The task for Iran is a straightforward, if not a simple, one. They must beat Portugal if they are to make the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time. That will be a tall order.

The match is under way in Saransk! It's Iran against Portugal in this World Cup clash.

Guedes has dropped out of the Portuguese lineup for this game. He wasn't that effective as a false nine in the first two games and so Silva has been brought in to provide more threat.

Iran will need to show more of a cutting edge against Portugal than they did against Spain. That was the one thing that cost them against the 2010 World Cup winners a few days ago.

Ronaldo has been on fire at this World Cup so far. He has four goals from two group games. The Real Madrid forward looks very sharp and he could grab a couple more tonight.

Iran have been one of the surprise packages of this tournament so far. They beat Egypt in their opening game and then put up a real fight against Spain. They could spring a surprise here.

The big team news for Portugal is that Silva has come into the starting lineup for this match. The AC Milan striker scored nine goals for the Selecao over the course of qualifying.
