Manchester United make sensational last-minute bid for Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres in transfer bombshell, player prefers Gunners - reports
Manchester United have reportedly made a last-minute swoop for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, hoping to usurp Arsenal in their hunt for a striker. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, United have tabled a bid slightly higher than that of Arsenal, who were said to be in advanced talks to sign the Sweden international. Despite this, it is thought Gyokeres only wants to sign for Arsenal.

Manchester United have reportedly tabled a shock last-minute bid for Viktor Gyokeres, with the Sweden international's move to Arsenal in jeopardy.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the offer, which would see Gyokeres reunited with manager Ruben Amorim should it go through, is higher than the one Arsenal made earlier this summer.
Despite multiple outlets claiming the north London club were in advanced talks to sign the striker, A Bola reported that the deal was in danger of "imminent collapse" with the two clubs struggling to reach an agreement over the fee structure.
Gyokeres hit the headlines earlier in July by refusing to train until his wishes to leave were granted. The 27-year-old was subsequently fined for missing training.
Maisfutebol, another Portuguese media outlet, claimed that Gyokeres' father was moved to tears as he believes that his son's prospective move to Arsenal looks increasingly likely to fall through.
But A Bola has stated that Gyokeres is "adamant" that he wants to play for Arsenal and continue to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
"A last-minute bombshell in the market, with a major twist. In a supersonic raid on Sporting and taking advantage of the apparent divorce in negotiations with Arsenal, Manchester United have tabled a bid to secure the signing of Viktor Gyokeres and are very close to an agreement with The Lions," reads the report.

"According to A Bola, the offer made by Ruben Amorim's team will be slightly higher than Arsenal's and will always be between €70 and €80 million.
"Gyokeres' wishes are well known: he wants to play for Arsenal, fight for the Premier League and play in the UEFA Champions League. And he remains adamant about his choice.
"But at the moment, a reunion with Ruben Amorim, who coached him at Sporting and with whom he won the league title, seems a likely scenario, albeit a difficult one, given the player's desire [or lack thereof]. A new battle in the never-ending negotiating war?"
According to multiple reports, Sporting have insisted that Arsenal stump up more money in immediate add-ons in order to complete the deal.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano confirmed A Bola's report that Gyokeres only has eyes for Arsenal.
"Viktor Gyokeres maintains his clear position despite links with Man United and more clubs: he wants Arsenal," wrote Romano on X.
"Total priority to AFC project since June and no change of plans with agent Hasan Cetinkaya, on the same page with Gyokeres."
