Manchester United could land Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson in shock summer transfer move - Paper Round

A shock summer transfer could take place with Manchester United said to be stepping up their interest in Nicolas Jackson having met the Chelsea forward's agent. Elsewhere, The Red Devils could hijack Arsenal's deal for Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres as negotiations continue, and Manchester City's £35 million valuation of James McAtee is proving a stumbling block to potential suitors.

Man Utd meet with Jackson's agent

Manchester United are reported to have held a meeting with Nicolas Jackson’s agent as they step up their pursuit of a striker.
The Mirror and BBC Sport claim Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim sees the Chelsea forward as a potential candidate to boost his attacking options.
"Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Nicolas Jackson’s agent to explore the possibility of a transfer for the Chelsea striker," states the Mirror.
"Amorim wants a centre-forward to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just 10 goals in 52 games across all competitions last season. And United are scouring the market for opportunities, with BBC Sport reporting that a meeting has taken place with Jackson’s agent Ali Barat.
"Jackson suddenly finds himself in a difficult position at Chelsea, who have signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer. Both made positive impressions during The Blues’ successful Club World Cup campaign and Jackson is considering his options.
"Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea are not particularly keen to sell the Senegal international. They have slapped a £100m price tag on the 24-year-old, who was Enzo Maresca’s primary centre-forward as they finished fourth and won the Conference League in 2024/25."

Man Utd could hijack Arsenal move for Gyokeres

The Sweden international has been strongly linked with a move to The Emirates, but the deal is now said to be "at risk", which could allow United to swoop in.
"Arsenal’s failure to agree terms with Sporting Lisbon for Viktor Gyokeres could come back to bite them after Manchester United made a last-gasp attempt to hijack the deal," reads the article.
"The Gunners have been in negotiations with Sporting for some time over the structure of the transfer fee for Gyokeres and may have left the door open for their Premier League rivals.
"SIC now reports that Arsenal’s deal is ‘increasingly at risk’. They say Arsenal’s fixed offer is set at €63.5m (£55m), which rises to €70m (£60m) because Gyokeres' agent waived his €6.5m (£5.6m) commission. And that rigid structure is not acceptable for Sporting.
"Record, meanwhile, says United have now dropped a new bid on the table which is worth between €70-80million (£60-69m). The newspaper notes that Gyokeres - who played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting - still only wants to join Arsenal, but it is still a curveball in the transfer saga."

Man City demand £35m for McAtee

Manchester City's valuation of James McAtee is proving a stumbling block for the England Under-21 captain’s legion of suitors, claims The Telegraph.
Premier League duo Nottingham Forest and West Ham United, and Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt are all thought to be interested in the player.
The outlet states: "Most of McAtee’s suitors had been hoping to strike a deal around the £20 million to £25 million mark for the player, who has entered the final year of his contract at City. But City are thought to be holding out for around £35m, meaning there is a significant gap in valuations.
"McAtee’s admirers have not been deterred and Forest are thought to be among the clubs who could advance their interest in the City attacking midfielder in the days ahead. But there will be some significant negotiating to be done to strike a deal.
"City sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea for £42.5m in 2023 and have been using that as something of a benchmark on their pricing for McAtee.
"McAtee spent some time in Germany recently to meet Frankfurt and Dortmund and is believed to have been impressed by what he saw."
