Manchester United linked with late Adrien Rabiot and Mario Hermoso free transfer swoops - Paper Round

Manchester United could still pull off late free transfer moves for Adrien Rabiot and Mario Hermoso, while Arsenal had to fend off a huge Saudi Arabian offer for Raheem Sterling before he moved from Chelsea. Elsewhere, Ipswich Town are closing in on Anderlecht teenager Tudor Mendel-Idowu, and Jadon Sancho could still return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

MAN UTD could make late deals

The Express believes that Manchester United could move for both Adrien Rabiot and Mario Hermoso, with the two free agents still on the market.
There is also room for exits as clubs circle for Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Antony.
The paper writes: “Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth admitted his phone was ringing off the hook on deadline day. Deals for Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Manuel Ugarte eventually got done, but there remains scope for further agreements to be struck.
“United were not able to shift all of the dead weight from their squad during England's summer transfer window, but the market is open until Monday evening in countries like Saudi Arabia and Portugal, leaving the possibility of more exits on the table.
“Victor Lindelof has dropped miles down Erik ten Hag's centre-back pecking order following the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. The Swede was recently linked with a host of European clubs and, crucially for United, the Saudi Pro League.
“Rabiot, who left Juventus at the end of June, has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with well-publicised talks taking place in 2022. Though United seem to be all set for midfielders, the opportunity to sign one of their long-standing targets for free is still up for grabs.
“Mario Hermoso is also available following his departure from Atletico Madrid.”

Sterling turns down huge offer

Raheem Sterling turned down a massive offer to move to the Saudi Pro League, the Mirror reports.
The winger was offered wages of ÂŁ650,000 a week in order to make the change, but instead he chose Arsenal.
The paper explains: “Raheem Sterling rejected a stunning £650,000-a-week offer from Saudi Arabia to join Arsenal on loan from Chelsea.
“The incredible package for the England winger, 29, would have more than doubled his current £300,000-a-week salary. But Sterling held out for a move to Arsenal and placed helping The Gunners to become champions over cash. He also retains his own, long-term ambitions to make it back into the Three Lions fold for the 2026 World Cup.
“Sterling’s lawyers and representatives thrashed out the dramatic late loan move across the capital on Friday night. He now becomes a key member of the Mikel Arteta squad expected to challenge yet again for the Premier League title.
“Mirror Football can now reveal he rejected the Saudi interest two days before talks had even been opened between Chelsea and Arsenal. Events began to escalate at the start of last week - 10 days after new Blues boss Enzo Maresca had made it clear, publicly and privately, that Sterling would never play for the club again.”

Wonderkid set for Premier League comeback

Anderlecht teenager Tudor Mendel-Idowu is set to return to the Premier League.
The Sun believes the 19-year-old will be back with Ipswich Town, having previously been at Chelsea.
The paper reports: “Former Chelsea youngster Tudor Mendel-Idowu who is best-known for being one of the smartest people in England is set for a return to the Premier League.
“The midfielder, 19, has an incredibly impressive pedigree in academia having been made a King's Scholar at Eton College at the age of 13 after attending the prestigious boarding school Ludgrove School.
“A deal has been agreed for him to join Ipswich.
“He had already undergone a medical with the newly promoted Premier League club before the transfer window closed on Friday.”

Sancho detail emerges

Jadon Sancho’s move to Chelsea could be terminated, according to The Telegraph.
The winger might return to Old Trafford if Chelsea fall down the Premier League table at the end of the season.
The paper claims: “Jadon Sancho could return to Manchester United due to a bizarre clause included in his sensational loan switch to Chelsea.
“The forward sealed his Old Trafford departure in the final hours on deadline day after being left out of United's squad for their first two Premier League games.
“Sancho, 24, will join The Blues on a permanent basis next summer for a fee worth around £23 million, as revealed yesterday by Mail Sport.
“But this obligation will not apply should Enzo Maresca's side fail to finish in the top 14 of the top-flight at the end of the current campaign.”
