Laurie Canter is keen to learn from the experience of Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood as he teams up with the British "legends" at the Majesticks in LIV Golf this year.
With decades of combined experience at the highest level, including several Ryder Cups, Westwood and Poulter bring a pedigree that Canter hopes will help guide the team.
Canter, who finished seventh in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, has joined forces with Westwood, Poulter and Sam Horsfield for the 2026 season, determined to help the Majesticks improve on last season’s 11th-place finish.
Preparing for his third season in LIV Golf, which will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+, Canter believes the experience of Poulter and Westwood can play a key role in helping him take his game to the next level.

"I’m excited to show what I can do," said Canter, who finished 28th in the standings in 2022. "Obviously I was part of the original league in 2022 and 2023, and I probably left annoyed, feeling like I hadn’t shown the best version of myself. I’ve had a couple of really strong years playing on the DP World Tour.
"I’m coming back here feeling like I’ve got something to prove in this league. That’s certainly a big motivating factor for me.
"I want the Majesticks to get to the level where they should be, which is certainly a top-half table team. I think with what we’ve got at our disposal and the form that I’ve shown over the last couple of years, we can do some really great stuff in the league.
"Lee and Ian are legends - proven winners with amazing track records in majors and Ryder Cups. Sam’s still a young player, but he’s got an amazing CV."
On where Poulter and Westwood can help his game, Canter added: "Ultimately, we’re responsible for our own games. I’m in this spot because of the golf I’ve played, and the team have drafted me to play at - or exceed - the level I was playing on the European Tour.
"Where I think guys like Ian and Lee can help are in the little things, the unknowns in golf. It might be up to me to ask the right questions to get the best information out of them. The thing they have that I don’t is their knowledge of playing worldwide golf, which is what LIV is - it goes to every different region in the world, and they’ve got the experience and have probably won in all of them.
"They’ve won in the States, in Asia, in Europe and Australia. That’s a wide variety of grass and turf conditions, firmness, wind - all that kind of stuff. It’s up to me as a player if I want to use their brains and ask the right questions."
Alongside the experience of Poulter and Westwood, Horsfield also provides a key piece of the Majesticks’ puzzle. Canter believes this combination of proven winners and emerging talent gives the team the potential to surprise a few opponents.
"The Majesticks finished 11th last year and I don’t think that’s acceptable for a team that has this much at their disposal and, frankly, the players that are in it," said Canter.
"I’m not going to say a position, but it’s going to be a hell of a lot better than 11th. And, if it’s not, then we’ve really got to look at ourselves, find out why, and change and evolve as we go through the year. But I think this team can surprise a few people this year for sure."
Canter says LIV Golf is stacked with top talent, highlighting Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, Cam Smith and Dustin Johnson as players to watch.
He has also been impressed by the younger players coming through.
"They’re just finding their feet in professional golf and they’re going to make some big waves and continue to impress in the league," he said.
As a fully British team, Canter is particularly looking forward to the LIV stop at JCB Golf & Country Club, on July 23-26.
"That’s a pretty unique and exciting thing for us. That’s the one we have circled in our diaries as somewhere we want to turn up and be the best version of ourselves," he said.
From a spectacle point of view, he added: "It’s hard to look past Adelaide. It’s a good window to put all the things that LIV does well - how they engage fans, things they do in and around the event to make it what it is."
Canter also highlighted the challenge and opportunity of playing on courses around the world.
"We’re going to a couple of amazing venues in the States, which I’m really excited about.
"I love Sentosa as a golf course; it’s a pretty special place. But there’s so many amazing events and to have the chance to play around the world means we’re very lucky."
