Record eight-time UEFA Women's Champions League winners Lyon have not won the tournament since 2022, but are likely to reach the semi-final stage after winning 2-0 at Bayern Munich on Tuesday in the first leg of their quarter-final. The French side had goalscorers Tabitha Chawinga and Melchie Dumornay to thank for their victory, ahead of the second leg that will take place in France next week.

Lyon secured a 2-0 win at Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final.
The record eight-time winners of the competition are looking to win it for the first time since 2022 and took a huge step to securing their last-four spot in this year's edition.
Bayern, meanwhile, are yet to win the trophy, and face a difficult battle to get back in contention in the tie after the home defeat on Tuesday evening, shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+
The visitors had goals from Tabitha Chawinga and Melchie Dumornay to thank for their victory, with Chawinga opening the scoring on 35 minutes.
An error from Bayern defender Linda Sembrant allowed Chawinga to burst through and aim a shot into the right corner.
While the Germans’ keeper Maria Luisa Grohs was unable to stop that effort, she produced a string of vital stops to keep her side in the match.

Grohs stopped a penalty from Lindsey Heaps after Ellie Carpenter was fouled by Bayern skipper Sarah Zadrazil, but she was unable to do anything about Dumornay’s effort on 65 minutes.
The Lyon attacker swapped passes with Heaps to make room for a shot in the box, and sent in a low effort to double her side’s advantage.

Bayern were on a 14-game undefeated streak at home in all competitions stretching back to May 2024, but produced just a single shot on target against Lyon, with the French side now heavy favourites to get through to the last four.
In the day's other quarter-final, Arsenal were defeated 2-0 at Real Madrid in challenging conditions.
