HAVE RUSSIA GOT SIX APPEAL? The last five host teams who have been involved in a World Cup quarter final have made it to the last four - that's Italy in 1990, France in 1998, South Korea in 2002, Germany in 2006 and Brazil in 2014. Can Russia follow suit?

THIRD TIME LUCKY? This match means the Croatians will have met the host nation in three of their five World Cup campaigns. Vatreni lost 2-1 to France in the 1998 semi finals and 3-1 to Brazil in the opening match of the tournament four years ago.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic said: "This is a completely different game and opportunity for both teams. If you beat Spain, then you deserve your place among the eight best teams in the World Cup. It will not be easy for us to play in front of so many local fans, but my players do this every week in the best world leagues."

Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov: "I am trying not to get distracted. If I get a newspaper I will read a headline. Criticism is good but I believe we should have our eyes and ears open... You say people are euphoric: we, the people in the team, are not the people who should be euphoric."

It's a change apiece in terms of the starting XIs. Russia bring back their leading marksman, Denis Cheryshev as they opt for a 4-2-3-1 system. Yuri Zhirkov drops out injured (calf). Croatia replace Marcelo Brozovic with Andrej Kramaric.

Croatia were the favourites against Denmark, but needed Danijel Subasic to somehow upstage Kasper Schmeichel during the spot kicks to prevail.

Both teams reached this stage via the drama of a penalty shoot-out in the last 16. Russia produced the shock of the round as the hosts knocked out Spain.
