The big day is almost here for West Ham United as the Hammers prepare to take on Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday. David Moyes will lead his side out in Prague looking to clinch a first European trophy since 1965 and secure a Europa League place for next season. Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A and have not won a European competition in 62 years.

Among greats - Moyes on his legacy if West Ham win a European trophy

History beckons for West Ham United as they taken on Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in Prague on Wednesday.
It is West Ham’s first appearance in a European final for 47 years since a team with the likes of Billy Bonds, Trevor Brooking and Keith Robson faced Anderlecht in the 1976 Cup Winners' Cup.
David Moyes has led the Hammers on an incredible adventure in Europe’s tertiary cup competition, going unbeaten after playing 14 games to reach the final.
The Europa Conference League has proved to be a saving grace for West Ham after a lacklustre domestic campaign that resulted in a 14th-place Premier League finish.
It makes this match all the more important for the Hammers, as only a victory will secure European football again for next season with the Europa Conference League winners guaranteed a place in the Europa League.
It could also be captain Declan Rice's last game for the club with strong speculation that he will be sold this summer.
Vincenzo Italiano’s team also finished outside of the European qualification spots in their domestic league after coming eighth in Serie A. The Viola did end Serie A on a high though following a 3-1 victory over Sassuolo on Friday.
The Europa Conference League final takes place at the Fortuna Arena in Prague on June 7.

Hammers hoping to go one step further

West Ham had a memorable run to the Europa League semi-finals last season, but were ultimately beaten 3-1 on aggregate by eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.
Their last appearance in a European final may have been back in 1976, but you have to go back to 1965 to find the Hammers’ last victory in such a game.
A 2-0 victory over 1860 Munich in the Cup Winners' Cup final that year thanks to a brace from Alan Sealey remains their most recent success.
Speaking to the media ahead of the final, Moyes said: “This is the first time we’ve done a European final and it feels special. It feels like a really big occasion. We want to make sure we’ve covered everything and we go into the game in the best possible condition."

Fiorentina aiming to end 62-year wait

Fiorentina’s wait for a European trophy is even longer than West Ham’s after most recently winning the Cup Winners' Cup in 1961.
Speaking to uefa.com ahead of the final, Italiano said: "Personally, I am very glad to be competing in a final and to have the chance to lift a trophy. It has been my dream since I was first appointed Fiorentina coach and understood we had the potential to achieve such great results.
"This was my first time [coaching] in a European competition, the first time that the weekly training was a little different. For some of the players, this was their first time in Europe as well, and this is never easy. However, we managed to adapt.
"We started to prepare well for matches despite the difficulty of having fewer training sessions. Winning allowed us to work with enthusiasm, so we kept moving forward, knowing that we could make it to the end. And this final is worth all our hard work and sacrifice.
“I don’t think we’re necessarily doing anything different because this is the first one we’ve done, but I do feel that our experience in the semi-final last year will give us an indication of what to expect.
“Overall, I think the players are in a really good place and are getting ready. Mentally, I see them in a good place and I hope that proves to be the case.”
