The Alexander Isak saga has found a breakthrough on transfer deadline day, as Liverpool have agreed to pay £125 million to sign the Sweden international from Newcastle United. Isak has yet to play for Newcastle this season as he sought a move away from St James' Park, and he now looks set to join Arne Slot's Premier League champions at the end of a huge summer spend at Anfield.

Liverpool have agreed a British record transfer fee of £125 million to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
The move ends a transfer saga which has seen Isak refuse to play for Newcastle this season, with The Magpies having rejected a previous £110m approach from Liverpool.
Isak is reportedly set to sign a six-year deal with Arne Slot's side.
The transfer - which will be the third most expensive in history - will take Liverpool's summer spending past £400m. They already broke their club transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz in a deal worth an initial £100m, as well as bringing in Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Giovanni Leoni.
Newcastle broke their club transfer record to sign striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last week in a deal worth £64m, while they are also thought to be pursuing Yoanne Wissa, who has released a statement claiming that Brentford have not fulfilled their promise of allowing him to leave the club this summer.
How Isak saga came to an end
Isak was Newcastle’s top scorer last season with 27 goals in 42 appearances and netted in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool to secure the club’s first domestic silverware in 70 years.
But the first talk of a potential departure emerged early in the summer when it was reported that he wanted to explore his options for a move away from Newcastle.
He missed the pre-season tour to Asia and then trained alone at former club Real Sociedad.
Liverpool, who had already signed Ekitike, saw a £110m offer for Isak rejected in early August.
Isak made his feelings known with a statement saying promises had been "broken" by the Newcastle hierarchy and that "change is in the best interests of everyone".
But as the transfer window neared an end it looked like a move might not materialise, especially if Newcastle were not able to sign a replacement.
Isak missed Newcastle’s opening three Premier League fixtures, including a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at St James' Park.
Newcastle fans made their feelings clear about Isak during the games, but manager Eddie Howe still said he wanted Isak to play for the club again and that players would "welcome the striker back".

However, the addition of Woltemade from Stuttgart seems to have helped pave the way for Isak’s move to Liverpool to be completed on deadline day.
Isak will be the most expensive signing in Premier League history ahead of Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea for £115m.
