Hatton enjoys two-shot lead at halfway stage
Sharing the lead overnight, Tyrrell Hatton was two-over par for his second round after 10 holes but two birdies and an eagle down the stretch saw him end Round 2 two shots clear.
Scott Vincent began the round level with Hatton and, as the Englishman initially fell away, a level-par front nine kept the Zimbabwean in front until Cameron Smith's four-straight birdies gave him the lead at five-under before an eagle on 11 took Thomas Detry to six-under.
As these players faltered in the closing holes, Hatton became stronger with a monster putt on 13 and then a 'Texas Wedge' from off the green resulting in a three on the par-five 17th.
After struggling on the first day, Jon Rahm produced an equal-round best 67 - along with Talor Gooch (three-under) and Harold Varner III (two-under). Rahm finished up on two-under, alongside David Puig, with compatriot Garcia on three-under so home crowds could have a lot to cheer over the weekend.
The action continues live on TNT Sports and HBO Max tomorrow, with coverage beginning at 11.30 UK Time.

Hatton finishes with two-shot lead
While his playing partners struggled, he rolled in a three-footer for par, to go into third round two in front.
Bad end for Detry and Vincent
Both hit bogeys on the 18th dropping to four-under and two-under respectively.
Strange round for Smith
Three over par, if you take away the four birdies he got from 8-11. But you can't do that. He is also on three-under.
Garcia ends on three-under
Four birdies today, but also three bogeys, leaving himself with a one-under par 70.
Rahm ends round with a 67
And he will start moving day tomorrow on two-under with eyes on leaving himself a launching pad for a victory charge on Sunday.
Hatton takes the lead!
Detry has a fine attempt at a putt from off the green and just sends it left of the hole. But Hatton was on the green for two and sinks a 15-footer to leap-frog him and take the lead.
Garcia birdies, Smith bogeys
Both would have seen the 17th as an opportunity but while Garcia chipped close from off the green for an easy birdie, Smith missed a ten-footer to the right. Both are now three-under par.
Rahmbo is rumbling
He sinks a downhill left-to-right putt on the eighth to move to two-under and joint fifth.
Bogeys for Detry, Vincent and Garcia
They drop to five, three and two-under respectively after finding tough spots off the green. Detry had to hole and eight-footer to avoid a double.
Rahm is finally under-par
He holes a monster on the seventh to go to three-under for the day and one-under for the tournament.
Back-to-back birdies for Vincent
You wait all round for a birdie...you know the rest. He slots home a tricky right-to-left downhiller to move into a share of second.

Welcome fillip for Hatton
It wasn't quite DeChambeau's effort yesterday but a putt of more than 30 feet was sunk by the Buckinghamshire man, bringing him back up to four-under - level with Smith in second.
Smith's run ends with a bogey
After four birdies, he leaves himself a 10-footer for par but leaves it left of the hole.
Two bogeys in three for Vincent
His recovery play and putting kept him level par in the front line but it wasn't going to be enough all round and he has now dropped back to two-under.
Almost an albatross!
But Detry will settle for a tap-in eagle which gives him the lead. You wait a day and a half for movement at the top of the leaderboard and then you get two new leaders one after the other.
Four in a row!
Scott Vincent is finally knocked off the top of the leaderboard as Smith rolls in five foot putt for his fourth consecutive birdie.
Smith joins leaders
A run of three straight birdies from the eighth hole has made it three men in top spot.

Vincent saves par again
He has been closer to losing shots than gaining them but he has been remarkably resilient.
Hole in one!
It wasn't the Day 1 Virginia winner Lucas Herbert wanted, but this helps his Day 2.
Change at the top
Vincent makes an up and down, with a 12 foot putt saving par, but Hatton missed a longer one left to drop a shot. Puig also rescued a par after being left in a perilous position from his tee shot.
Detry joins leaders
He his his tee shot at six to ten feet and then slots the putt for his first birdie of the ay
Leader gets creative
Scott Vincent has pars through the first four holes this morning, but that's not to say things have been dull around the green.

Garcia back to three-under
A short putt at the fifth, gives him his second birdie of the round. Hopefully he stays at three-under a bit longer this time.
AK with birdie, but could've been more
Shot lost is gained
Hatton recovers from his bogey with a fine approach and then 12-foot putt to go back into a joint lead.
Hatton back to three-under
He hated his 12-foot putt as soon as he made contact as it went a couple of holes right of where it was intended. Vincent now in sole possession of the lead.
Shot gained is dropped
Garcia leaves himself a long putt for a par-three on the third but leaves it to the right.
Garcia one off the lead
He perfectly judged a left-to-right 20 foot putt on Hole 2 to move level with Detry. The wind specialist, Grace has also joined them one behind the two leaders.
Hatton so close to birdie on 1st
It would have given him the sole lead but the 15-footer just lipped out.
Rahm with early birdie
He had a poor day yesterday so started on two-over, but chipped from off the green to leave himself a tap-in for a four on the par-five 11th.
We are underway...
And home star David Puig starts on hole 1 with a big slice into the rough off the right fairway.
Shotgun start begins in five minutes...
Wind specialist Grace fancies his chances
South African Branden Grace is two shots off the lead and feels he can make inroads over the next couple of days.
