RONALDO HITS EQUALISER AS PORTUGAL RECOVER TO SINK SPAIN ON PENALTIES
Ruben Neves converted the winning spot-kick as a dogged Portugal defeated defending champions Spain 5-3 on penalties to win the UEFA Nations League for a second time.
European champions Spain twice led through Martín Zubimendi (21') and Mikel Oyarzabal (45') at Munich's Allianz Arena, but Portugal refused to buckle with fine finishes from the outstanding Nuno Mendes (26') and captain Cristiano Ronaldo (61') - his 138th goal for his country - dragging the 2019 winners level at 2-2.
With extra-time failing to produce another goal, it came down to penalties with Álvaro Morata seeing the eighth penalty saved by Diogo Costa before Neves drilled home Spain's fifth successful penalty to complete a merited victory for Roberto Martinez's men.
The finish denies Spain the chance to win a major trophy for the third straight year after they defeated Croatia 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw to win their first Nations League in Rotterdam two years ago before edging England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin last summer.
But 2016 European champions Portugal become the first country to claim a second Nations League crown following their 1-0 win over Netherlands in the inaugural event in Porto six years ago.

ISCO WITH SOME SUPREME CLOSE CONTROL
The Real Betis midfielder with superb quick feet before he is clipped late by Bruno Fernandes. All getting very ragged out there. Looks like we are going to require pens to settle this final.
