Rahm makes a birdie

It reduces Hatton's lead to one. He wasn't too happy with his bunker shot, which left a tricky four-footer, but he put it away.

Has that won it for Hatton?

While Garcia is set to lose a shot, Hatton sinks a fine 20-foot putt on the 16th, to put him back two in front.

Bryson guns on show

Rahm second on 17 almost great

Near a tree with a fly lie he landed it on the green but it just ran into the bunker. Still, a good chance for birdie.

Garcia's second hits tree

This is almost certainly where his challenge for the title will end.

Ancer misses chance to join Hatton in lead

The 17th is the crucial hole. Rahm plays it next, then Hatton and Garcia. Ancer just ahead played a fine bunker shot to leave himself a four-footer but put it to the left of the hole. Garcia will need his trademark escapology on 16 to avoid a bogey though after a wild drive.

Hard-earned pars

Hatton had a tough lie next to the greenside bunker and did well to leave a four-footer which he put away. Garcia had to putt from the fringe and also needed a tricky second putt for par.

The roof comes off!

Rahm with an unbelievable tee shot on the 15th giving himself a tap in for birdie. He joins Garcia and Ancer one behind Hatton. The crowd is going crazy!

What a response!

Hatton puts his second shot on the 13th to three feet and now is one shot in front with five to play.

Hatton drops a shot, three share lead

Hatton had another long-ish par putt, this one from 15-feet, but couldn't convert this time. With Garcia, just, making a five-foot par putt and Ancer getting to eight-under, we now have three up top.

Wiped its feet!

Hatton's ten-foot putt on 11 went for a ride around the hole before eventually dropping. Garcia also saved a par with a tricky four-footer.

Johnson sinks a monster

He left himself a 30-footer at least and if it hadn't have hit the hole it may have gone off the green, but it bounced up in the air and went down the plughole.

Backwards to go forwards

Hatton drops shot on tenth

He left himself a 12 foot-putt which he just rolled right. Garcia couldn't make him pay missing his birdie putt.

Hatton with brilliant second shot on nine

And he rolls home a two-foot putt to put him back to ten-under and a two-shot lead, as Garcia just misses a long birdie putt.

Rahm leaves par putt just short

Poor approach play left him a near 20-foot putt to save par and it just ran out of gas before the hole.

Garcia now level with Rahm

And just a shot behind Hatton. Detry missed his putt and at five-under is surely out of contention.

Bunker shots set up birdies

Both Detry and Garcia found the beach from their drives on eight, but each set themselves up for a likely birdie. Detry about eight feet away and Garcia half that.

Great par putt from Sergio

At least a 15-foot putt which Garcia had to sink - and he did. Going three shots back of lead would probably have been too much to make up.

Hatton drops shot on six

His lead drops to one over Rahm now after sliding a 12-foot par putt past the hole.

Finally a birdie for Garcia

He is now three behind Hatton and one back of Rahm.

Ancer gains then drops a shot

He makes a two on the fourth, but then a five on the par-four fifth, to return to six-under.

Putts not going in for last grouping

Whereas Rahm made eagle in front of them, Hatton, Detry and Garcia all missed birdie putts on the fourth.

Eagle from Rahm!

His second shot left him a seven-footer for a three on the par-five fourth and slotted it home. What pressure on Hatton now with the home favourite on his tail.

What a start from Lahiri

Three straight birdies has him up to five-under and a share of sixth place.

Great second from Garcia not finished off

A low down-wind second deserved a birdie but you missed a six-footer.

Hatton just misses birdie on first

His ten-footer just touched the left-hand side of the hole but wouldn't drop. Detry dropped a shot so Hatton now has a three-shot lead.

Rahm and Ancer start with birdies

Rahm tapped in for his three and Ancer also got a birdie on the second. They both join Garcia on six-under.

Magnificent second to the first for Rahm

A certain birdie to start which will put him level with Garcia who is about to tee off.
