Everton are hopeful of signing Jack Grealish on a "bargain deal" from Manchester City, while midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been given a fresh chance to salvage his career. Elsewhere, Arsenal could return to the transfer market in January in order to make loan signings to cover for injuries, and Jose Mourinho is believed to have been paid a huge amount in compensation by Fenerbahce.

Everton are hopeful they can sign Jack Grealish on a "bargain deal" at the end of the season, reports The Telegraph.
Grealish has been awarded the Premier League player of the month for August after four assists in his two league starts.
It marks a blistering start to his Everton career after joining on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
"Everton’s deal with City included a £50m option to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2026," writes the outlet.
"That fee, however, is not fixed and is more a consequence of accounting than a set price. With two years remaining on Grealish’s City contract, he was valued as a £50m asset during the last transfer window. That valuation inevitably decreases as by next summer Grealish will have just one year on his City contract.
"There is also his salary to consider, which is understood to be in the region of £12m a year. Everton are unlikely to be able to afford any fee for Grealish if they commit to pay such wages, meaning a free transfer is the most realistic solution if he is to stay at Hill Dickinson Stadium long-term.
"That would be a matter of negotiation in the event of the club and player seeking to prolong their relationship, and will depend on the level of interest from elsewhere as City are sure to go into the 2026 transfer window seeking a fee for the player."
Arsenal may make loan moves
The Daily Star believes that Arsenal could be tempted back into the market in the January transfer window.
Injuries to Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba mean that Arsenal may now look to make loan signings.
The paper explains: "The Gunners splurged heavily during the summer transfer window, shelling out more than £250 million on major acquisitions including Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke.
"Whilst Arteta will be reasonably satisfied with how his squad has taken shape following the summer activity, he may well fancy bringing in a couple more faces come January to keep his team functioning smoothly.
"Last season, the Gunners were hammered by a fitness nightmare after Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were both sidelined for the campaign, whilst Bukayo Saka was also out for an extended spell with a hamstring injury.
"We've already witnessed several fitness concerns within the Arsenal squad this term after Saka and Havertz suffered fresh setbacks, whilst William Saliba is also anticipated to remain unavailable for some time yet.
"This could prompt Arteta to dip into the transfer market come January to secure temporary signings."
Phillips may prolong City stay
After spending years on the sidelines or out on loan at Manchester City, Kalvin Phillips may now earn a stay.
The 29-year-old midfielder is in the City squad again after failing to find a new club in the summer.
The Telegraph reports: "Kalvin Phillips is set to be named in Manchester City’s 25-man Premier League squad for this season – and given a chance to resurrect his career at the Etihad Stadium.
"The England midfielder, 29, was loaned out to Ipswich Town last season, and West Ham the campaign before that, but returned this summer and has been working on his fitness ahead of the new campaign.
"While he has not played for City since 2023 in the Club World Cup, he could be given a chance in match-day squads this season under Pep Guardiola.
"At Ipswich he played more games, featuring in half their Premier League matches in total, but returned to City with the expectation of being loaned out again.
"Guardiola had suggested at the end of last season that he wanted a smaller squad, although Phillips was also working his way back to maximum fitness as clubs looked at loan options for this season."
Mourinho earns huge Fenerbahce payoff
Jose Mourinho has reportedly earned himself a significant severance payment after leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce.
After being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, Fener decided to pay up the £7.7m in compensation required to replace him.
The Daily Mail states: "The Portuguese boss was relieved of his duties by the Turkish giants last Friday, barely a year after taking charge in Istanbul.
"Defeat by Benfica in midweek, which ended Fenerbahce's hopes of reaching the Champions League group stage, proved the final straw for the 61-year-old.
"Mourinho still had a year left on his contract before it was terminated, meaning he is entitled to a hefty compensation package.
"According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Mourinho will pocket £7.7 million in severance – taking his total earnings from sackings alone to around a staggering £89m across his career."
