Liverpool sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for British transfer record £125m fee in final hours of deadline day
Liverpool have made another blockbuster signing by bringing Alexander Isak to Anfield for £125 million from Newcastle United. The Swede's long stand-off with The Magpies finally came to an end after he had made it clear that he wanted to leave St James' Park. Only Mohamed Salah scored more Premier League goals than Isak last season and the pair will now join forces on Merseyside.

Liverpool have continued their remarkable summer transfer window by signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125 million late on deadline day.
The transfer takes Liverpool's summer spending past £400m and makes Isak the third-most expensive signing in history.
It ends a long-running saga that saw Isak push for a move away from Newcastle following three years at the club.
Speaking about his move to Anfield, Isak said: "I feel amazing.
"It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
"I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there."
"I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well.
"I want to win everything. Yeah, [as simple as that]."
The Sweden international was Newcastle’s top scorer last season with 27 goals in 42 appearances and netted in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool to secure the club’s first domestic silverware in 70 years.
But his hero status on Tyneside has been wrecked by the manner of his departure.
That has been reflected in Newcastle's announcement of Isak's departure - which does not thank the striker for his on-the-field achievements in recent seasons.
A short, 36-word statement said: "Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.
"The Sweden international joined The Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions."
It was reported early in the summer that Isak wanted to explore his options for a move away from Newcastle.
The striker then made his feelings known with a statement saying promises had been "broken" by the Newcastle hierarchy and that "change is in the best interests of everyone".
Newcastle fans made their feelings clear about Isak as he missed the first three games of the Premier League season.
Magpies manager Eddie Howe still said he wanted Isak to play for the club again and that players would "welcome the striker back".
But Isak has now secured the move that he desired to Liverpool.
He joins Liverpool ahead of the international break, and Isak was pictured at an airport after passing his medical at Liverpool ahead of linking up with the Sweden national team.
Upon his return to Merseyside, Isak could be in line for his Liverpool debut against Burnley in the Premier League on September 14.
Following the trip to Turf Moor, Liverpool get their UEFA Champions League campaign up and running at home to Atletico Madrid on September 17.
