Petrov looks like he'll be stronger in this second lap of his run - half a second up on his first split time already.

1:28.981 to get us started from Karthikeyan's HRT, Liuzzi just a shade quicker, and Petrov in the more competitive Renault only marginally better.

HRT's Karthikeyan out on a quick lap now - the backmarkers will be wary of the 107% rule this weekend given Red Bull's pace. If they are 107% outside the leading qualifying time they will not be able to race on Sunday.

Lotus were hoping that their upgrade package to the car would mean that they would be competing with the likes of Williams and Force India this weekend - this will be the acid test. Practice was not entirely convincing.
